Phnom Penh - The joint UN-Cambodian court set up to try former Khmer Rouge leaders will announce its decision on whether to grant bail to the sister-in-law of the movement's late leader Pol Pot this week, it said in a press release Sunday. The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia said it would hold a morning session on Wednesday to announce its decision on Ieng Thirith's appeal against pretrial detention heard on May 21.
She is charged with crimes against humanity.
Prosecutors allege her position in the movement and her marriage to Khmer Rouge foreign minister Ieng Sary made it impossible for her not to be aware of the murder, torture, starvation and disease that claimed up to 2 million lives during their 1975-79 reign.
Thirith has denied the charges and appealed for pretrial release for health reasons.
Thirith, her husband, former head of state Khieu Samphan, chief ideologue Nuon Chea and director of the Toul Sleng torture centre Kaing Guek Eav, aka Duch, are currently in detention awaiting trial.
The first hearings are expected later this year. The movement's top leader, Pol Pot, died in 1998.

Please pursuit the trial for cambodian victims. they long to see if these are real perpetrators or being framed for atrocity.
I believe there are many real killers out there hiding. It was a systematic killing, where plans stage by stage achived. Phases of kiling:
1-1975-76 fuelled by revenge and re eduation process where killing took place at each region.
2-1976 -77 killing of political faction crisises, between nationalist claimed socialist and other two factions Chinese backbone and Pro Indochinese communist backed by Vietnam.
3-1977-78 claimed cultural revolution where plan killing of purging remained intellectuals and factional enemies.
4-1978-79 where big cleansing of khmer revolutionists of all levels.
Staged by Vietnam as victory, and continued to eliminate all rival factions, then
5-K 5 plan was implemented to eliminate those in youths considered as remained strength for being killed in mine fields of past and ongoing.
Gentlemen of ECCC, as victims we do not wish you to eliminate these considered perpetrators but seek to find those systematic real killers.
Thank you for your assistances.
