Phnom Penh - Cambodia's ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has ordered the leader of its coalition partner, the royalist Funcinpec Party, to stand down, but will retain the coalition structure, government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said Wednesday. He said the CPP would form a coalition after Sunday's landslide victory, which sees the CPP take at least 90 of 123 seats - 64 more than it's nearest rival, the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP).
Funcinpec plummeted from 26 seats to just two on latest preliminary estimates, but despite the CPP dominance, axing a coalition which has existed since the first democratic elections in 1993 would potentially cause deep political instability.
"Opposition figures who want to join the government have to do so Wednesday or lose out, and we know many do," Kanharith said. "The CPP also orders that current Funcinpec leader Keo Puth Rasmei and his wife Princess Arun Rasmei resign and Nhiek Bun Chhay take over."
Bun Chhay, an army general with the reputation of being a military bulldog, a love of former king Norodom Sihanouk but no royal blood, will be the first non-royal leader of Funcinpec.
After UN-organized elections in 1993, current Prime Minister Hun Sen forced the victorious Funcinpec into forming a coalition with him, but the UN then dictated that half the police force and army should be Funcinpec, as well as numerous government positions.
The CPP retains that coalition to avoid instability, and because it says it is incompatible with the opposition SRP, which snared at least 26 seats at Sunday's polls and is the second most popular party in the country. Funcinpec was expected to comply.

But, it's good though. There is no more headach. Prah Brothian can be a full time professor and have plenty of time enjoying with his new wife.

-Show your good intention and educate poeple in decent and effective methods of leading and having more quality living rather than just exploiting from the suffering of the people. "Do not just sit and exploit from the situations". "You don't just wait for the chance, rather go after it".

Perhaps you need to form a new military faction and other rival groups in an effort to topple the ruling party in the near future.
Just before the elections Hun Sen made soundings that he wanted the royal family members out of politics.
Now that CPP has won with so many seats and FUNCINPEC has so little, he has the upper hand to dictate to his potential coalition partner how they should run themselves i.e. the Royals are out, he will not deal with them.
He also said before the elections that he would not need FUNCINPEC as a coalition partner, so confident he was that CPP would win so many seats.
So why does Kanharith make this statement now? Because it is an opportunity to get the Royals out of politics, co-opting FUNCINPEC, and giving the appearance internationally that Cambodia has a technically coalition democracy, lending creedance to Hun Sens rule.
Hun Sen is a clever man, and an opportunist, and that is why he still has the power. It will take an cleverer man and an opportunist to get him out.
Sam Rainsy may be a good man, a better man for the Cambodian people from a moral and ethical standpoint, but he's just not on the ball, smart enough to outwit Hun Sen. Until someone is smart enough to knock him off his high and gilded perch, he WILL most likely rule until he is 90 years old.
And thats really sad, because it will only be until after he is dead that the cambodian people will realise that he has sold every piece of the country from under them
