Assessment by an International Observer: Cambodia'S Elections are neither free Nor fair

August 23, 2008

ASSESSMENT BY AN INTERNATIONAL OBSERVER:
CAMBODIA'S ELECTIONS ARE NEITHER FREE NOR FAIR

No competent election observer could possibly write a report that did not note how the voting registration process pre-determined and warped the outcome of Cambodia's July 27, 2008 national election. I would add that this type of rigging process was engineered and configured by both the NEC as well as international organizations that became complicit, either knowingly or unwittingly, in a process that would ensure that opposition voters would face a range of procedural as well as behavioral obstacles. Two years ago a letter I wrote to The Cambodia Daily fired one of the first warning shots about the dangers of creating permanently disenfranchised voters (*).

Elections are not just about vote counting but are a fundamental chance for citizens to engage in a open dialogue with those who make decisions that effect the health and direction of the state.

The July 2008 General Election could not be judged as credible, free or fair.

Gentlemen

Under the kingdom of cambodia, all these constraints should not be left to SRP to fight for in order to serve cambodians. Please do not leave the king out of the map, otherwise the king will never know the real pain that cambodians are going through.

The 2008 ellection in Cambodia is neither free nor fair assessed a stupid foreign observer.

However, delegation from EU and Japan welcomed the ellection result. Significantly, who are able to assess the ellection process better than the US Ambassador who lived and worked in Cambodia for the last three years?
He reported to his govt in Washinton that the July ellection in Cambodia was another improvement of democratic process in Cambodia and welcomed the result of the ellection, and of course he called on opposition alliance to accept the result and prepare to work for sake of Cambodian nation....

I think Sam Rainsy and Kim Sokha should commit suicide rather than complain on fraud ellection as the international community fed up with this kind of childish politics.
This kind of complain is just a kind of crying wolf to destabilize the country...
International community wants Cambodian political parties to recognise and accept the fact that International community could do nothing with such complaints...

If don't beleive me, we will see the SRP and HRP will go to first session of Assembly meeting on 24 September...I can bet 1000 to 1...

You call the act of SRP's complaining "destablizing the country"??????? And how about before the election CPP has ultimate control over the media?? and not to mention CPP used the state properties to campaign; also the NEC known as the political puppet of CPP deleted the voters'names and etc. Now I am sure you bastard retarded writers will bark the same bullshits-like dogs eating the yummy shit that irregularities are the minor problems in every election!!!!!! You called all these happenings "irregularities" especially deleting about a million voters'names "the minor problem"???

I suggest why don't you corrupted-system-born retarded writers like all of you just "eat shit in any hidden corners and don't ever write more useless dummy bullshits anymore!!!!!!!"

Cambodia's temple wall

Phnom Penh - Cambodia plans to build a Berlin-style wall to shut off Thailand and develop tourist facilities around the still disputed Preah Vihear temple, a senior official said on Sunday.

The Cambodian government will build a series of walls at "complicated border areas," while still calling for talks to mark and properly demarcate the frontier, Khieu Kanharith, Information Minister and government spokesman, told reporters at a press conference.

Both sides should start to discuss to plant border markers from undisputed border areas to the complicated border areas and some complicated border areas will be built with border markers or concrete walls, Khieu Kanharith said

Cambodia will allow private companies to invest at least $2 million dollars at the Preah Vihear Temple to set up cable cars for tourists, he said, adding that the government is also trying to build a road to the temple.

The Preah Vihear border gate to Thailand will be open when the situation there is stable, he said, adding that foreign tourists could visit the temple from the Cambodian side.

At the moment, authorities have closed the temple grounds to visitors. For decades, the only way to get to Preah Vihear was through Thailand, because the temple is situated atop a sharp cliff on the Cambodian side.

Cambodia and Thailand share a border of over 800km with only 73 demarcation markers, the Cambodian official said on Sunday.

At a meeting on Aug 18-19, Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers agreed to arrange a second-phase troop redeployment at the disputed border area near the temple.

They agreed to a meeting of the Cambodian Temporary Coordinating Task Force and the Thai Regional Border Committee on Aug 29 in Cambodia to discuss the troop redeployment.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to recommend to their governments that the next meeting of legal experts and the Thai-Cambodian Joint Border Committee be convened in early October, to discuss the issues related to border survey and demarcation of the relevant frontier sectors.

On July 15, Thai troops went into the border area to fetch three trespassers who had intended to claim Thai sovereignty over the Preah Vihear Temple. The incident triggered a military standoff, as troop strength on each side grew to more than 1,000 soldiers.

In 1962, the International Court of Justice (World Court) decided that the 11-century temple belongs to Cambodia. (Agency reports)

For 8:11 PM and 10:52 PM.

If your party, SRP and all your clans have seen so many unfair process and CPP's dominance in the ellection including the pre-assessment of the US Ambassador in PP and many international analysts that CPP would win the July ellection, why didn't you stay out or boycott the ellection...?

Because you so beleived that your clans would win, but when lost, you all are "LUM PA" and calld for new ellection...

If you still so believe that UN can help your clans for reelction, don't go to the first session of the Asembly in Sept 24...

Would you like to bet, 1 to 1 million? We are sure, Rainsy and your clans will go to join the parliament as there's no international support for such political hypocrites...

5:48 AM...Since the causes of social problems exist on many levels, predicting the future may best be left to crystal-gazers, in my opinion, but we can always take hints from present lives of Cambodia today because they contain many ideas that may be influential for Cambodia fate years to come. In fact, this is not the first time for Cambodia where the nation has produced dramatic economic inequalities. Unless you are ignored to see them.

What are those very wealthy people like?
In term of the everyday world of work vs. values of democracy.

How general assumption of self-interest that currently leads to fear in the workplace?
Such as, Freedom, the illusion of freedom, Coercion, Exploitation, Corporations, the corrupt elites, and the economic justification for the damage, which they cause tear and blood to our society and the country.

Presently, we are striving to emerge from an era with no clear ideology, but drifting back toward an era in which materialism and corrupt business has expanded powerfully and internally and out of the vacuum of the two old discredited ideologies, laissez-faire and Social Darwinism that are appearing to be rising again at this moment in modern guise.

The CPP ideologies are still flawed; the first vigorously and outright hypocrisy to promote so called freedom and ignores justice and is indifferent toward democracy.

The second is supported by science so they claimed, is disinterested in humane values but accommodates exploitation as part of the nature of things.

Should we Khmer search for a modern economic theory that can offer us a closer look to the reality of lives?

Is this a society of individuals Khmer rationally are maximizing our happiness?

Please, at least, give our views among the disadvantaged, and its political economy of hope and fear.

Stupid!
Commiting suicide is better to join the parliament with CPP...
Please boss, don't go to first session... We are Khmer overseas will support you forever as long as you stand firm to stay out of the parliament...
If you join parliament, we Khmer overseas will give no financial supports for SRP any more...

Please boss, don't do that.

Bullshit, 9:43. There is no flaw in CPP. They had served the wills of the majority and they will continue to do that, and that is more democracy than most countries on this planet, and consequently, the majority will continued to elect the CPP to rule forever, as simple as that.
