Cambodia plants 600 trees to welcome Olympic Games in Beijing

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Banteay Meanchey provincial authority Friday planted 600 trees in its capital town to welcome the opening of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Khmer-language newspaper the Kampuchea Thmey said Saturday.

"Eight o'clock in the evening, Aug. 8, 2008, is a luck time for us and means good fortune in Feng-shui theory. Therefore, we are planting 600 trees and also organize football tournament to welcome the Olympic Games to open in China and memorize the friendship between Cambodian and China, too," provincial governor Ong Eoeurn was quoted as saying.

This sports gala was very important for the diplomatic relationships between the two countries, which would make the bilateral ties closer, as Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni attended the opening ceremony of the games, he said.

"It is a great day for our best friend China to organize the event," he added.

The trees planted Friday are usually called "royal plant" or "king tree" in Cambodia. They are expected to blossom during the Khmer New Year in mid-April.

Led by Tourism Minister and National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) president Thong Khon, the Cambodian Olympic delegation will join swimming and tracking matches at the games in Beijing.

It is funny. Just plant the trees in your country, why it is meaning that welcoming or strengthen your relationship? Just tell that it is in the same day. Any way i understand what you mean and i still support. From your good friend.

6:48, no comment, but Hahhah. ahaha. Khmer in Cambodia are typically low self-esteemed people. They think that the Chinese are the divine masters who can magically transform their pathetic existence into a wishful images they have of themselves in their little heads. Hahaha. Simply pathetic. Even that Dr. Hay does not even give advice at all, and yet he is from the outside looking in at his own people still trapped in the well.

Dumb ass governor. Why don't they keep planting trees, everywhere. We need trees, but we don't need to plant them for China's relationshit.

I was watching Olympic opening on TV and it looked wonderful. I keep watching the marching procession if I could see Cambodian team, but I failed to see them. I just want to see how look were while being sent by the landslide-elected PM.

And talking about planting 600 trees to welcome Olympic games, I found it ridiculous. What is it trees to do with Olympic games? Why didn't they plant 600,000 trees to replace just 1/3 of them that have been cut by the Hun Xen officers and crooks?

Thank you for shedding the light about the friendship between the two nations.

I now clearly understand!

Of course, it is a symbolic gesture to signal to the Chinese that, yes, Cambodia be elated and enthralled to become the next Chinese province, and we'll plant 1.3 billion trees when we settled our territorial spat with our friendly neighbor Thailand.

However, please do us a favor before Cambodia becoming the next Chinese province: please nuke the Siam first, and then the Chinese will be friends forever as Cambodia is part of Chinese province.

Now, let's get going and plant those 1.3 billion trees.

It is a good move for minimum as 600 trees planted. NO LAND and NO supporting environment, our children will die.

Tree is the FILTER of our 4 basic needs, WATER, EARTH, FIRE and AIR, to keep human alive.

Your $ 100 notes mean nothing when you struggle to live. May be $100 can be put into planting more trees for your children.
