Local agencies called for international intervention in the ongoing Preah Vihear crisis Friday, while requesting the government take emergency measures to secure other Cambodian temples all along the Thai border.
"We call on the international community, especially Asean and the United Nations, to continue to pay attention [to the issue] and take action to secure the area, in case the future meeting will not have a smooth result," said Sok Samoeun, director of the Cambodian Defenders Project.
Foreign Minister Hor Namhong is expected to fly to Thailand to meet his counterpart Aug. 18 in an effort to resolve the crisis, which includes the build-up of thousands of armed troops, artillery and armor.
The Coalition of Cambodia Apparel Workers of Democratic Union, or CCAWDU, and two other local groups, including the Cambodian Women's Crisis Center and the rights group Adhoc, joined in the appeal.
"We think that if Thailand prolongs the issue, we propose to the Cambodian government to submit the file to the UN in order to end it very quickly," said Ath Thun, director of CCAWDU. "Legally we have the support of the law."
Chan Saveth, an Adhoc investigator, emphasized that if the UN agrees to resolve the problem, it will support Cambodia, "because we don't have many resources to work with."
Around 30 NGOs sent a letter to the UN in July, calling for the creation of a zone around Preah Vihear temple that would prohibit armed soldiers; they also requested the deployment of peacekeepers.
Cambodian military officials said Friday the border situation remained stable, with no withdrawal of troops from either side near Preah Vihear temple.
Cambodian media have reported that some troops have backed out of Ta Moan temple, in Oddar Meanchey province, though some remain. Cambodian patrols along the border have been followed by Thai forces, according to media reports.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said the situation had improved and the government was now waiting for continued negotiations.
"We think that the bilateral [talks] are important now, and to go forward to the UN would be the last choice," Khieu Kanharith said.
Cambodia halted a request for intervention from the UN Security Council last month, pending bilateral talks.

Untfortunatelly for Khmer that we are the victim time again of Thai army. It has been for far too long Thai army stay in Khmer land. The world should step in to resolve this conflict. Do not wait untill the war break out, body start falling, then call for emergency meeting. And that it is seem to be pattern, nobody die nobody pay attention to issue.
Indeed I agree Khmer government must take ths whole border issue to UN, and reguest for UN arm force along Khmer and Thai border at the mean time while border demarcation is taken place. First of all, whatever bilateral talk come up with, Thai will violate later anyway-Thai agreement worstless, Thai words mean nothing.
Don't worry 5:20am & 5:19am. Just let CPP do their job because they used to do with Youn.

PAD fooling the people
The line was drawn by the French in 1904, the International Court of Justice ruled on it in 1962,
“and the new line agreed by the Thai and Cambodian government actually brings more land into Thailand than the old map If the Cambodian government is happy to concede some land to the Thais while retaining the temple that is, and has always been, on Cambodian, soil, then it is a win for the Thai government.”
I cannot believe the lunatics at the PAD have actually got the Thai people and the Puea Pandin party fooled over the Preah Vihear temple.

Good Cambodian, let push your PM to be fast to solve the disput with Thai and anounce it as a safety place after the troops from both side withdrawing in the public, so that you can attract more tourists into your country. I will bring my friends with me to see your new world heritage temple. We want to see it as soon as can. Don't let them long occupying in your soil, it is not good image to the world. REMEMBER: DON'T SAY ANY THING TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ON THE LINE WITH YOUR LEADER, COS IT IS NOT GOOD TO HEAR ESP. WHEN YOU TRY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR NEIGHTBOR.

Take to the UN, and once all the border line are drawn, station our troop there. Never let Thai army sneak to Khmer land again, ever. Thief alway thief, never change, unless earth open up and swallow them all, and that would be bad for Hell too because this Thai wicked creature would steal Hell land as well once they are there.
Why quick Border dispute solution is needed ?? we need to delay and delay until Khmer people feel boring & forget about it and we will share some lands/sea territoriry to our close brother thai ......as we used to make with
