Cambodia accuses Thailand of occupying its land through de-mining operation

PHNOM PENH - The Cambodian government Thursday issued a statement, accusing Thailand of occupying its territory by sending troops in the border area in the name "de-mining activity."

Thursday's statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that "the unilateral de-mining activity by Thai soldiers in Cambodia's territory flagrantly contravenes the agreement made by both sides in the past."

Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 14 said Thailand sent troops in the border area to undertake "de-mining efforts in the area adjacent to the Preah Vihear Temple" and "investigations to verify whether the landmines in the area are old ones or recently deployed."

The Cambodian statement quoted three documents signed by both sides to deny the legitimacy of Thailand's de-mining and investigating operations.

By the "de-mining activity, Thai forces were in effect occupying the areas which are clearly situated within Cambodia's territory as demarcated by the relevant maps repeatedly endorsed by the two countries and recognized by the International Court of Justice as the basis for its judgment concerning the Preah Vihear Temple in 1962," it said.

Cambodia strongly reaffirms the fact that landmines in this border area are remnants of almost three decades of war, it said.

"It is quite apparent that Thai soldiers must have stepped on one of those mine after having trespassed into this mine-infested area near the border," it added.

The Cambodian and Thai militaries just agreed Thursday afternoon in Thailand to hold joint patrols to reduce tension at the disputed border area near the temple, where a gun battle between the two sides a day earlier left two Cambodian soldiers dead.

Hun Sen has been in power for almost 30 years and look at his defend mechanism. Have nonething to protect his own people and the country. What have he been doing for those years? He might think when he needs help. he will go to Hanoi to ask for help and signs more land to Hanoi. No fighter planes, no battle tank, no big artillery, and no navy ship; only AK-47 and Granade launcher. How can he declare war with Thai?

By the way if he send troops to the East as he sents to the West, we won't lost a lot of land to Hanoi, but he did the opposite way. he is scare of Hanoi and don't say anything to Hanoi whatever Hanoi wants to do. He fucks Hanoi pussies every night. Not just him doing the fucking, but his sub-bordinates too. That's why he doesn't care about Hanoi encroach Khmer land.

Any de-mining operation must be based on international map! Unless the Thai aggressor want another round of chicken fight! There is no point to afraid the Thai because they are all just a fucken piece of meat!

Foreign Ministry to forward landmine case to UN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is gathering more information about the PMN2 landmine that two Thai troops stepped on at the disputed Thai-Cambodian border on October 3 before forwarding it to the United Nations (UN) for inspection under the Ottawa Convention.

Thailand believed that the Russian-made landmine belonged to Cambodia and was recently planted in the Thai territory.

The PMN2 landmine case would not exacerbate the border tension between the two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat reiterated.

Thailand's more than 300,000-strong military uses modern American equipment and dwarfs Cambodia's 125,000 less well-equipped troops. Cambodian forces however are well versed in guerrilla warfare after fighting an intense civil war against the communist Khmer Rouge.

Khmer have more experiences and tatics in war then Thailand.

They are really vicious.

Khmer Pride,

The bias media can say anything they want to boost other side morale. The first to underestimate your enemies is the first dead!

Never trust any Thai. They have twisted mind, twisted tongues.

Negotiation is meaningless. They even sent their army to Khmer land while negotiation taking place, sic. There should not be a negotiation in the first place. Negotiation to do what? Yes, it would gain for Thai by sending their army to Khmer land and call for negotiation, but for Khmer to gain What?

UN and International Court of Justice. Just formelly file with them, they have to do it, especially now because blood already spilled.

The world is so bias against Khmer. When the Khmer Rouge (is it, or Vietnames agent with long planning, intergrated, disguided as Khmer) murdered Khmer, all the superpower did was to monitor the killing, that was just sick. And now, Thai invade Khmer, murdered Khmer and these group of "International" can do is watching, and once in a while they as Khmer to restraint! Ask what now? Restraint? Khmer? We are being killed! We are being overrun in our own land! Ask Thai to restraint not open fire on us, and to move out of Khmer land.

No need Thai to clear landmine. Our we can use their help to demine in other areas such as in Kompongtom, kompong cham, and they have to be unarm, and under Khmer supervision at all the time, of-course. That kind of help would be welcome. Not in the borders, heavilly armed, and stealthy without let us know.

2:51 is on drug. The monkeys climbed up the 600 meters cliff to steal the temple from the Khmer community in Thailand, and he expected them to greet the greedy monkey to red carpet treatment and bouquet of flowers ...

2:38,
What you said is true. The Cambodian Government have attempt at all cost to reached out to the outside world for help in resolving this issues, but they insist that we should work it out amongst ourselves.
Well, we did just that! We have taken appropriate steps and exhaust every avenue. And then the recent ultimatum.
I say go ahead Mr. HS, talk is cheap.... let's hit 'em.
We've warned them one too many times,.....destroyed them!
