Phnom Penh - Cambodia Tuesday urged developed nations to focus on poverty alleviation in less developed economies as part of a strategy to bolster the global economy.
In a speech to the annual International Monetary Fund and the World Bank meetings in Washington dated Monday and received Tuesday, Cambodia's IMF chair Chea Chanto and World Bank chair Aun Porn Moniroth warned that forgetting less developed nations during the financial crisis would have a long-term impact on the future of the global economy.
The statement said globalisation meant countries like Cambodia were neither immune nor insignificant in the current crisis.
"The task of poverty alleviation ... cannot afford delays or postponement ... if anything it needs much faster acceleration and concerted action," the statement said.
"Cambodia is getting fast integrated into the global economy. Because we are less developed we have so far been only bruised by the global events (but) we already feel the pains of high inflation, slowing economy and reducing exports."
Cambodia also called for developed nations to "write off, or provide swap arrangements in regard to past outstanding debts" and "open up their markets by reducing tariffs and local subsidies for products we can best supply at a lower cost."

Hun Sen want to beg for more money from the world rich community to help him continue his corrupt government and attact on U.N representative. What he mean is "Ha

Over 23 years Cambodia ruled by ex-Khmer rouge (CPP)
Cambodia today stills the poorest country in South East
Asia.
It doesn’t mater how much the world rich community
trying to help Cambodia.
Because all those money always go in to the government (CPP)
official pockets.
Your fucking thai King is stupid and your queen is a whore.
Also your mother is a whore.
Only one solution to help Cambodia out from
poverty is: remove government (CPP) out
from the power.
And do the motherfucker CPP know that they need to help poor Cambodian too????
Do ma ah Vietnamese motherfucker slave!!
Your fucking thai King is stupid and your queen is a whore.
Also your mother is a whore.
Hun Sen go to fuck ya self ,or learn how to make your own living, you have two hand and we are not the octopus
Your fucking thai King is stupid and your queen is a whore.
Also your mother is a whore.
Cambodia government (CPP) is the most
Corruption government in South East Asia.
Hun Sen sold all Cambodia Islands to foreign investors,
Lands grabbing, cutting forest, stole state asset,
Some government official related to smugglings and drugs.
Cambodian poverty is men made poverty created by land grabbed and corruption from CPP members. If these idiots leave khmer alone, khmers will be rich and prosper. We have to ask all countries around the world to ban all their banks to accept deposits moneys from people of foreign citizen. That exercise is to cut down all corrupted leaders to deposit their moneys in foreign countries. Areak Prey
Cambodian leadership should have done more to alleviate poverty before calling upon rich nations to help poor countries such as Cambodia.
Prof.Gaffar Peang-Meth has quoted in his recent article an American observer as saying that every 10th vehicle on the road in Cambodia is a "Lexus SUV"(Principles, integrity are society's guides, PACIFIC DAILY NEWS
October 15, 2008). He has also cited that 35 per cent of the population are lining under the poverty line of 50 US$cents a day. This is stark evidence that Cambodian leadership has not done enough to reduce poverty in Cambodia.
Cambodian leadership are just asking developed nations to tax the poor in their country to give to the rich in poor countries.
LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong
I am totally agreed with your last sentence, LAO MONG HAY, " Cambodian leadership are just asking developed nations to tax the poor in their country to give to the rich in poor countries". Hun Sen is begging to make his personal wealth.
