Alexander TrofimovCambodian court reduces Russian pedophile's sentence
PHNOM PENH, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Phnom Penh Appeal Court has upheld a child sex abuse conviction against Russian businessman Alexander Trofimov, but reduced his prison sentence from 13 to 6 years, state media said Friday.
The municipal court found Trofimov, 41-year-old executive director of the Koh Puos Investment group, guilty of debauchery in March for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.
The Appeal Court heard his case in absentia on Oct. 2 and ruled Thursday that under the country's new anti-human trafficking law, he should receive a lighter sentence, Appeal Court Judge Samreth Sophal was quoted by English-Khmer language newspaper the Cambodia Daily as saying.
"The new law's punishment is lighter than the old one," he said.
Trifimov is currently being held in pre-trial detention at Sihanoukville municipal prison as he is scheduled to be tried Monday for allegedly sexually abusing 18 other girls.
The businessman once established his company to develop an isolated island in Sihanoukville into a comprehensive resort.

when Trofimov starts to serve his time you ask the judge which prison is he going to and go to check to see if he's physically there or some where else in the hotel with other girls......pathetic.....the rich foreigners know that they can do anything in cambodia and their $$$ will buy them out of any situation they face.....the court case is just a farcade for the public to see.
only foreigners go to jail for this, while these Cambodia are free to roam the streets. There are a bunch of Cambodian who go and sleep with girls 15 and 16 years old and some even younger. Others married them. But the govt. don't do shit to them. Cambodia is country where a 50 year old can marry a 15 year old girl and no one frowns upon him cuz he has "money." They think she's lucky cuz now, she and her poor family can have a better life. It's really sick, but that's the truth of it.
And then u hear stories of these foreigners did this or that and was sentenced to jail or pay a large fee. But what happens to the majority of the local pedophiles,where most of them are these top officials? Nothing right? Well, like i said..."money is everything." U can shut everybody's mouth with it. The police turn a blind eye on u when u have the money.
