Thai Rangers wounded by landmines near Cambodian frontier

SI SA KET, Oct 6 (TNA) - Two Thai Rangers lost their legs as they stepped on landmines while patrolling along the Thai-Cambodia border near the disputed Preah Vihear temple in Sri Sa ket province Monday.

The incident took place just three days after soldiers from both countries were wounded in a brief exchange of gunfire near the disputed area.

The explosion tore off both legs of 42-year-old Ranger Somboon Kingwichit who stepped on a landmine, while Ranger Boonsit Sanaeha, 46, rushing to the scene to help his colleague, lost his left leg as the second mine was triggered.

Other Rangers cleared an area for an emergency army helicopter landing zone and the injured were transferred to a hospital in nearby Ubon Ratchathani province. Both soldiers are in critical condition.

Tensions between the two neighbours escalated in July after Preah Vihear temple, which belongs to Cambodia, was awarded world heritage status by the United Nations Education ,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Some Thai nationalists protested at the Thai-Cambodian border.

The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, but the surrounding land remains in dispute.

The trouble maker got what it deserves. Why can't we live peacefully along side? There are only two ways: the easy way or the hard way? chose one...

Khmer Rouge planted landmines during the war with Hun Sen government back in 80', therefore, those Thai Rangers were on Khmer soil. Again, and again they keep violating Khmer sovereignty.ParaChai Siames. Down with the Thai.

Cause they kept on violating Khmer's soil. If they don't step their feet in Khmer's land that won't happen.

So now everyone know that on Khmer's soil.

These dumb ass are high ranking officer (when you're 42 and 46 year old).

If you step on mines that means you're on Khmer soil.

If you want your legs back you have to come and get it. Hope fully that you will not lose another leg, in the process.

That would be funny.
LOL.

Yeah, yeah, poor thai soldiers. I don't think they wanted to station there. They were there with fear. They know that is ashame to invade khmer land this way. They know very well that it is khmer territory and of course full of mines. So, it proves that they stepped into khmer soils that's why they got their legs chopped off by mine explosion. I feel pity on you. Back off from khmer soil, other more consequences will follow you. Khmer ancestors would not tolerate your act of agression. It is not your time now, it is khmer time to protect our territory left after you stole big pieces from us hundred years ago. Back off! Withdraw all your troops from khmer soils with no condition.
