Cambodia's economic police is corrupt and does not serve the people: It’s not a NGO claim, it’s an accusation made by CPP Sar Kheng

The economic police of the ministry of Interior (MoI) came under scathing criticism for being an entity that does not serve the people, and also of being involved in corruption.

In a speech given during the promotion of high-ranking national police officials in the afternoon of 21 November at the MoI, Sar Kheng, the vice-PM and minister of Interior, directly criticized and scolded leaders of the economic police for not fulfilling their duty to serve the nation and the people, to the contrary, this police department is involved in corruption by sending its forces to seek benefits and fulfill their personal interest only.

Sar Kheng said: “So, I am asking: How much did our economic police participated in the fight against economic offense? None! I never received any report from the economic police, all that I received were complaints brought up against them. There were no reports showing the achievements of the economic police.”

At the same time, Sar Kheng told Neth Savoeun, who was just promoted to a four-gold-star general and national police commissioner to replace Hok Lundy, to review this issue and eliminate such case.

Sar Kheng added: “Besides this (economic police) only spread out their forces to seek corruption money. Now, I am appealing to the people who knew about this problem, we have received this information, if this information is true, we will resolve it. This must stop from now on, any [economic police] forces that were spread out, they must all be called back in. The national police commissioner takes it as his duty to issue this motto: ‘They [economic police] have no rights to spread out their forces to undertake such action.’”

General Run Rathveasna, the director of the economic police, could not be reached this afternoon to obtain clarification on this issue.

During the occasion of his promotion, Neth Savoeun made the following pledge: “In front of your excellencies, Lok Chumteav, ladies and gentlemen, and the spirit of General Hok Lundy, I am pledging that, truthfully, I will made all kind of sacrifices for the nation, the religion and the king, I will respect the constitution, I will respect and apply the law to defend the truth, justice and I will oppose all corruption. I will be always faithful in my mission to serve the nation, to preserve peace and the interest of the people and the Cambodian nation, and I will bring in progress to promote and defend the interest, honor and dignity of the national police.”

It should be noted that in the past, merchants and stall vendors have protested that various government economic departments, as well as the economic police have demanded that they pay bribes, this situation harasses them, and it greatly affects their trade.

They are all great comedians.
Paying lip service to good governance and anti corruption when in fact the country is a free for all grabbing paradise for the rich and powerful.

Good behavior but don't know their attitude (www.cambohistory.blogspot.com)

This is what I called, "Good Governance".

Praise for Deputy-Prime Minister Sar Kheng!
His public criticism of the economic police is probably an indication that this particular police force and perhaps all the police force is not under his direct control, which they should be.
If they were, he would have taken appropriate action against their bad performance already and wouldn't have made such public criticism.
It is hoped that he will have fuller and more direct authority over the new police chief regardless whether the latter is married to Prime Minister Hun Sen's niece. It is hoped too that this police chief will likewise have fuller and more direct authority over the economic police chief.
This is a simple element of (public) management: each employee (subordinate) has only one superior.

Yes Mr LAO but the question is whether Sar Kheng himself is more corrupted and violent than those he wants to control.

Neth Savoeun should do the job first then come tell the people, anyone can lies and pledge, haven we all heard it before....if only they have come clean in the first place than I wouldn't have to put up with this shit load....Anyway nice try but if do good that is fine by me so keep it that way...

Perhaps Sar Kheng right now has more than enough. Why didn't criticize the economic police a long time ago?

I personally have more trust in Mr. Sar Kheng than any other CPP clans. I believe he wants to clean up the corruption in the Police force, but as someone has mentioned earlier that he did not have the control over all the police forces. Hopefully, the new national Police's chief will work more cooperative with the ministry of interior which is under Mr. Sar Kheng. I also will vote for him to be our next Prime Minister because he seems to care more for Khmer citizen. Good Luck Mr. Sar Kheng and I can be your good adviser if you ever become the Prime Minister.

I praise you Mr. Sar Keng for speaking up for the interest of the nation. Cambodia need more people like you and encourage those in the government positions to join rank. It is now the right to bring interest for the country. Again Mr. Sar Keng, you are one outstanding leader from the Cpp.

For Mr. Neth Savoeun, now that you have sworn, it is also your chance to set yourself in the right path. We will judge you by your action.

The decent people shouldn't be fooled by Sar Kheng. He tries to make his voice heard because he foresees he might be able to take over the MP position from Hun Sen in the next election. Corruption of the economic police has been heard since day one of Hun Sen-Sar Kheng administration, and why the hell Sar Kheng just cried out? Don't forget that Hun Sen Sar Kheng are in the same boat rowing in harmony towards the same destination!

Sar Kheng, Sok Anh and Hor Namhong are from the same hole (Hanoi) and have the same goal, the fall of Cambodia. His eloquent talk does not impress me at all. The yuon is just changing tactic, try to be more transparent.

Don't be fooled by this recent criticism by Sar kheng. The head of Economy Police Department is the son in law of a long-time government contractor named Oknha.......(it's confidential). His name is Run Roth Veasna. This guy got his position because of his mother in law's generosity toward Sar Kheng and Hok Lundy in the past. He was a no-body before he got married to that Oknha's daughter. Anyway this recent remark was made directly toward Run Roth Veasna because Sar Kheng was displeased with his arrogance and how little tribute he has offerred him so far. All you idiots admiring Sar Kheng don't know the real deal. In terms of corruption he's no different from Hun Sen.

Sar Kheng is the major drug dealer in Cambodia. All those who praises him, please learn his background first.

It's very logical that if Sar Kheng were to be a good guy trying to reduce (not eliminate) corruption, he would have done that a long time ago.
Since I don't know much about his background, I partly agree with what 10:40PM has said.

correction: 10:40PM = 10:30PM

They all crooked! and greedy!

Correction : Neth Savoeun ,who was just promoted to a four - BLOOD - star general .......

This one guy posted multiple messages to back his own stance. Don't be fooled by this guy's disguise... Anyone should be judged by his actions not his words. Sar keng got the gut to speak out... at least... We should praise him for bringing out the awareness to this critical national issue occurring in economic police department. To fight it or not is up to HUN SEN, after all, he is a strong man ruling (not govern) this country.

Ah Sar Kheng look like Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Sar Kheng got the gut to speak out, just right now, after he has got more than enough?

Corrution is a key for Vietnamization in Cambodia because Hanoi can manipulate this to benefit its own agenda.

Another Vietnamization has been found in Khmer Krom during 1950s during which South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem (1955-1963) orderder to have all Khmer Krom names changed to Vietnamese names so that it disolved Khmer Krom Identity.

UNPO Website:
"During the presidency of the Republic of South Vietnam (1955-1963), Ngo Dinh Diem ordered that all Khmer names be changed to Vietnamese, and the Khmer-Krom identity was altered by a new and easily identifiable as the Vietnamese of Khmer Origin."

I think at least someone like HE Sar Kheng stood out with the gut to put emphasis on corruption issue within the police taskforce. And Cambodia's future really welcome.

Appreciate him, since there is time for a "do" and a "don't". He started now. Bless him

He seems to very courageous to do so which is very different from his CPP leagues who said nothing but smiled for something we, Cambodians, know.

I may wish to see his words become more stronger translated in action, which shall be accounted as a new chapter of Khmer history who addressed the issue.

Bless his initiative, dear deputy prime minister, good luck and one to see you as prime minister
