ABC Radio Australia
Cambodia's two main opposition parties are discussing a merger to contest the next general election.
The Phnom Penh Post reports that Human Rights Party has suggested to the Sam Rainsy Party that the two campaign together for the 2012 poll under the one banner.
President of the Human Rights Party, Kem Sokha, says the alliance has been struck at an opportune moment for rallying a growing number of people rejecting the ruling Cambodian People's Party.
The Sam Rainsy Party, Cambodia's main opposition for more than a decade, says it will take the idea to its leadership to decide.
However, for now the union will be in spirit only, to avoid a parliamentary rule that seats must be sacrificed if parties merge.
Together, the Sam Rainsy Party and the Human Rights Party would a total of 29 seats.

Kem Sokha is smarter Sam Raingsy;
because, Kem Sokha knows his party will goes no where only 3... So, Kem Sokha plays political game with Sam Raingsy by using the word "Unite". So, Kem Sokha can use resources and popularity by merging into SRP to strength within HRP before they go creat another new one. It's happen to these people before, but, they never ever learn their lesson.
I say merge or not it is still a fail coalition.
It is just a matter of time when the HRP is bought over by the CPP.
I have nothing against either of these men. This is just a suggestion to all you pro-Western folks. If you want the Khmer people to support you, you can start by stop going on the radio and speaking Khmer "phai-lam phai-lam" with a fake Western accent. We all know that you can speak Khmer clearly but are faking Western accents to set yourselves apart from the rest of us. Just imagine what the reaction would be if I went on the radio and spoke with a Vietnamese accent (I spent 8 years in VN to study but speak Khmer perfectly).

For the welfare of your oppressed people, you two must unite to fight in the next election. Show poeple your Khmer patriotism, not a puppetic one!
It's time for Ah Scam Rainxy to step down and let someone else challenges the ruling party in the next election.
Hey, 9:24AM, can you mention one name of your favorite leading politician who is more popular than Sam Raingsy or Kem Sokha? You and I khow all the well-knowm Khmer politicians of these days in Cambodia. I'm not these two politicians'supporter, but what I want is to have a leader who cares about the welfare of the suffering Khmer people, and who is respectable by the people. Hun Sen does not fit in a ruling position: he has very little moral qualities. A human without respectable moral qualities is just a little better than animal.
What do you mean popular? Anyone can bribe a few poor people to follow them. Wake up, 10:33!
