Cambodian PM regrets death of Khmer typewriter keyboard inventor [-Keng Vannsak corresponded with Hun Sen?]

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his deep regret here on Monday over the death of Keng Vannsak, inventor of the Khmer typewriter keyboard.

Vannsak just died at 83 years old of pneumonia in a hospital at the outskirts of Paris, where he had lived since the 1970s. His funeral will be held there on Tuesday.

"I was so regretful that we lost a famous intellectual of our country," Hun Sen told the graduation ceremony of a university.

"Grandfather Keng Vannsak told me in a recent letter that he had the plan to visit Cambodia," he said, adding that he had never returned to Cambodia since the 1970s.

Vannsak invented the Khmer typewriter keyboard in 1952 and was also known as a politician, Khmer-language teacher and scholar, poet, composer and historian.

Really, the old man had never returned to Cambodia since the 1970s. That is truly shameful. He should have make time to visit the country of his birth before it was too late. RIP Old baldy man. Your time has past and now the Internet age will take over your dinosaur outdated invention that you just adapted from the existing technology anyway.

it's such a waste of life for an extraordinary person like him. he's should've come back home to cambodia to help with the building of our beloved nation, despite the ups and downs we all went through. sad indeed! well, perhaps, he will always be remembered as the man who helped to invent the first typewriter for the khmer language, that is!

DEar Poster 2:37AM,
There is no place for Cambodian overseas to come to Cambodia for building Cambodia at all. Each position is for sale from the top to the bottom and then each position from the bottom need to suck moneys to feed those at the top. It is exactly like a tree in which the flowers and the leaves are green because they were being fed to them all the nutriens from all the roots which are deep in the ground. Those who have suffered are the lands ( ordinary people has only skin and bones working every days just to feed the lifestyle of people who have controled them). In the west, they call this system as pyramid and is illegal to all countries. It will be a longtime to see Cambodia back on track to the real development like China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and many other developped countries. As I have said before many times that economic development and social development should go hand in hand. An economic development in which we see our people have to loose their lands and their properties and have to live in misery is not a real development. It is a sale of Nation. Areak Prey

At least, Hun Sen acknowledges a Khmer intellectual! That's a great move.

It should not be called the invention of Khmer Typewriter. Typewriter were invented by someone else not this old man. He just help to arrange khmer word on the keyboard. This is not a real invention. Khmer, please understand clearly between invention and improvement.

YOU CAN'T INVENT SOMETHING THAT ALREADY BEEN FOUND AND WIDELY USE AROUND THE GLOBE.

3:33am, i respect your view. well, perhaps, it's time to change that kind of pessimistic, outdated mentality, my dear. people reap what they planted. perhaps, it time for cambodian people to adopt new thinking as well along with the national development. remember, too, that throughout the history of mankind, every people made mistakes, learnt from that and came up with better ways to help their lives. and cambodia should wake up to that by now; it's been too long already! again, remember what president harry s. truman once said: " image what we all can accomplish or achieve if only we do not care who gets the credit." we need to start with ourselves and stop the selfishness. helping your country can make you feel good about yourself, too! it's ok to change our thinking, just a little, if it will help! thank you.
