Hun Sen's gambling directive not aired: Gasp! The CPP-controlled news media is not fully controlled by Hun Sen after all?

In Brief: Gambling directive not aired, says PM

Prime Minister Hun Sen blasted national and private television companies on Monday for not broadcasting his directive on the regulation of gambling machines. "I issued the directive on December 5, but broadcasts only started on December 19," the premier said Monday during a graduation ceremony at the National Institute of Education. The directive states that all Cambodians are forbidden to play slot machines and that all stand alone machines must be fully licensed and kept only in private rooms at hotel and leisure complexes.

I appreciate PM's action against the slot machine and the whole gambling industry however I strongly reject that high ranking government official intention to shut down KI media. Listen to our Lord Buddha teaching to take the middle way "Too tight, the Chapei string will be detached and too loose it will not give you the right tune". If the government keeps doing this kind of censorship, it kills the media freedom of expression = kill the media = our people remain poor and uneducated = decrease of morale = Cambodia remains the 3rd world country = POORER.

Don't know what others have to say, that my views and KI media should keep its stand.

This is an outrage! Samdech Hun Sen's directive must be published by all media outlets, including KI-Media (perhaps this one way to avoid being shut down by the high ranking official).

KI-Media should spend less time tearing fellow Khmers down and more time on the African niggers who are running wild on Monivong Boulevard.

These black apes, along with the old fat, white orangutans, are here to prey on Khmer women and children while trafficking drugs and running internet scams.

If you have people in Cambodia collecting news like you claimed, how can you miss all the niggers who are degrading our women and culture?

It just goes to show that you people are only interested in licking the white man's balls and don't give a flying fuck about our nation being overrun by wild monkeys.

(Yeah, I'm the "angry" KI-Media reader that you posted about)

Just adding to the comments made above, I think you are spot on with your view on both issues.

The PM has been quite right in his dealings with social vices such as seedy Karaoke establishments which are often a front for licensed prostitution and other disorderly activities detrimental to the peace and well-being of society. In this, he stands out from many of his contemporaries including men in high places (one was reputed to be a member of his own family circle) whose hedonistic pursuits are the stuff of legend.

It was a relief when the Naga floating casino was finally moved on from that most public of places on the Mouth of the River where ordinary citizens used to go to for late afternoon relaxation. But some how, a sizeable area on that part of the river bank remains (unless I am terribly mistaken and for which I would readily apologise) cordoned off and thus denying the general public their right to a traditional recreation spot.

One also notes with concern that a part of the same casino chain has then sprung up next door to (of all places) the Buddhist Institute which has gambling inscribed as one of the Three principal Vices afflicting humanity.

As for the abusive and unprofessional language directed against the government and the PM noted by the anonymous high-ranking official, I would urge him or her to maintain some sense of proportions before using this abusive instance (which is far from being representative of all KI Media readerships) as a pretext for suffocating free expression.

Certainly, I think the government could win over many of its critics in the long run by exercising due tolerance towards some form of dissent which is an anathema to authoritarian, one-party rule, but nonetheless integral or even critical to the growth of liberty and democracy. After all, on the subject of abuses and trading insults of all kind, as well as ‘terrorism’ and misrepresentations, one have heard and witnessed (including the assassinations of political rivals, rights campaigners and reporters) over the years all these things emanating from some of the most powerful sources and figures in this government.

We also need to reflect on the causes of all these abuses, these acts of violence that pervade Cambodian life including domestic abuses and violence directed against the most vulnerable men and women in our midst. The next step for people in positions of power and influence to do will be to practice restraint, compassion, tolerance, yet have courage in coming to the aid of the poor and defending all our compatriots against injustice and oppression.

For lack of guidance, a nation falls; many ‘advisors’ make victory sure.

8:03 PM. I appreciate your fair and balanced assessment. It's funny how KI-Media has found a way to mock and trivialize a positive gesture by His Excellency Samdech Hun Sen.

As the "angry" KI-Media reader pointed out, this website has yet to publish a story about the ubiquity of African nationals all over Phnom Penh who are up to no good.

If KI-Media local reporters could not notice their pitched black skin with flashing white teeth, it's to miss their smells. I was in an internet cafe the other day and was suddenly hit with a whiff of indescribable stench. I turned my head to the door, and sure enough, it was a couple of strapping black men entering the cafe, presumably to email people about their distant relative in Nigeria who is trying to give away 10 million dollars.

As far as I'm concerned, KI-Media has zero credibility, but I think it's fun to have them around, if only to show the bias and lunacy if its creators.

Having those African nationals roam PP's streets results from the government.

11:00PM. You're missing the point. Although I agree that the government should do something about those niggers, KI-Media does not seem to be concerned that our country is being overrun by these primates. They're worse than the glue-sniffing monkeys at Wat Phnom.

I think KI doesn't do reporting. KI just basically posts already written news pieces from various sources. As far as I know, neither anti-government nor pro-government news media report this issue.

Indeed it is my concern too. It is like a ticking bomb. I don't want Cambodia to be a vice den.

Awhile back we had something like "khmeng Watt khnong Srok (local pagoda thug(?) just like Hun Sen once was if may add)" here on KI-Media... We now have these monkeys pretenders so-called fake Ph.D from Hanoi (bought off by the Viet while they were trying to paint their life story otherwise) who have nothing but just the attempt to bore KI-Media to its demise...
If you brainwashed-bought-off-by-the-Viet-junkies/clowns read this note, please quit boring me personally because until your Viet puppet one-eye Prime Minister Hun Sen can rid of the Viet yoke and give the Cambodian people the freedom to live and to choose, you clowns are nothing but just that: The Viet slave!

p.s. And you clowns Ph.D from Hanoi please, quit mistaking me for Dr. Lao Mong Hay because for the millionth time, I am not. I am just a Khmer kid brought up an raised to love Khmer.

i give a lot of credit to the prime minister. it seems like he has a tough job ruling cambodia, especially after the KR had left behind, an almost destroyed society, etc... i think people should appreciate what the prime minister had accomplished so far in cambodia because it's not an easy task as cambodia had started almost from zero again, literally speaking. it is easier for his critics or others who seem to dislike him because of background, his mediocre beginning, or even his political affiliation, and those people will always try to discredit him from the comfort of their homes overseas, etc... of course, it was very easy for them to just critic. however, the real action is with mr. hun sen in cambodia where the real works are located and his tasks are many, to say the least. on top of that, his tasks are harder when a lot of people seemed not to cooperate, but instead making his jobs even harder for him. those bad people are not really the hero, actually; the leaders in cambodia are the real hero, at least to the overwhelming majority of the khmer people living in cambodia. i know some people find that hard to believe, but it's the reality, though. to make things worst, condescending comments and defamation aren't helpful either. some people need to open their eyes to see the real results in cambodia, not just a dream. there is a real difference there. please keep up the good work, mr. prime minister; you've achieved a lot for cambodia since the fall of the KR on. god bless you and your family and cambodia.

No one has the license to oppress their own people like HUN SEN does and give carte blanche to the Viet like HUN SEN had done and is still doing either reagardless of how tough the job is while demonizing the Khmer Rouge like HUN SEN does specifically when Hun SEN himself was one of them!

Haha what did i said Hun Sen and his official are all talk but not action...
He able to govern Cambodia for 25 years without much chantges to the right growth but all to the worng growth such as gambling, land grabbing, illegal logging, encourage corruption, media censorshiping and many more...
He cannot fix any of these issues as there is no Law in cambodia beside what come out of Hun Sen mouth in which some time he tried to lick it back....but too late.
