VietNamNet Bridge – A delegation from the Cambodian Royal Army’s Infantry Command has arrived on a working visit to Vietnam’s southwestern localities and will join celebrations marking the 64th establishment anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army on Dec. 22.
The delegation was received by Son Song Son, Deputy Head of the Southwestern Region’s Steering Board, in Can Tho City on Dec. 19.
Son briefed the delegation on socio-economic development in the region and the lives of local residents, who include more than 1 million Khmer ethnic people.
Son stated that the Vietnamese Party and State have been always paid due attention to developing the economy and improving the living conditions for the nation’s ethnic minorities, as well as assisting them in maintaining and preserving their cultural treasures and heritage.
Son also informed the guests that the number of poor ethnic families in the southwestern region has been steadily reducing and that their children are provided with a decent standard of education.
The cultural traditions and customs of the Khmer group, as well as the Cham and Chinese groups have been preserved and upheld through their colourful festivals that are organised throughout the year.

Isn't it funny how the statistic of Khmer Krom residence has never changed since 1975? Khmer Krom were "more than 1 million" then, and even now in 2008 by Hanoi statistic the population has remained at 1 million still. Stupid fucking yuon politics.

The reality is this :
- There are more than ten Khmer Krom nationals in Kampuchea Krom. To hide that, what Vienam is doing is like hiding an elephant using a basket.
-Vietnam can not treat Khmer Krom people the same as the Cham and the Chinese. Cham displaced there to the South because the Viets invaded their land, and the Chinese are there for business purposes. But the Khmers were there for thousands of years because the territory is their country.
