"The Vietnamese delegation [led by Son Song Son] called on the Khmer ethnic community of southern Vietnamese origin, to work hard and abide by law in the residence country."
Vietnam’s southwestern region steering board has sent a delegation to Cambodia to boost neighbourliness, including border security both in land and at sea.

During their ten-day stay up to January 20, the Vietnamese guests visited the sisterly provinces of Kep, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong and the Riem naval base.

The southwestern Vietnamese delegation, led by Son Song Son, Deputy Head of the steering board and member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, discussed with the host issues related to border security, including fishing operations from both sides.

The two parties considered the pros and cons for residents on the either side of the common border so as to make joint efforts in providing favourable conditions for them to earn their livings.

Host and guest discussed concrete measures to boost relations between sisterly provinces, including plans and orientations for cooperation in all fields, ranging from economics to culture and science-technology.

The Vietnamese delegation called on the Khmer ethnic community of southern Vietnamese origin, to work hard and abide by law in the residence country. It warned them to be on their guard against acts of sabotage against the Vietnamese and Cambodian states by hostile forces.

The Vietnamese delegations also visited monks and nuns at Ong Ta Ming pagoda in Phnom Penh and had working sessions with Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith and the Senate’s Office.

A delegation from the south-western steering committee led by its deputy head Son Song Son has paid a week-long visit to Cambodia.

During its stay from August 11-18, the delegation worked with the Cambodian Council of Ministers and the General Department of Public Security to discuss security along the borderline between the two countries.

The two sides agreed that the planting of border markers between the two countries should be completed in early 2012 as scheduled to build the borderline into one of peace, security and friendship and create favourable conditions for cross-border trade activities. Cambodia was committed to closely working with Vietnam to control and deal with reactionary forces.

While meeting with Khmer people and bonzes in Phnom Penh, the Vietnamese delegation said that Vietnamese Party and State always attach much importance to ethnic minority people, including Khmer people. They also visited Kompong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Pursat, Battambang, and Kompong Speu provinces.

VietNamNet Bridge – A delegation from the Cambodian Royal Army’s Infantry Command has arrived on a working visit to Vietnam’s southwestern localities and will join celebrations marking the 64th establishment anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army on Dec. 22.

The delegation was received by Son Song Son, Deputy Head of the Southwestern Region’s Steering Board, in Can Tho City on Dec. 19.

Son briefed the delegation on socio-economic development in the region and the lives of local residents, who include more than 1 million Khmer ethnic people.

Son stated that the Vietnamese Party and State have been always paid due attention to developing the economy and improving the living conditions for the nation’s ethnic minorities, as well as assisting them in maintaining and preserving their cultural treasures and heritage.

Son also informed the guests that the number of poor ethnic families in the southwestern region has been steadily reducing and that their children are provided with a decent standard of education.

The cultural traditions and customs of the Khmer group, as well as the Cham and Chinese groups have been preserved and upheld through their colourful festivals that are organised throughout the year.
