Evictees Deserve Compensation: Rights Worker

Hun Sen's rectangular strategy to fight poverty? Worth nothing more than TRASH!

A leading rights worker denied on Monday that non-governmental organizations were pushing an agenda for the displaced residents of a Phnom Penh slum, but are urging the government to provide them fair compensation.

“We know there has been some allegations against NGOs,” said Kek Galabru, founder of the rights group Licadho, as a guest on “Hello VOA” Monday. “But we NGOs only know that the people want fair compensation if they are evicted from the area.”

Kek Galabru was addressing government criticism of rights groups in the eviction of Dey Krahorm, a neighborhood in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district, over the weekend.

Residents, who are among the city’s most disenfranchised, were ejected hundreds of demoltion workers of the 7NG development company and riot police, who launched tear gas and opened water cannons on them.

7NG had promised to pay $20,000 per home, but only one person of thousands had been compensated, Kek Galbru said. Some had only received $500.

7NG adviser Srey Sothea canceled an appearance on “Hello VOA” Monday.

Forced evictions have occurred with more frequency in recent years, as land prices in the capital and across the nation have risen. Kek Galabru said evictions of should be done according to law and in the interest of the people.

Poor or rich, the human characteristic is still the same. This is what you call, greed of the rich meets greed of the poor. 20,000 dollars is a lot of money in Cambodia where the average factory garment worker gets 50 dollars a month. Just do the math and you'll see if the residents there are victims or injustice or victims of their own greed, with a little devil whisper from rights group and political parties who seek to use this for their personal gain in discrediting the current government.

Foolishness! Isn’t it time to learn about trust in Ah Kwack a traitor? Stop giving him your votes and look into changing a direction of the leader. That’s just a promise to attract votes during his campaign. Once he got what he wants, he forgets what he’d promised you. Do you think he’d care about your land or hear your complaints? It’s not the first time and will not be the last either. He’ll keep giving people empty promise as long as he needs to hold on to power thu corruptions.

Most of the people seem like they’re frogs living in a deep well.
They can’t further far-away. Learn from your mistake, folks!

This is the sign for the end of CPP terms. Mistrust it own people and voters. As an old say, If you don't know where you come from, then you don't know where you going. Fool it own people by diverting the problem to Preah Vihear to win the election. I feel sorry for those who love Khmer so much just like me by voting for him to defend our border. After all it just a joke.
The old say, take just what you need, but don't take all because what you want, Save some for the needdy. Judghtment day will come and all the money not worth any thing to them. Look at Saddam and Bin Ladden moneys. You guys figure it out. You can run but you cannot hide. Put them all in the genocide tribunal.

This is a chance for Gen. Ke Kimyan to call all his comrade to support this victim protest and oust out this regime. Put on some colors shirt like Thailand.

put on some colors shirt like Thailand? lol

We need to be very careful for any protest. When it comes to Ah Kwack, a traitor, he is not that polite allowing people to copy from color shirt like democratic Thailand. He is known as brutality former Khmer Rouge killer. He willing to throw another grenade and have a lot of people killed like he did to Sam Ransy’s supporters.

You are quite correct my brother.
LMAO
That's what you get when you choose the blind driver Uno-Eye rice paddy, temple student. You bring your own misery. Western World earn it repect because of they respect humanity. Why don't all Khmer wake up and smell Dunken Doughnet and coffee. Don't eat too much prohook and liguor you will have liver disease. The country doesn't have modern Hospital or Dispensary Clinic to treat you.

A little drunk in the Western world there, buddy? The Western world you're living in wasn't so such a great place for you to brag about until about 40 years ago. You heard of the term gooks, chinks, niggers, faggots? You heard of separate drinking fountains? Separate schools for white and colors? Japanese internment camp? You heard of slavery? Don't be all too mighty with your Western world's utopia, next thing you know you could be making charcoal calendar on the wall in an internment camp for being Asian, or Latino, or black, etc...

You don't get it. I think you still trapped in the past with full of racial and discrimination. You're right they're exist in the past. But to when they tell you I'm America. That express that this country doesn't judge by colors, religion, ethnic background, handicape, They say that's to express to you that we're democracy. For the people and by the people. Not just for you. Do you get it? All those that hate America is Sihanouk and people like you that keep on oppress that old, women and children just to gain power. How small is Cambodia now on the world map? Take a good look.

Idiot 6:49AM judges the Western world by his way of thinking. It’s far more freedom and more advance than you ever imagine.

Where have you been lately? You must have seen it and stepped you dirty feet on it and still put down on the Western worlds?

What a moron!

6:49AM,
It will never happen as you dreamingly describe. Just look back into America history over one hundred years ago , the gold-rush era, when the Chinese immigrant first came and settle here and can you see the differences? The brains of the thoughtful American laws makers could make a country of 13 states became a country of 50 states. People from so many places and background have been flowing into this country to catch their Amrican dream; some succeed and some fail, but they very rarely want to go back to where they came from. This country will never shrink back because she has been well protected by laws of land, not like Cambodia that has been shrunk smaller and smaller because of the reckless and thoughtless leaders who disrespect their own laws.

Do you really think racial discrimination is gone? Call me all the names you want. But I'll behave like a gentlemen and say this. Racial discrimination still exists in America. In the big cities and urban areas, it has taken different forms. Someone might not say to your face racial slurs but the way they treat you clearly represents the existence of racism in America. For instance, a black guy walks into a store, do you keep an eye on him more than the white guy? If you do, isn't that caused by your racism against black, thinking all blacks are criminals. If you don't, guess what, many other people do. Another instance, if you really believe racism is gone from the US, go down south. Just try West Virginia.

Here is a taste of your racism-free America. Btw, this is not in the past. I live in America and know what's going on around me. Maybe you do too but you choose to ignore it. I study about American history of ignorance, racism, and hatred in school. The Western world has got its good side but it's not all rainbows and sunshines, buddy.

US have 48 states include alska and Hawii make it 50 State. I've been live in the city also, I know what you mean. But I make my choice and move out the city to the country side. In the city, I been making friend with black, white, asian, latino, hatii etc. I have no problem. I sleep with my door unlock an my brand new vehicle unlock also. Nobody borther me. I seen people doing illegal stuff on the street, I don't borther to pay any attention to them. For over nine years in the city. Nobody call me ching or kook or kick my ass. It's how you treat people. Treat others like you want to be treat.

Rascism still exists in America, but it's much better than facing discrimination in Cambodia.

8:01AM,
You're right. I don't claim that America is free from racism, but I have been living here for over 20 years, no one has ever hurt, harm or called me anything.

I'm not trying to paint an image of bad America but just trying to show that Cambodia is not the very bad place like some people like to make it out to be by pointing out the dark sides of other places show by comparison that whatever problems Cambodia has other place has it too if not that equivalent. The only difference is the quantity of it. I just happen to live in America so I just use America as an example to show that even the richest and most developed country in the world still have dark sides to it, not just poor little old Cambodia.

I've been punched by a black guy in the subway before and for the initial few days, I had strong racist grudge against all black just because of what that one black guy did but I have since learned not to make a racist out of myself. In America, everyone is brought up to think in generalization, a stepping stone to racism itself. You would be a true ignorant fool if you believe that America is so perfect. No place is perfect. and no place is better than home. I will move back to Cambodia in a few years. I don't hate America but like as I believe no place is better than home, even if home has a few more bums than where I'm at right now. I know many overseas folks who also have the same mentality as me. They want to move back to Cambodia when they retire. If Cambodia is such a living hell like all these political people make it out to be, why would people want to leave the countries like America to go live there?

I'd love Cambodia more than any other place on this Earth, no matter what. That's why I'm going back home. If you hate it so much, don't go. Just stay in your newly adopted country. No one makes you go.

Anonymous said...

I'm not 8:01AM, but I think I have something in common to say. Cambodia is not bad. I love my country just as most Khmer do. A few day ago I wrote: In southeast Asia, Cambodia is the only country that so plentiful with natural resources . . . . What is worse is the puppetic rulers and his cronies who have raped and robbed her until she now becomes paralized!

Enjoy your journey my Combo-bro. If you decide to come back to your adopt home just don't bring hepetitise and Aids back to the US. We wish you the best of luck.

Anonymous said...

don't bring hepetitise and aids back to the US? Like the US don't have enough of that lol. Do some research. One in 4 Americans carry STD's without knowing about it because some STD's don't have break-outs. I think I read somewhere not that long ago that Cambodia has become the model for sexually transmitted disease protection. I know we used to have very bad rating but since then, people are educated about it and they wrap it up before tap it in lol where American like to do it bareback because it's more fun haha.
