In its report, Human Rights Watch (HRW) demands for an immediate release of Khmer Krom monks by Hanoi’s regime.
“The Vietnamese government should immediately free Khmer Krom Buddhist monks and land rights activists in prison or under house arrest for the peaceful expression of their political and religious beliefs,” HRW stated in a communiqué issued on Wednesday 21 January to coincide with its publication of a 125-page report “On the Margins: Rights Abuses of Ethnic Khmer in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.”
HRW’s report is based on testimonials from both sides of the Cambodian-Vietnamese border, and it denounces Vietnamese attack on freedom of expression, meeting, information and movement by Khmer Krom people living in Vietnam.
