VietNamNet Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum to focus on the development of education, which, he said, would be a decisive factor for the province’s sustainable development.
The Government leader was making a visit to the province on Jan. 18 on the occasion of the approaching traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
He asked the local authorities to accelerate the ground clearance and the disbursement of investment capital of delayed projects, particularly for building schools and district-level hospitals. Last year, Kon Tum Province’s disbursement rate was below 40 percent.
For social security, PM Dung called the authorities to pay a special attention to poverty alleviation and hunger elimination, particularly in Tu Mo Rong and Kon Plong districts, where almost 60 percent of households are poor.
He also suggested the province to zone off areas for farm produce, and fully tap potentials of wood industry, irrigation and tourism. The province’ location in the Development Triangle of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia would be an advantage to help it rapidly and strongly develop, he stressed.
Visiting the Dak Long Commune, Kon Plong District, the PM said the Government would step up the construction of roads, power network and infirmaries to ensure better living conditions for local people.
Last year, Kon Tum recorded a GDP growth rate of 15.63 percent despite economic difficulties. This year, the province plans to raise the rate to 16 percent while reducing the number of poor households by 3-4 percent, and increasing the average per-capita income to 13 million VND per year.
