A directive issued by Hun Sen indicated that civil servants who are over the retirement age must take their retirement as soon as possible.

“To stenthen good governance and for the efficiency of the country’s management, all civil servants who reach their retirement age must be retired as stipulated by the law for civil servants,” was the announcement made in the directive issued by Hun Sen on 12 January 2009. This directive put an end to the derogatory practice whereby some individuals were able to hold on to their position beyond 60-year-old.

All civil servants are not inclined to go fishing along the Mekong River, some of them rather cling on to their government position, and they have a hard time leaving their job, once their retirement age approaches.

In the upcoming days, some departments will most likely see promotions (to replace retired people). It is also planned that “all civil servants, who reach retirement age and who are still not retired, must leave for retirement as soon as possible.”

I believe that this call from Hun Sen will make everyone with retirement age to pay extra moneys to change their date birth certificate. Each year, thousand of CPP members have change their date certificate to make themselves looked younger. I bet everyone will still stay in their position even after this call. Indeed all military leaders and police leaders should also retire when their age reach to 60 years old. There are hundred of military and police leaders should retire. But they won't retire at all. What they will do, they will just change their date of birth. Areak Prey

Finally The PHD PM Hun Sen is heading in the right direction for a change. Now let see if he can enforce this one and make it happen?

P/S If you can put aside Govenment fund for any Khmer citizen age =>60 to get a monthly benefit allowance and healthcare....your are heading in the right direction, if not then it is just another lip service once again.

Wow! that means Hon Sen will also retire when he reach 60. What about all his mates like Heng Samrin and so on?

I think the retirement age should be 65. 60 is too early.

The problem is that many civil servants reduced their age on the official document from 5 to 10 years.

imagine those officers cling with top leaders like hun sen, heng samrin, or chea sim or sok ann and there is intervention from these figures, so that will affect only ordinary officers whose salary is between 20-50$.

things will be same all same. You need to figure out the root causes like weak laws, non-effectiveness of law implementation and no political will to fight all of these sickness.

that's the bottom line and correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't think PM should called for people to retire if he want to be PM until 122.

Apparently, not alot of you so called educated people on here are educated about Cambodian politics. The recent appointment of 1 star generals were just a compensation for decorative for those senior officers who will be forced to be retired with 1 star honor so the younger and more competent officers can replace them.

If you don't know how football is played, just sit on the sideline and watch, buddies.

Should every bodies have equal treatment that included Hun Sen?
One he plan to stay in his job until 90years old of age,I personal think Hun Sen should set up as good sample first.
Cambodian rules of laws are so funny I wish I can change my birthdate so I'm??

If you created a livable pension plan for civil servants, there would be a reverse direction in D.O.B. modification - people will bribe to have their dates of birth changed to make them get older. Most low-level officials will do, but the ones who are occupying "well-greased" positions will do everything to hold on. Cambodia still has a long way to go...

i'm glad somebody has finally say something about this issue because some elderly statesmen seemed to stay in power forever, even into their 60s and 70s when most people in the world, not just cambodia, would retired already at this age of their lives. thank you mr. hun sen for reminding these elderly statesmen to retire to make room for the younger generation to lead and take our country to the next step of development with fresh ideas, concepts, visions, dream, etc... please retire and travel the world and see the beautiful, big world out there for a change before we all get old and die from old age, etc... please enjoy life while we are still living. and of course, retired statesmen still can give advices to the younger generation of leaders, too. thank you and god bless cambodia.
