The Russian director of the Koh Puos Investment Group (KPIG) met with Hun Sen on Monday 26 January. If the development project seems to be on a normal course, the name of the project appears to be a problem [Does it remind people too much about Russian PIGs?].

Alexis Chipa, KPIG director, told Hun Sen during his meeting that “the construction project is progressing as planned. The project was shown in Hong Kong where it attracted a lot of interest and curiosity. The construction site will be completed in 14 months. Currently, we are setting up the beaches. In spite of the world crisis, there is no stoppage or slowdown of the work.”

Alexis Chipa also asked Hun Sen to allow him to change his company’s name to Heritage Island Cambodia Investment (HICI) which is more attractive for luring tourists. Chipa also proposed to Hun Sen to set up a coordination committee to facilitate the progress of the project.

Hun Sen agreed to the two proposals.

The development project for a tourist resort, at a cost of $300 million, will also include the building of a 900-meter bridge linking the island to the coastal land. The inauguration of the project was conducted by Hun Sen on 07 January 2008.
