Opposition leader Sam Rainsy said on Sunday 11 January that the alliance movement between the SRP and the HRP is an encouragement for those who lost faith due to the division among the democrats and who decided to leave the democrats behind. However, this alliance will bring these people back to action.
Sam Rainsy added that if no attention is paid to this alliance, the supporting votes will dwindle. Therefore, there must be a clear understanding on the goals and standing in order to form this alliance. On the other hand, the position occupied by individuals in the leadership of this alliance is secondary, Sam Rainsy indicated.
Sam Rainsy said: “It depends on the discussions, the SRP is not the only one to make the decision. We must discuss with each other, we must seek a mean to reach the relationship, the mean to reach the announcement of the merger or any other formulas, the schedule. There must be meetings to make the decision together, however, we have the same goals, we have already determined this.”
On Sunday, Kem Sokha, HRP President, said that he will meet with Sam Rainsy to discuss the alliance issue between the two parties next week. “I am telling you that we want an official answer from the SRP as to whether the SRP maintains a goal of forming an alliance with the HRP or not. He must agree to the goal first. As for the standing and direction (of the alliance), we can discuss about them, there’s no problem to that.”
In the past, Sam Rainsy claimed that the alliance between political parties without abiding to an internal rule of the alliance can lead to a weakening of the democracy votes. “We already saw the election results: those who do not follow their words, people will not vote for them, they lost a lot of votes and some parties almost vanished because their party leaders did not keep up with their promises.”
Kul Panha, Comfrel director, reminded that the alliance between two parties improves the common interest of the parties involved and democracy, however, an alliance is also a double-edge sword if one of the party leaders in the alliance betrays the alliance, then the alliance will mainly benefit other political parties instead.
On 07 January, Kem Sokha indicated that after the formation of the alliance between the two parties, HRP will leave the leadership position to Sam Rainsy and it will also support his candidacy to the premiership in the next election.

If you stop using a person's name for the party, I think there would be more Khmer intellectuals join you. It already sounds DICTATOR if you use your own name for the party's name.
People don't like CPP, but at the same time they don't see SR or HRP as a good alternative. These parties need to open up and redefine their strategies.
The way I see is that there is a good chance for the opposition to win if they chose the right campaign strategy, and themes.
Make it works. People will scrutinize the alliance. Don't let positions sharing stop the movement. This is the last chance. Build the foundation for Khmer youths who will become future leaders of the nation. Have vision for the country as a whole not just in your life time as opposition leaders AND must be prepared for the LONG struggle and never give up to PURE PUPPETS. CPP is copyrights of Vietnam, Khmer cannot depend on CPP.
To have a better chance to win, I would say Sam Rainsy and Khem Sokha should take advisory roles and nominate a younger, more energetic leader to lead the new alliance. Hun Sen knows Sam Rainsy and Khem Sokha's mentality too well. We need to have a new a person that can not only deal with Hun Sen in a smarter way, but also generate synergy among our (younger) people.
Our strength, resource and determination are there to go against Hun Sen on the issue of illegal settlers. We just need some chararismatic leader to stand up and lead our people.
HRP merging with SRP then change the change the name to something nationally sound. Name shall be short and meaningfull, national icon, etc. It is a good to start that Kem Sokha willing to support Sam Rainsy for premiership in the next election.
Compromising for the benefit of Khmer national is a good thing to do. Otherwise anyone of the two leaders or it officers will never achieve anything on the national assembly.
Welcome the merging!
I hope both of you can be trusted to each other. Otherwise...it is a death sentence.
PM Hun Sen, if you believe in a prediction, listen to this one carefully:
YOUR REGIME AND YOU CAME TO POWER BECAUSE OF YUONS; HOWEVER YOUR REGIME AND YOU WILL ALSO GO DOWN BECAUSE OF YUONS.
Up to the last election, people voted for you because the majority of those voters lived and suffered under the Khmer Rouge, and because of that they somehow felt more connected to you than the opposition. But as the time goes by, those memories now start to fade and get overshadowed by the fear of losing the country due to million of youns setllers in Cambodia. Also, younger generations do not remember or did not go through the suffering during the Khmer rouge. All these youngsters see are yuons illegally settled in our country.
The choice is your – either start solving the illegal youn immigrants now, or someone will lead the Khmer pepole movement to oust those youns and its puppets from Cambodia. Take my words, it will happen. The only question is how soon....
Hun Sen is not smart or intelligent leader. He has power that's why people afraid to speak up against him. He's so pro-Vietnam. The alliance must work hard to persuade those government servants to put the national interests first, most government servants are pro CPP, or total ignorant to the plight of the Khmer people and nation, for example NEC which is under the control of the CPP and all are under the control of ONE man, HUN SEN. Simply put the Khmer must wake up and care for one another. The CPP and NEC are already devising tricks and strategies to rig and rob the next election follow by the threat of war and instability because the Khmer people are easily threatened and gullible. Only good in shedding tears and begging but not fight for survival.
Neither Sam Rainsy nor Khem Sokha will take Hun Sen place. It will be somone else, possibly younger with more “guts” to take on Hun Sen. When the change comes, it will come swiftly because people have been waiting for so long...
8:05 AM: I absolutely agree with your ideas. Having a new name for the party would attract more Khmer intellectuals.
9:00 AM, I agreed with you. Hun Sen would accept the loss if his winner is not Sam Rainsy, Khem Sokha, or whoever is in the senior rank now. Only young but smart Khmer could defeat him or compete with his son.
Be careful to all Jati Khmer who sne`ha Jati. You can't only count on the word promise. Find any key to control or punish who ever broke their promised such as Prince Ranarith who walked away with smile on his face and don't feel no shame and I do beleive that kind bahavor is still exist to other Khmer. I don't mean that you have to stop alliance or joint together. Mornouss Ke Yourk Toeung Voeu, Doerm Chhoeu Ke Yourk Klem.
Good luck to our Jati Khmer.
USA.
You bozos look! Scam Raixy looks like a damn fool retard! & Khem Sokha looks like a rice wine drinker, lol!
Learn the failure of F'pec! never heard anyone discuss what were the strategies or leadership styles that brought the F'pec to its knee now?
And the way i see it is that Srp does not show firm stance to unite the people or play role as a representative of democrats yet. Or let me say that the party hasn't done "strong, efficient and reliable" enough to the democrats or dissidents against the gov.t policy and practice!
Wake up srp and embrace more new ideas and innovation..be abit more creative!!
Don't let Ah Scam Rainxy grips on to PM nominee forever.
Kem Sokha knows very well, that his
party is so weak in politix and also short in operation funds, so he try to join with Samraingsy, that some day he can steal Samrainsy party. That's the way the weak people do all the time.
"Chanh dermbey chhnas". "slap dermbey ros".
let them joint together soon other will follow...it never too late..when khmer made mistake will fight to correct it...let do for our khmer land and our youngs. Thank you all!!
Ah Scam Rainxy knew his party is screwed and has no future, which is why he's talking with the HRP as his long term insurance to stay in politic.
Dear Mr Sam Rainsy,
Dear Mr Kem Sokha,
Please do not waste to much time and energy to the form of each party.
Please focus on the essence:
Why are you not talking and working on leadership training, recruiting, and do same actions in the past that had made and give each party strenghts and attract people.
Each party has enough human ressources (in term of number) to train and build a strong and successful party.
What is lacking now is to train the human ressouces each party has.
Think about defection. It's an obvious sign of lack vision and hope, of trust and trustworthiness. It's symptoms of weakness and lack of high ethics.
Each party has it own sickness and wickness. (And of course its own strenght.)
If each party does not handle its weakness and sickness there will be no hope that victory will come. So the real challenge is to build up stenght and vigor in each party. The rest will be easier and victory will be in the reach of your hands. Talk and talk and and talk and alliance and merge and marriage will be useless without right action. A sick (physical/mental/spiritual) man and a sick woman won't make them a healthy married couple.
But even well fully equiped with all winning attributes, without God on your side and with you you won't win either.
Please be reminded, You are both one of the leaders of party, but the ultimate anf highest Leader is God alone. You need his guidance (wisdom knowledge, abilities) and his is your Guide.
Do not focus on Hun Sen. He is bond to doom.
Do not focus on problems. Do focus on God. By His favour and grace solution will inevitably bond to come.
I dont care what you motherfuckers talk about me!
Sam Rainsy
I dont give a fuck either!
Khem Sokha
