The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia held a get-together for Vietnamese nationals in Phnom Penh on January 21 to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The event was also attended by Var Kim Hong, senior minister and chairman of the Cambodian Committee for Border Affairs, and Long Visalo, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Lao and Cuban ambassadors to Cambodia.
Addressing the function, ambassador Nguyen Chien Thang extended New Year Greetings to all the Vietnamese community in Cambodia. He affirmed that the community is an indispensable part of the Vietnamese nation, and called Vietnamese nationals to work harder to further strengthen the traditional friendship between the two neighbouring nations.
He also thanked the Cambodian Government for creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese nationals to integrate well into the local community.
Hosts and guests raised toasts and enjoyed a special performance given by Vietnamese artists from Military Zone No7.
Earlier on January 20, ambassador Thang paid a pre-Tet visit and presented 100 gifts to Vietnamese nationals residing in Preh Tateng commune of Kandal province.
On this occasion, embassy officials and representatives from the Army-run Telecommunication Company (Viettel) presented more than 400 Tet gifts to the Vietnamese in Phnom Penh and Kompong Chhnang province.

Why does the Vietname govenment don't practice what they preached. They Preached about Cambodia and Vietname friendship and coorperation. But not letting our Khmer Krom people who lived in South Vietnam celebrate are Khmer customs in my view is dis-respectful by the Vietnamese and it government.
If they consider Cambodia as their friend then should treat all Khmer including Khmer Krom as one and not two tier....just like we allow them to celebrat their new year in Cambodia freely.
By the way they call it Chinese new year and not Vietnamese New year is because that is where the Viet originated from...we were kind enough to give them our land and home to stag, instead of appreciate our Khmer good faith they kicked us out of our land/home and claimed it as their..it is still happening today like Koh Trol...

Vietnamese are allowed to celebrate freely Chinese New Year in Cambodia, why can't Khmer Krom celebrate Khmer festivals freely in Vietnam?
THE ANSWER IS:
Because the government of Cambodia, led by the CPP allows Vietnam to get away with anything and everything. The CPP itself depends heavily on the mandates from Hanoi for its support and leadership in every level of governance.
Hanoi has always downplayed the atrocities and oppression of the Khmer Krom people. In most cases, the Vietnamese doesn't even recognize the Khmer Krom people, its culture, and its population. The CPP are too comfortable kissing up to Hanoi and feeding on the scraps that are thrown to them that they will never yield from Vietnamese "puppeteering".
One should never depend on the CPP to aid, provide relief or condemn Vietnam's abuse of our Khmer Krom brothers and sisters because its hopeless and its inevitably a lost cause. Action against Vietnam should be presented to the international organizations and nations.

It was true that some Khmers who mixed Youn in South I met didn't like to be Khmers, yes they helped Youn gov't and CIA to kill King Sihanouk back then. There are good Khmer Krom but there are bad Khmer Krom. It is hard to trust anyone when we were almost killed by them. Who knows among them still somebody want to kill us. Good Khmer Krom and bad Khmer Krom are living together the same Khmers in Cambodia who serve Youn and some are nationalist.
