Colin Pratt: Hun Sen's Paranoia Will Bring About His Own Demise

By Khmerization

The current military sackings and reshuffles have given rise to rumours that the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is cracking. Since the sacking of Gen. Ke Kimyan on 22nd January 2009, many political observers have viewed Mr. Hun Sen's action as a political and strategic manoeuvre to boost up his power grip while at the same time weakening the power of his CPP's arch-rival, Mr. Chea Sim.

Mr. Hun Sen, while trying to play down the rumours of the internal rifts within the ruling CPP, has repeatedly denied the rumours, but stated that the sackings and the reshuffles are parts of the military reforms. His denials are not very re-assuring as those sacked and demoted were Mr. Chea Sim's loyalists, while at the same time those who were promoted were Mr. Hun Sen's loyalists. Mr. Hun Sen's manoeuvre has been viewed as resulting from his paranoia and mistrusts of the people around him.

Many observers of the Cambodian affairs have predicted that the CPP, a party that thrived on its traditions of a strict communist discipline, is in a self-destruction due to Mr. Hun Sen's paranoia.

Mr. Colin Pratt, an Australian who was a longtime advisor to ex-king Sihanouk and the Cambodian Resistance in the 1980s, is one such observer who believes that Mr. Hun Sen's demise will come about by his paranoia, not by the actions of the opposition parties.

In an email to Khmerization recently, he opined and I quote:

The only hope for the demise of Hun sen lies in the collapse of the unity of
the CPP leadership, which Hun sen will probably bring about by his paranoid
will to rule and his "ambition to rule from the grave" (read family). The
opposition parties are a waste of time and will never defeat Hun Sen.

The world depression coming will test the Hun Sen Government
regards,
Colin Pratt

Mr. Pratt's rationale seems to be in line with a consensus belief among keen observers of Cambodian political affairs. Because the CPP leadership is very disciplined and has survived, and even thrived, on many attempts to destroy it, there is a general view that the CPP's demise will only come from within. Only the elements and the internal infighting within the CPP will bring about its own collapse.

Seeing Mr. Hun Sen's recalcitrant and dangerous political manoeuvre, Mr. Pratt's suggestion of Mr. Hun Sen's demise from his paranoia seems surreal and his "ambition to rule from the grave" is prophetically coming.

It remains to be seen if Mr. Pratt's prophecy is proved to be true. Only time will tell.

I agree with Colin Pratt. Hun Sen's demise will come about by his paranoia in a self-destruction. The way Hun Sen is trying to consolidate his powers by sacking Chea Sim's supporters will one day backfire and Hun Sen will face rebellion.

I disagree with Colin Pratt, this is because Chea Sim and his team are pussy cats and gutless.

Very soon Hun Sen is going to find a replacement to the Minister of Defense and getting rid of Chea Sim loyalist Tea Banh in an effort to take control of the Ministry of National Defense. The CPP will soon self-destruct by an implosion from within and eventually will result in the formation of smaller splintered CPP factions hungry to take over the core leadership. To prevent this, you will see Hun Sen calling on Sao Sokha to bring into Phnom Penh the military police to arrest particular CPP individuals, using the pretext that they were involved in illegal business activities. Fighting will arise as Chea Sim loyalist factions in the RCAF are summoned into Phnom Penh. Many of Chea Sim's loyalists will either be imprisoned or executed.

5:04am I agree with you. I can see the scenario being played out. Tea Banh these days is a very irrelevant individual. Even though his tendencies allow him to be seen more of a Chea Sim man (more of a Say Puthang man back in the day), his usefulness was more welcomed back when Thailand was under the Thaksin Shinawatra administration since Tea Banh was head of the Ministry of Defense and some of his policies had the RCAF working alongside Thai business interests. I think Chea Sim might want Ke Kimyan to replace Tea Banh as a manouever to keep the Minisitry of Defense under Chea Sim's faction of the CPP. However, I see Hun Sen naming someone such as his son Hun Manet as the new Minister of Defense sometime in the future because he had already hinted of this back in 2007.

Hun Sen once quoted in a speech,

"...only Hun Sen can defeat Hun Sen..."

Hun Sen's quote actually is a serendipity within itself in terms of his unknowingly self premonition. Looks like Hun Sen is slowly digging himself into his own grave and along with it the unity of the Cambodian People's Party. His own actions will indeed be the catalysts that ignites his very own self-destruction.

Thank you Hun Sen for doing our job to remove yourself for us. Saved us our own bullets.

hunxen is engrossed and obsessed with his own newfound power and name that he is going to become mentally ill. Other figures like hunxen had existed, like king Taksin in the 1700s dreaming of competing with buddha. hunxen name is everywhere such as hunxen meanchey shcool, hunxen public toilets, hunxen karoak bars, hunxen 5-star brothels, hunxen resturants, hunxen petrol stations, hunxen pigfarms, hunxen cemeteries, hunxen palm juice inns, hunxen guesthouses, hunxen the pimp, hunxen the killer.

A good leader will allow his country to prosper and he will die in dignity. A strongman leader such as Pol Pot and many other would have died in small pieces and in tragedy. Areak Prey

4:21am,

Chea Sim and Hun Sen are just the role players, or political actors who will act on the political stages when the Vietnamese pull the strings to act. Everything is planned and masterminded by the VN.

Now, the country is Cambodia by name only, not by race, not by the spirit of Khmer, not by any real identity of Khmers. This is the process of Vietnamization,a long-term strategy of Hanoi.

To materialize the strategy towards the Vietnamization of Khmers, Hanoi has used and changed a lot tactics. So what has taken, is taking or will take place in Cambodia are really the processes and steps in Vietnamizing Cambodia.

The Indochinese Federation of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos under the Vietnamese power is viewed as shadow, but is appearing concrete and this will come true before long.

At that time, the Viet bloods have already entered into all parts of the body of Cambodia: in the Legislative, the Executive, and the Judiciary. They will be functioning Cambodia from the top leadership and management politically, economically, militarily, culturally and so on...

Hun Sen was best selected as a political actor by the VN to play the Key roles for the VN's Ambition.

It is hard to change this. But we hope that the change will change itself.

Yep, and Ah Scam Rainxy and Lon Nol was one heck of a strongman that faded away in just a short time.

On the other hand, the true blue Khmer liberator and savior like PM Hun Sen will never died. He'll continue to serve the country and Khmer People forever.

Folks,

Nature of communists never bites each other. They are playing traps to catch fishes.

Hun Sen, Chea Sim, Heng Somrin, Chea Soth, Say Bothong, and other senior CPP officials are the same. They are crook and corrupt.

Only one thing to defeat these people is to educate Cambodian people about freedom, and democracy. Take time but will prevail.
