In a public declaration, Prime minister Hun Sen recognized that the breakup of the Funcinpec royalist party was his achievement.
Hun Sen declared that Funcinpec weakening was because, in the past, it attempted to interfere in the CPP internal affair.
Hun Sen said: “Funcinpec, I recognize [that I weakened it], why did I do it? Because Funcinpec was interfering too much in the CPP internal affair. Therefore, in April ’97, I splintered Funcinpec from one group into 11 groups, since then, Funcinpec became weakened. If at that time, it did not interfere in the CPP internal affair, I will not touch Funcinpec. But, now I am confirming that whoever that is, whichever party it is, if they dare interfere with the CPP, then you will not be in peace, I will move in until I reach your last refuge directly.”
Up until now, the division of Fnncinpec led to the pullout of Prince Norodom Ranariddh from political life, and currently, this party only holds two seats at the National Assembly.
More recently, a large number of high-ranking Funcinpec officials defected to join the CPP as well.
Hun Sen’s recall of his strategy to divvy up Funcinpec came at a time when he is issuing warnings to other opposition parties which he suspects of wanting to interfere in the CPP internal affair.
Hun Sen said that, the recent sacking of CPP general Ke Kim Yan from the position of army chief of staff led to criticisms from the opposition parties claiming that the CPP are currently facing internal dispute.
Not only did Hun Sen deny this fact, he also warned the opposition from interfering in the CPP internal affair: “Those who attacked the CPP, do you know how many of them vanished? Whoever used to interfere in the CPP’s internal affair, they will face retaliation. Retaliation means that we will hit you inside your last headquarter, this is self-defense. The CPP is only self-defending itself, we will not interfere in your affair, but, because you like to incite [our CPP people], I will hit inside your headquarter.”
Hun Sen said that even within the opposition parties, he has some of his men hidden in there, and his CPP people are leading an opposition to their party leaders during the period of preparation for the non-universal election to select district, province and municipality leaders for the entire country.
There is no reaction yet from the opposition parties on this issue.

Frankly, I agree with you. This blind mad dog is the product of Yuons. Yuons have done all the work and they let Hun Sen scoop the credit. Without Yuons, Hun Sen the ill-bred would never be at where he is now, but a shameless fool has never felt quilty of having done wrong.
I wonder why he never strongly declares like that when it comes to talking about the Thais invaders at the border? Will he be as strong as he acts against his own people?
Mr. Hun Sen was only partially correct; however, he should give one-half of the credit to Prince Ranariddh as well. The Prince was also one of the main architect who was responsible for the demolition of FUNCINPEC. Nhek BunChhay or Lu Lay Sreng and the likes were merely decorative tools - especially, BunChhay, he has been like a weather man, whatever the direction of the season or the wind goes, he will follow.
On the Thai aggression issue, there is another train of thought that tends to see that SR, or NR, or KS could probably not be much more effective than the current cliques.
Problems we have now, is for the current cliques to see that corruption and impunity actually are limiting the potential of political maturity and economic development of Cambodia. If CPP could modify their leadership style and effectively develop the independence of different check-and-balance systems for the sake of the country and its people, they would score a perfect 10 in the eyes of many.

It's as irrelevant as it's immeterial. The CPP is the Viet controlled systems and regime. It's by the Viet for the Viet. You know it, I know it and the world knows it! Without the Viet, there is no HUN SEN and there is no CPP.

HS is from a military background and history of violent struggles; also he is an avid chess player; so even his speech he does not sound educated or refined, his strategies have been mostly effective. He has outmaneuvered so many so-called "well-educated" opponents for so many times.
The above statement does not in anyway condone impunity, corruption, and injustice that were parts of the results of HS' potical maneuvers. However, if he could polish his handling of those unpleasant tactics, he would again outsmart his opposition.
So, what in store for the "democrats" or opposition? They need to re-strategize and build their strengths to become more relevant and appealing. The focus should be less on attacking individual flaws, but on the philosophy and actions of the ruling cliques. Other option is to apply the same startegy that HS said he successfully used to break FUNCINPEC. Anyway, at the end of the day, anyone who wants to be successful must first realize the reality on the ground and of his own capability at the moment.

Regardless of how HUN SEN's past is exagerated to be, which to some He was just a mere Viet indoctrinated soldier, the Viet put Hun Sen up there - that's the fact that no one can dispute or deny.
If one were to take the Viet out of the equation, then evidentially, there has been no Hun Sen and simultaneously no CPP.
Hun Sen has nothing of his own and just to reiterate it - nothing: he lasts this long simply because of the Viet that is in every twist and turn, from the top to the bottom structure of the current regime. This is also just to reconfirm the Viet century-long's plan to annex Cambodia, and to also say that HUN SEN has handed Cambodia over to the Viet on a silver plate already, and long ago if one may add! Cambodian people need to understand something about Hun Sen! Hun Sen is nothing more than a tool use by great powers and at the end of his life and he will be discarded just like the rest of the previous Cambodian leaders! Hun Sen as a Cambodian leader is so irrelevant in this day in age because he is not equip to deal with the complex issues that are facing Cambodia today!
One thing is clear about Hun Sen is that he is so focus on political survival than on ruling Cambodia by law just like King Sihanouk his protégé! So when a Cambodian leader is so focus on political survival then ruling by law and sometime he or she can become paranoid and go crazy which can lead to dangerous side effect which will show up in the decision making!
No doubt that Hun Sen is winning so far for his own political survival because he uses the whole Cambodian government resources such as the financial, the court system, the police, and the military to kill his opponents! I never see this kind of winning as brilliant because it is all for personal gain! Oh well! What about winning over the Siem and the Viet in violation of Cambodian sovereignty, winning over poverty, winning over corruption, winning over illegal land grabbing, winning over the lack of job creation, the lack of housing...lack education…winning over all the things that can make Cambodian society functional and normal according to law and international standard!
I have no doubt the foreigners will waste no time in writing trashing Hun Sen’s legacy once he is sick feet under and Cambodian history will judge him the same way! I was a little shocked to hear someone in the position and status of prime minister boast about such claims. It makes the person seem to be more of a arrogant weasel than a dignified politician. But then again, this is Hun Sen and so I shouldn't feel too surprised.
I don't think Hun Sen should take up all the credit for the weakening of FUNCINPEC as a united opposition. The main solidarity breakers of FUNCINPEC are actually the royalists themselves. They've had a grand history of having upper level party officials pursuing strong personal interests and allowing those interests to take precedence before party priorities. As a result, there's always infighting and disagreements which ultimately secured the party to be in led into disarray when it came local and national level elections.
For the most part, the royalists of FUNCINPEC fell into their grave dug their own graves that they dug themselves and the CPP just managed to have that advantage of burying them while they were in it.
FUNCINPEC's ultimate road to demise is a lesson for other opposition parties to learn from and not make those same mistakes.
The scary thing is this:
Hun Sen already legitmizes, legalizes, naturalizes those Viets that have been entering Cambodia after all these times according to the secret agreement that HUN Sen has signed with the Viet. These newly naturalized Khmer-Viet will constitute almost the majority of the number of the vote HUN SEN ever needs at any given time for any election for HUN SEN to win already.
One will see in the very near future that HUN SEN does not have to even resort to political intimidation or anything of that sort anymore. He will have all the legitimate legal systems nationally or otherwise on his side and there isn't a damn thing anybody can do about it.
If one were to do something, one has to do it now - remove that Viet HUN SEN now!!!

Let's first hear about the strategies of the opposition parties on how they would deal with the Siams and the Viets. Then, let's compare these strategies with the ones from CPP.
There is a view that that corrupt and feudal mentality has been deeply embedded in the psyches of most Cambodians. The officials who works in the government and military will no overnight switch to be the idealistic individual citizen or civil servants that most here have fantasized.
The Viets will be a force to deal with just as much as the Siams no matter who is in charge of Cambodia. All these neighbors must move beyond historical bickerings and work together for the betterment of all the citizen of each respective country. Europeans did it, so it is possible for South East Asians to do it, too.
And for the statement that says, HS is put there by the Viets, there also could be said that Sihanouk was put there by the French, Lon Nol by the US, and Pol Pot by China. When you are a small and less powerful country, there will always be pressures and persuasion from bigger and stronger powers. Hypothetically, if SR won and became a Cambodian PM, could it then be said that without Global Witness and the European Union, he was a nobody?
Cambodia is still poor, no doubt, but there have been improvements as well.

Only then, try your best to provide the public the facts and let public judge the facts. Those behind ugly works can not hide their faces. Do not fake the facts. This would gain strong support. When you have support, try to teach the public more about history and the pride Khmers, how king Survarman was able to reunite Khmers. Khmers live in every country starting from Burma to Khmer Krom. If you are able to reunite them, we can protect the country from any invasion.

I still believe, FUNCINPEC equally contributed to its own demise, with other half of the credit goes to HS on his strategies and maneuvers. It is really easier to focus, label, and attack on the indidual than to have a better understanding of a message.
