Dateline SBS (Australia)

It's Australia Day at Ambassador Margaret Adamson's residence.

REPORTER: Are you concerned that violent and illegal evictions are going on on the doorstep of the new Australian embassy?

MARGARET ADAMSON, AMBASSADOR TO CAMBODIA: Well, Of course we have concerns about how the Cambodian Government manages the issue of land tenure. It's a long-standing issue in the country and we have concerns which we express to the Cambodian Government on a regular basis.

REPORTER: This was right on the doorstep of the new Australian embassy, so it must be... doubly embarrassing for you at this stage, no?

MARGARET ADAMSON: I'm conscious of the location. .. I don't find it embarrassing, no. I find it a matter as I've said before to you, that is a matter which is played out in different parts of the country, so I don't see find on the doorstep of the Australian embassy any less deserving of our attention than anywhere else in the country.

REPORTER: Under the 2001 law, don't they have residency rights or possession rights?

MARGARET ADAMSON: It's very difficult to prove, though, isn't it? It's very difficult to prove...

REPORTER: If they've been there for longer than five years noticeably without violence... I understand what you say.

MARGARET ADAMSON: Absolutely. Absolutely. No, I understand what the principles are, but it is difficult indeed to actually have the documentation, documentation that is accepted, to enable those claims to be respected.

She is jus a foreigner ambassador and why do we target her?

It is Hun Sen problem. He should resolve not others.

If you see other family members fight stay away from it before they may shoot you.

yes, anyone of us who are college educated can understand what would happen if left to unruly people to decide the daily tasks of gov't. it would be like the KR regime again for sure! that's why we have the rule of laws, and that's what cambodia desperately needs now and future to come, and everyone civilised countries on the planet can help, really! thank and and god bless cambodia.

yes, as a khmer person, i can say that in cambodia one has to be awary of dirty political bickering game whose people will try to take advantage of the situation, of course, for their own political ambition. yes, please watch out for unruly people. in the western society and countries, only evidence matters in the court of law, and cambodia should adopt this concept as well. thank you.

I think the position that the foreign embassies, not just Australian embassy, took regarding the numerous inhuman evictions were just pathetic. What happened at Dey Kroham was an example. We didn't hear any embassies, including the US embassy, made any representation to Cambodian govt. or directly to Hun Sen. These days all countries, especially the U.S, want to work with Cambodia for their own benefits at the expense of the Cambodian poor. The U.S wants Cambodian cooperation on terrorism and get soft on human right abuses in Cambodia. How sad.

Nonsense, the poor people don't have any money for her to scam. It's just a waste of her time.

On the other hand, Pouk Ah Scam Rainxy can get a few votes from it, but it's still not going to do them any good because they don't know how to run anything. Cambodia will certainly to go to hell again if they manage to win the election by some miracle.

She has never been poor and bullied, so she doesn't understand the suffering of those people. She is contradicting the policy set by the Australia government...she will be blamed by her boss at home..

This what I mean "Cambodia is a weak state with a strongman" who cannot control evil persons from bullying the weak and poor people. Many scholars call this state "predatory state".

That strongman is the spearhead permitting and doing all these evils.

The power and the elites make their living at the expenses of the poor, the weak, the indigenous people, and the national asset...etc

Those powerful men and elites are earning their living like the thieves.

How can anyone make a living at the expense of the poor? The poor has no wealth to rob.

Don't listen to Ah Khmer-Yuon's (KY) nonsense.

Strongman in a weak state is what it take to make the state strong, not weak man in a weak state. Weakman can only make everyone suffer.
