Cambodia Wednesday highlighted its determination to increase trade exchange and other cooperation with Russia.
"The two-way trade reached about 21 million U.S. dollars in 2008, around seven times the amount in 2004, and both sides will strive to realize more volumes," Kuy Kong, spokesman and under secretary of state at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, told reporters.
He made these remarks right after Hor Nam Hong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Russian Ambassador Valery Y. Tereshchenko, who will finish his term in Cambodia soon.
Meanwhile, the Russian investment in Cambodia is worth about 600 million U.S. dollars, said Kuy Kong.
Except for political, economic and trade cooperation, the two countries are also carrying out military and cultural exchange, he said, adding that Russia will help train human resources for Cambodia.
In addition, the Russian Interior Ministry and the Cambodian Anti-drug Authority signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly crack down on drug trafficking, according to the spokesman.
Cambodia established diplomatic relations with Russia in 1993.
