Dear Editor,
I read with puzzlement the article in your newspaper titled "Sihanouk lashes out King Father's tirade ignores historical recordat journalist's war" (April 21,2009). However, I was not surprised at all to hear the former king's tirade against all those who dare criticising him. What is most incredible is the notion that Sihanouk thinks that he is right all the time.
Can he be right when he was an adversary to the Khmer Rouge during the 1960s, then turned to become their ally in the 1970s and 1980s?
Can he be right when he was against Hun Sen and the Vietnamese in the 1980s when he was leading the national resistance movement against the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia, then now he turned to become a close ally of Hun Sen and thanked Vietnam for "liberating" Cambodia?
Can anybody smart enough give me an answer to these questions?

I agree with you that Sihanouk has alway confused himself. He has no integrity, no credibility and no reliability at all. Since he has led Cambodia, he has led many Cambodian leaders to fight to each other by guessing his agenda. He has alway supported the strong group regardless good or bad for his own family and his own immage. He has led Cambodia into the ground level at the end 1979. Can Americans be right when they fought the Chinese Communist and now having a close trade with them, Can they be right when they fought the Vietcong, and now working with them.
Can they even be right when they support the Khmer Rough to fight the Hun Sen regim but now having closer tier with them (even now more US war ships have been visiting Cambodia).
Have they been right, when they were actively supporting Samrainsy and now look abandoned them.
This is just about politic. You live in the US so your view and perception just be narrowed by the system and the culture you think it is right to you.

Is an Economist a Politician? How long has he ever lived in Cambodia? He does not know enough his own Khmer history when asked by the US ambassador to write Khmer history why Khmers hate the Vietnamese so much? Isn't he being self-righteous instead of King Sihanouk?
He wouldn't happen to have the statistical evidence for that, would he?

There's a huge difference between having an economist to write us the history and having a historian.

Lok Om Dr. Tith is a pro US but he supports Maxist Socilaist-Communist, Obama.
King Ta Sihanouk doesn't know Economics, but Politics I believe he does well, and Lok Om Dr. Tith cannot understand politics, I doubt he does. How much does he know what is inside Cambodia besides yelling from the US?
I wonder if he sees how American politicians keep switching their parties? Recently Arlen Specter of PA just switched from Rep to Dem.
The answer to that is not Sihanouk's fault, it is the Cambodian people's fault. They love their King to their death and never wanted to change. Even now,to this day, old generation is still seeing King Norodom Sihanouk as their God Father. On the other hand, I hope Cambodian people will pick their next leaders who truly love Cambodia over dollar.

Smart enough or enough explanation could be long and longer than expected, when comes into the explanation about the politics, especially in Cambodia. Admiring your say about Sihanouk published in The Cambodia Daily. However, I would suggest you to reconsider who would provide you the fair answer in that environment, particularly when the argument against the leaders of the ruling party. The fair argument is often pro and con. This can be made possible only when it is in the right environment.
I am neither pro Sihanouk nor other leaders. But when seeing your remark, it is slightly unrealistic. The debate about politic needs the public sphere where people from all walks of life taken part. I am still scratching my head whether you are medical Doctor or Doctorate graduated.
Last but not least, are you trying to suck up your boss in a bid to get the promotion?

Sihanouk is responsible for all Khmer problems in the pass. He is one of the most self center, ignorance, and uneducated individual. Sihanouk's politic is driven by greed for power and a stupid thrown. Having said that, he has a lot of those Khmers "frog in the pond" that still beleiving in him. For this reason, that is why Hun Sen is still continue to use him for his political gain.
Sihanouk has betrayed Buddha,since 1970 I saw by my eyes,he let enter Vietcong in Cambodia.We need all old Doctor to joint Dr Kiri to find out the truth,we don't need to kill each other any more.
Khmer need peace,Independence and Real Justice.

I have to agree with 8:26 PM and also Dr. Kiri.
- Sihanouk was born king, so he's always thought that he's been a perfectionist. I don't think he knows what's a real life is. During his regime many people were brainwashed by his propoganda and ideology, so he became a god-king. This leads to the next view point.
- It also makes sense, on a surface, to say that Cambodians are at fault because they support their king no matter what (brainwashed).
However, many Cambodian people under Sihanouk administration were victims of their ignorance. This is not really their fault. They did their best to support their rulers hoping for peace and prosperity. Many people including my parents were not educated enough to know what was going on during Sihanouk's regime. That's understandable. What I don't understand is that there are many educated people in Cambodia and around the world are still faithful to the King. They would support him to their death. To me this is dangerous. It is parallel to what happens in the Cambodia now. Many people I know don't like Hun Sen, but they support him anyway beacause they think that nobody is better. This is also dangerous.
After 1979, I don't trust no one even God. They are a bunch of bull shits, crappy and smelly mouth. All of them are liars, pathological liars. Period!!!!
Cambodia is lucky enuogh to have this piece of land stand since she has her house full with all of jerk, penny, and maroon politicians. If these jerks stood to lead this land at the 18th or
19th century, there would have been no Cambodia site on world map.
Pardon me, I just want to exhale.

Some of you and Senior Tith who are anti King Sihanouk are clueless. If your arguments failed to grasp the significance of this fastest breeding demographic group Vietnamese in Cambodia since 17th and 1900's, your arguments are not important.
The majority of Cambodian people today are not the Cambodian people in your past dream. Some of you failed to understand their facts of life. You keep trying to buck their facts of life, Cambodia would be falling faster.

More children of Generals married to the Vietnamese in Vietnam. Those Vietnamese came to Cambodia with new ID's and said they are Khmers. Their family Physicians are in Vietnam. At least Hun Sen and his family memebrs do.

i think the ex-king is not used to be criticized. i guess that's part of being a monarch or from a royal family, attitude is everything for a royal person, you know. that's why sometime they forbid a royal from participating in politics for this very reason. i think royal family should stay separate from politics permanently in cambodia. this way the people will love and respect royal more and more when they show the subjects that they are royal. god bless cambodia and the royal family.

King Sihanouk is the dumbest king in the entire Cambodian history. He let the viets and French fool him. He sided with the Khmer rouge after 1975 to get rid of khmer intellectuals. Karma has caught up with Sihanouk.
