The clash site is on Thai territory which was illegally occupied by Cambodian civilians, Mr. Tharit asserted. However, the Thai authorities are lenient for the sake of good relations between the two countries and for humanitarian reasons.
The ministry spokesman made the remarks following media reports that Cambodia asked Thailand to pay more than US$2 million (about Bt74 million) in compensation for damage allegedly caused by heavy weapons the Thai Army used during the border clash on April 3 near the ancient Preah Vihear (Phra Viharn) temple.
The Cambodian Foreign Ministry Monday sent a diplomatic note to Thailand, asking for the compensation. It said the gunfire destroyed 264 stands at a market in front of the Preah Vihear temple, affecting 319 Cambodian households.
The Thai foreign ministry will send a letter to Cambodia to reaffirm its stance on the issue, the spokesman said, noting that Thailand had earlier clearly asserted that the area in question belongs to Thailand.
Asked if Thailand would seek compensation from Cambodia for damage on the Thai side, Mr. Tharit said the Ministry’s Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs is looking into how to proceed with the matter.
The disputed area, which surrounds the ancient temple, has long been a source of tension between the two countries.
An international court awarded Preah Vihear temple to Cambodia in 1962, but a 4.6-square km (1.9-square mile) parcel of land surrounding it remains the subject of territorial claims by the two neighbouring countries.

This is a ridiculous claim by Thailand. Thai said they accept the 1962 ruling but kept on misleading its people and fuel further conflicts. The market/village in question is connected to the Preah Vihear itself. I was able to witnessed the site of destroyed market myself. We have plenty of photos to prove of its proximity. Again, an intentional bombing of a village constitute war crime and the Cambodian government must seeks the Security Council and the ICC investigation into this.

Make no mistake that the world court had rendered its decision regarding Preah Vihear in 1962. If Thailand refuses to pay for damages it has inflicted upon Cambodian civilians on Cambodian soil, Cambodia has the right to take Thailand to the world court once again. "Once a thief always a thief, mind as well pack all your belongings back to Nan Chao." Phnom Penh should ask the Thai embassy personel to leave...and shut the Thai embassy down for good!

Back then king Seyhanouk had all the power, popularity and was incharged. Every body respected him from Khmer perspective and the international community perspective. If I were him I would use this power and popularity to declare to the world community that the Khmer people still under the supression, aggression of Youn and Seam. In doing so, his reputations and credibility will be installed next to the Great Khmer King Jayavarman VII.
In the case of Kampuchea Krom, if we use this exact models we Khmer will once again liberated Kampuchea Krom from the Youn iron grips.And possibly Khmer Krom can declare their independent or reannexed to Cambodia who knows.
