Phnom Penh - A high-ranking Cambodian police official detained a group of teenage boys for having long hair and forcibly cut their stylish locks to a "more appropriate length," national media reported Wednesday. Thol Yuthear, chief of anti-trafficking police in the north-western town of Battambang, said he detained the three high school students aged 15 to 18 outside after spotting them outside the local police station, The Cambodia Daily reported.
He said he cut a section of hair from each students' head, forcing them to head to a barbershop to have their new haircuts evened out.
"Morals in society nowadays are becoming difficult because school standards and parental care is limited, and that has caused students to act like this," Thol Yuthear said.
He said the boys' long locks and coloured highlights were inappropriate and school students should be forced to wear their hair closely-cropped.

I am lenient toward the government on many stands but this is just stupid. Yea, preserving the tradition is necessary but Khmer need to learn what evolution means. It seems like the old Khmer people just want everything to be old costume oriented. That is why I will probably go live far from home when I finish school. I love my family and all but if they are to force me to follow all these "proper" way of doing things, I'm out of here.
Rebellion and to be noticeable is part of adlocescence and growing up.
It's not a moral issue or problem.Officer needs to learn how to distinguish evil and evil doers.
Long hair or colored hair happened every generation and possibly in every culture.
Stop making a log out of a speck, in fact, police officers are evils and evil doers in Cambodia today.
This is just plain dumb. To teach kids about upholding traditional values while at the same time becoming progressive and adapting to a a changing world, the Cambodian police officers should do something that will teach these kids what is right and what is wrong with Cambodian society. That is, TO ARREST CORRUPTED GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND MILITARY OFFICERS AND MAKE SURE THAT THESE EVIL INDIVIDUALS GO THROUGH A SYSTEM OF COURTS THAT IS NON-BIASED TOWARDS ANY POLITICAL LEANINGS AND IS NOT CORRUPTED ITSELF.
It is only when they see individuals such as their idiotic prime minister Hun Sen conduct himself, the kids will emulate and bring down the rest of Cambodia's society with them.
