Win with Women: A struggle for change
Poverty in Cambodia is caused by the failure of the government to combat corruption. The national budget allocated for the social sector – including health, education and rural development – is lost every year, thus putting human lives at great risk of neglect, deprivation and exposure to violence. Among the victims of neglect, deprivation and violence are women, female youths and children because of gender inequalities, discrimination and extreme forms of abuse such as sexual abuse, rape and trafficking. Victims of violence are usually deprived of justice as the process of legal action against their perpetrators is long, complicated, intimidating, and usually obstructed by a corrupt judiciary system. Impunity rate and court misconduct persist and victims receive little protection.
The Sam Rainsy Party, as the lead opposition in Cambodia , has lent a voice to the democratic movement that no longer can wait for promises made by the government. From farmers defending their land, to ethnic minorities marching to the provincial towns to demand cancellation of illegal concessions of community forests, to workers demanding fair wages, the opportunity for change from the bottom up is a phenomenon that is not possible to ignore. The opposition has made its presence felt.
Founded in February 1998, the Sam Rainsy Party Women’s Wing has helped increase the number of women SRP party members who have been elected to Parliament from only 1 woman MP in 1998, to 3MPs in 2003 and to 6 MPs in 2008. In 2006, the party elected Ms. Mu Sochua as Secretary General, the highest party position ever held by a woman in Cambodia in a political party. The current SG is a prominent woman MP from Siem Reap, a province with many challenges. In 2002, SRP Women’s Wing made gains at the local level with 46 of their members elected and in 2007, the number jumped to 269. In 2009, 42 women gained seats at the sub-national election.
The Women’s Wing will work to continue to encourage women’s leadership, empower women, and foster a paradigm shift towards gender responsive, transformative leadership, politics and good governance in preparation for the upcoming 2012 and 2013 election.
Over 300 women elected commune chiefs, deputies and councilors will join the party leadership at the national level to commemorate the 6th Annual Congress of the Women’s Wing.
Under the theme Win with Women: A Struggle for Change, SRP women activists, supporters and leaders will receive and understand information pertaining to leadership, women’s rights, and Legal Education. A core group of SRP women leaders at all levels will be selected to undergo this 3-year training program to prepare for the 2012 local election and the 2013 national election.
The Sam Rainsy Party Women’s Wing will provide this training in order to meet the following goals:

It is interesting that the party eventually decides it can no longer wait for the government to do the right thing. Not many knew it had been waiting in all these past years.
So watch out, CPP. Here come the SRP women (the men have proved hopeless).

So what you're saying is that the SRP women are manlier than the pansy SRP men? lol so many Sam Rainsy should step down and let MC take the presidency instead. I doubt that will happen bc Sam Rainsy, despite how much he talks about the status quo, has the desire to cling onto power himself. I mean come on the party is named after himself. A little egotistical there? So does that mean the party dissolve after him? It means it's all about himself and no one else. Let's see what happens if you try to take his spot. You'll see how nice Sam Rainsy ;)
12:48 AM , you only read news that have been reported by the government or the government supporters , that's why you didn't know when it started
there are a few CPP supporters here doing anything they can to make CPP look good and other parties look bad. it's nothing new about it . they have been barking since day one but according to what I have seen , SRP has been bigger and bigger every election.
If you any love for the Khmer people at all, then you understand the SRP. Seriously, quit sucking the Viets' dicks will you?
12:48am, I think, you shoul read more articles that talk about Human Right, then you know the value of women.
I think, everyone was born from the MOTHER.
If you hate women, it means that you hate your MOTHER.
So please, love her!!!!!!!!
I totally agreed with 2:27 AM, SRP should be Girly or Lesbian Party, all men member should aware of that and move out to other party like CPP, if so I fully support. If SRP do as the article said, many NGOs who are working on gender issue should close your office and find other job to do, becuase SRP take lead such work already...
Khmer
Hummm.... The men is down. Men is useless!!! Now it's time to take advantage from women by raising the bar ( I mean raising the women) instandly.
Wish this strategy will work. But It might not last long.
the fight for anti-corruption law must go on until the country get satisfied with the outcome. anti-corruption law is as important to demand as the freedom of speech or expression. everybody must make demand for this law to pass. otherwise, khmer people cannot have justice. it is not fair for leaders whom the public entrusted to lead cheated on the people by pocketing money from the state. it's not fair for poor people, the disabled, the handicapped, the disadvantaged, the ordinary people and so forth. money from tax, custom, etc can be put to use in improving public services, building better infrastructure in the country, put into social welfare of the people, etc, etc... it is time for gov't to be accountable and transparent and stop robbing your own country and people! hello, everyone must make demand for reform. cambodia and khmer people deserve better than this, especially after too many years of suffering and hardship. we cannot continue to allow gov't official to steal from the state anymore. enough is enough already!
1:50 AM
I don't really know if you forget or you pretend to forget about SRP's name history.
SRP original name was CHEAT KHMER PARTY(KHMER NATION PARTY).
Ask your boss,Mr. Hun Sen, what else did he do with SRP's name in order to crash this party about 10 years ago?
He did not only try to hack SRP's ex-name, but also its logo.
1:50AM CHANGES TO 2:27 AM
sorry to make a note, but this srp party can't seem to even get their own house in order, thus it is questionable for them to lead the country with only a handful of their self-proclaimed politician. i wonder. go figure! don't be surprised if people lose confidence and lose trust in this party and company. hello, wake up already! even they too need reforms as well. stop barking up the wrong tree already! it's time for self-re-examination! thank you.
2:27 AM
"I mean come on the party is named after himself."
What you said show that you don't know Cambodian politic and you criticize Sam Rainsy.
The CPP Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime's kangaroo court operate the same way. Prosecute innocent Khmer peoples without evidence.
To Ah 8:08 AM, you're support CPP Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime who is killing innocent Khmer peoples, do me a favor don't ever tell anyone that you are Khmer, because you make Khmer peoples look bad.
