Norodom Sihanouk, Cambodia’s Hero-King, talked about the resistance to demand independence from colonial France. At the same time, the ex-monarch clearly confirmed that the CPP is the younger brother of the Sangkum Reastr Niyum (SRN) regime [Sihanouk’s party] and the CPP took on the SRN’s position since ever. In the morning of 21 August 2009, during a meeting session with elder citizens at the Siem Reap royal palace, the ex-monarch said that he fought hard to wrestle independence from colonial France and his crusade started in Siem Reap province in 1949, then it went on the Kampong Thom, Battambang … until he received complete victory in 1953.
The ex-king added: “In 1951, 1952, 1953, I had the great honor to start the royal crusade the independence, to liberate our nation and our country, and we accomplished as our Kaun-Chao (children and grandchildren) hoped, i.e. we received full independence for our nation and our country in November 1953. Following several months of peaceful negotiations, France, which held its colonial rule over the kingdom of Cambodia, saw that our people, both young and old, all followed King Norodom Sihanouk, and they cannot be stopped. So they lifted their colonial rule from Cambodia in 1953 following peaceful negotiations between Cambodia and France and the transfer of total power to King Norodom Sihanouk.”
The ex-king said that since then, there was no French troops’ presence in Cambodia anymore, there was only French ambassadors only, as well as ambassadors from other countries. Hero-King Sihanouk added, since then on, we started to build the nation in all fields, and we never stopped. And up until now, under the alert leadership of Samdach Akkok Moha Sena Batdey Dek Cho Hun Xen, Samdach Akkok Moha Ponhea Chakrey Heng Xamrin, Samdach Akkok Thomak Pothisal Chea Xim who are leading the CPP, as well as all the other leaders, they continue the lineage of the SRN which, he, the ex-king, led in the past.
The ex-king said that he is announcing in great pomp that the CPP is the direct younger brother of the SRN for its preservation of prosperity, well being to the people, as well as the progress in all fields of national construction, and the CPP defended the country with victory since ever. At the same time, the CPP also preserved the independence which existed under the SRN by preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity – our heritage – for the future of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
It should be noted that Hero-King Sihanouk repeatedly recalled about the history of the CPP struggle, and his speech [about this issue] took place since he returned back from China recently.

Some flee riverbank erosion

The new construction site of a house in Koh Nirouth falls Thursday into the lower Mekong River.
AUTHORITIES in Nirouth commune have called on families in Koh Nirouth village to vacate their homes on the Tonle Bassac and lower Mekong riverbanks in response to rapid erosion due to flooding.
But the families of several high-ranking officials who live in the village have vowed to stay in their homes and have asked the government to help them stave off further erosion.
"Almost every day, strips of land 2 metres wide and 200 metres long are falling into the water," said commune chief Sam Phon, forcing poor families away from the riverbank.
Nhek Chhon, the Koh Nirouth village chief, said the poor families had moved to new homes in the centre of the village, adding that some had already sold their riverfront land to wealthier families.
He said some of the wealthy families' homes were also in danger of falling into the river.
Nhek Chhon suggested that the rich families were being tightfisted by asking for state assistance. "I think that they are worried about their second
homes collapsing into the water, but they don't want to pay their own money," he said.
But Sam Phon said local authorities did not have the funds to construct a barrier.
"We can stop the riverbank collapsing if we build the brick barrier to protect the homes from the current, but now we have no money to construct it," he said.

Get Hun Sen ( the viet puppet ) out of there we will be there to rebuild the country and restore democracy .
I know that Sihanouk just does Hun Sen a favore because Hun Sen saved his ass from being locked up in jail according to what he had done to Khmer people while he joined the Khmer Kouge . Educated people know exactly that Sihanouk doesn't mean what he say about Hun Sen and CPP because Sihanouk hates Viet and Hun Sen is a Viet puppet.
I meet a lot of students from China (Peking, shanghai,.."). Those tell me King Sihanouk is not serving for Khmer people. Thier argument is:
1. if Cambodia has Problem, he must must stay in cambodia, why he flee the country to China, N Korea?
Somdech Taa has played his role as the "ah lii hov" in Cambodian folk lore very perfectly...
Any one can tell more about the characteristic of Ah Lii Hov?
If one understands--or at least has some familiarity of Cambodian poitics--the former king's internal politics, and then he/she will understand his astuteness nature of his politics.

In reference to Chinese history, Sihanouk acted the same thing. He'll be ashamed to0 see his Trasak Pha'em ancestors in the HELL to loose his khmer throne because of him. So he did, does, and will do everything, liking Ah Hunn Sen and Hanoi butt, sold Cambodia in exchange for this Monkey Throne. It won't be last, as Viets had done the samething in Champa. Cambodia will be a second Champa in the near future. She will cease as a Country, as a Nation, but a State of Viet Indochinese Federation.

Here are the last 7 Khmer Provinces that Thai has controlled recently and need to give back to Cambodia once day in the future, These Provinces are already claimed by General Lon Nol in 1974, and after the statistic in 1974, there have 14 millions khmer people in Thailand, there have now around 30 millions Khmer People today live in Thailand,

Mean Te Anh (I am the only one) attitude is the mentality of all khmer leaders, and that include Sihanouk, Lon Nol, Pol Pot, and Hun Sen. They never learned from history and never listen to anybody except themselves. Khmer has tendency of fighting each others. When that happened, one side would go to Yuon (and China for Pol Pot) and another side go Siam for help even though each knew that help is not free. At the end Khmer is the only one who lost. As one Khmer, I am losing confidence in khmer leaders and I have no hope that Cambodia will survive to face with Thai and Vietnamese's ambition.
I don't drink but , if Sihanouk die tomorrow or whenever , I will be drunk just to celebrate his death . Sihanouk is a slave of China Hun Sen is a slave of Vietnam. They are all the same . Sihanouk says the ruling party is the "younger sibling" to his own Sangkum Reastr Niyum party of the 1950s. This is proof that Shanouk was serving Vietminh and Vietcong and CPP since CPP birth in 1951.
