PHNOM PENH — A Cambodian court on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a US man to 10 years in prison for soliciting sex with a 14-year-old Vietnamese girl, a judge said.
Michael James Dodd, 60, from Washington DC, was arrested in October last year while staying with the girl at his rented house in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
"I sentenced the US man to 10 years in jail for soliciting sex from the 14-year-old girl," Judge Chan Madian of Phnom Penh Municipal Court told AFP.
The judge also ordered Dodd to pay 5,000 dollars in compensation to the victim.
Dozens of foreigners have been jailed for child sex crimes or deported to face trial in their home countries since Cambodia launched an anti-paedophilia push in 2003 to try to shake off its reputation as a haven for sex predators.

The judge should learn to say: “The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of prison”, or “The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years of prison” etc.
“I sentenced …” is just another example of typical Khmer character who incorrectly thinks that she or he is the law, rather than the law enforcer.
Maybe in the future he have enough balls to say, "I sentence you, Hun Sen, to prison for the crime against humanity in the Kingdom". How would you like those words then? I dont care how he says it, for as long as the laws is enforced. One more thing, there seems to be a lot of Viets prostitutes in Cambodia.
“I sentenced ….”. This phrase reminds me of a clown working as a judge at the Hun Sen military court. That clown read a verdict: “I, Ney Tol, ….”
It just shows that these clowns act as if they were the laws instead of being agents applying the laws.
There is a huge difference between being the law and the law enforcer. A person who thinks he is the law will inevitably become abusive. Dictators, tyrants and corrupted officials think of themselves as the laws and as such change the laws as they see fit to suit their personals gains and interests. A law enforcer, on the other hand, diligently and fairly applies the laws as they were written, regardless of his personal interests or feelings.
He learn from PAPA Sihanouk and HUN SEN .

Ok, we get the message.
again, if it is so illegal in their own country to do this, i wonder what make them so sure that they can get away doing illegal thing like this in cambodia? go figure! no excuses is allowed whatsoever! they should know better!
A soliciting sex with a 14-year-old Vietnamese girl, is not apply to Cambodia guru laws ( maybe a trapped by vietnamese to collect more US Dollars).
Judge should gave this old bastard atleast 25 year! so, he can retire in jail for good...Make sure given him a bowl of rice soup once a day only!
And on the same page of the Cambodian Daily we read of Khmer men having sex with 6 year old children and many rape cases in the provinces
hey, don't think khmer men is getting away with it as well! law is law, so, stop making excuses, please! anybody can get arrest for doing it! we don't care even if they are related to donald trump or whatever!
