The ministry of Tourism indicated that there is a 78% drop in the number of Cambodians traveling overseas for the first six months of 2009, when compared to the same period last year. Kong Sophearak, director of the statistics and information department of the ministry of Tourism, told The Phnom Penh Post on Thursday that during the first six months of 2009, there are 146,056 less Cambodians traveling overseas, in comparison, there were 668,555 Cambodians traveling abroad during the same period in 2008. Kong Sophearak indicated that this drop could be attributed to the influence of the economic crisis and the political upheavals in neighboring countries, as well as the creation of a large number of tourist zones in Cambodia. Ang Kim Ieng, president of the Cambodian Travel Agency Association, indicated that the sharp drop of the number of Cambodians traveling overseas started when Thailand, the leading visiting place for Cambodians, faced political problems and also because of the swine flu spread. He said that, last year, Cambodians used to travel to Thailand, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, but, currently, they are staying in Cambodia because of the swine flu fear.

Swine flu kills less people than one eyed hyena. The truth is the cambodian economy is in a tailspin and the blind dictator is playing hardball with a "tough woman" promising his guards will contro phnom penh in 2 hours, while the country is facing hardship.

It's the economy, stupid (HS).

Stop downplaying and sugarcoating the situation.

Peasant uprising is imminent. In fact, once the peasant revolution begins, it will take you (HS) more two hours.

Preah Vehear is one set back for me not going to visit cambodia. I am just afraid the war. Secondly swine flu, they might turn the whole airplane back to where I start. Thirdly, I have unpleasant experienced at the airport. The workers harassed me for money so badly at the passport check point and the check in. Hopefully all these thing will change and make travel easier in the future.

12:33 AM,

8:25 PM is also a Khmer who has a right to be in Cambodia.

Are you sure you never visit the hookers there in Cambodia?

Are you a monk? Do you think everyone who goes to Cambodia goes there for sex? You are sick!!!

You call people who visit Cambodia sex tourists. Tell me what we should call you who live in Cambodia and exploit the women there on a daily basis.

Don't judge lest you shall be judged and found to be worse.

12:33 is a very sick person. His or her comment does not make any sense. He does not use his brain to think before he make any comment. He think only sex. What an idiot.

It sounds like 12:33AM is the head of mafia who run the Pochentong airport.

See! when you don't like to pay them, they accuse you of being crimnal instead of offering to clean-up their craps.

They afraid of catching swine flu so they choose to get bird flu, malaria, unsanitary related illnesses instead. Sounds like a dead trap to me. What's a spin.

CAMBODIA IS BETTER OFF WITH SWINE FLU THEN SEN FLU.
SWINE FLU COMES AND GO, WHEREAS SEN FLU; CONTINUOSLY VAPORIZING AT AN ALARMING RATE.

I've experience the same thing at the airport. The costume officer take about 10 to 15 minutes to examine your passport; like the pictures going to change any minute.
Sadly, I have to cough out $10 to expedite this process.
Or hurry up and wait.

i think it is smart and the right thing for khmer to stay local during hard economic time. i'm sure everyone else is doing the same all over the world. so, it shouldn't be a big deal with cambodia. god bless cambodia
