On Wednesday 06 August, opposition MP Khim Lucky sent a letter to the minister of Commerce, asking the latter to take the appropriate measures to control the use of chemical products in foodstuff.

According to Khim Lucky, the anarchic use of chemical product on food sold in the kingdom’s markets affects public health. Food sellers use large amount of borax, formalin (aqueous solution of formaldehyde), sodium hydrosulfite and even pesticides.

“According to research conducted, these products could bring serious health problem to the consumers. If no measures are taken, our citizens will soon face a major sanitary problem,” Khim Lucky warned.

No need to control the use of chemical products in foodstuff because most of cambodians are already affected by these chemical substances. The most needed is to survey how much money the patients pay for doctors and medicines and what various kind of new diseases cambodians have so far.

It is never good to use chemical product on any food we eat. The formaldehyde can cause leukemia(blood cancer) If possible use as little as possible or nothing at all. The farmers should wear musks to protect themselves. Or walk opposit direction while they spray their vegetables. Or opposit the wind blow. It help to limit the chemical on their skin. Ony a sugession.

It is silent killer. Cambodians spend millions in health care cost from these uncontrolled diseases. This is the money that could have been used for something else to improve the quality of life. Ordinary Cambodians do get affected from government inaction.

yes, khmer food growers in our country should be educated and be reminded not to use chemical to grow their food as it is unhealthy to their health, really. in other countries, they use chemical only for exporting their food as preservative and more lucrative for business, however for local consumption, we ought to understand aware of the danger it cause to our health. it's good to make everyone aware of this danger. education about it is important for everyone. please go organic, it's better for healthy living, etc... thank you.
