Chheang Vun, the chairman of the National Assembly’s committee for foreign affairs and international cooperation, broadcasting and information, said that he want the population to pay a tax to the government for using radio and TV sets, and he is also pushing the ministry of Information to make the request to Hun Xen again about this issue. During a discussion meeting with a delegation from the ministry of Information led by Khieu Kanharith, the minister of Information, in the afternoon of 22 September at the National Assembly, to listen to reports on difficulties and growth of the information development in Cambodia, Chheang Vun pushed the ministry of Information to send another letter to Hun Xen to ask for a tax levy for the use of radio and TV sets, and Chheang Vun said that he will provide help on this issue from the National Assembly side. He added that he believes that the people who use radio and TV currently, have the ability to pay this tax to the government, because, the livelihood of people has changed and grown, and he also said that people living in every country pay tax to their government for the use of radio and TV sets also.

This man is an idiot. All legislation should be debated in the parliament and be approved the parliament. But this man has proposed a legislation to be approved by Prime Minister. What an idiot to lead a country like this. At the same time, he should propose for land tax, income tax for all properties transactions instead of radio and TV. The tax for these two items have been gone for many countries already. If Cambodia continue to have these kind animals to lead the country, Cambodia will be become a farm of animals.

Bravo, Chheang Vun! He usually sleeps during Assembly Meeting, when he wakes up he has a very good idea.

Excellency Chheang Vun, as an MP you should pick up issues of top priority and not petty things like levying tax on using radio and TV. Believe it or not it is a sure-fire recipe for disaster, destability if you like. Just look at the people reaction to tax on motorbikes recently in Sihanouk province and elsewhere. If this is what you want, by all means pls go ahead. Please be more attuned to people's concerns and well-being.

Oh! chheang Vun, big brother! how terrible your suggestion is. he was ambassador for Australia. And he used to live in France where govt collects taxes through this revenue. Is it relevant procedure and relevant time and issue to raise?.

You are not wrong, after he had a dream, ideas will come up as a flash. He should be once again, recycle and service ATM machine as he claimed for his profession.

I bet they are now in a team,Chheang Vun,Theam bun Srun and sucker Sek Sam iet(alias Sek Sam Oy, sleazy bastard).

As mentioned, land tax, luxury tax, goods tax, services tax, gambling tax, road tax, real estate tax, karaoke tax, brothel tax...and plenty more but not TV tax, let the farmers enjoy some recreation and learn some news.Unless these taxes mentioned have already escaped to the substitude salary and into fat cat pockets.

Sir, they're--the CPP heavyweights--not only un-Cambodian leaders, they're worth less than animals; these leaders are comparable to flatworms. These animals were not qualified to lead Cambodia and its people, but they had done everything in their power and forced themselves in power with the absence of the people approval--these are irrefutable facts.

It's ricdiculous indeed that there are too many one-star, two-star, and three-star generals in a small country like Cambodia. It's about fifteen times more than in the 60's and 70's. This excludes Hun Sen's personal bodyguars.

Why Hun Sen promoted his officers, some of whom are not ecademically trained, to a ridiculous number?

1- He promoted the other officers, so he can promote his own son without being criticized by them.

2-When his son reaches the rank of a three-star general, he will become a military commander-in-chief of the country.

3-When his son become a commander-in-chief, Hun Sen will slowly turn Cambodia into a military-ruled country.

4-When Cambodia become a military-ruled country, Hun Sen families and his clique will be the sole owners of our motherland.

There is no doubt about why Hun Sen has too many bodyguards to protect him: it's because he wants to stay in stolen power until he fulfils his plan. Hus Sen has extravagantly spent the national budget for the above purpose, and this is a real waste of it.

To stop this blind mad dog from fulfilling his goal, which is not at all for the interest of the country nor benificial to Khmer people, all freedom-loving Khmers living inside and outside of the country must be unite and resolute in our endeavour to peacefully challenge to Hun Sen's betryal step before it's too late.

Up with the people!
Down with the dictator!

We don't mind paying tax, but where does the tax money goes? Is it inside CPPs pockets or something???

Hun Sen and his colleagues won't pay taxes not even a penny. They are tax-free everything free 24/7.

They use free gas for their car. All of their family members got free gas.

I think we, at least, should ask Thida's father--the Lt. Gen. in charge of fuel--he'll give you all the list of those names who receive free fuel. However, first and foremost, you'll need to put a chemical bullet into his forehead first.

JUST WANT TO KNOW WHICH COUNTRY THAT GETS TAX FROM TV AND RADIO USERS?

Anonymous said...

You have to pay TAX for watching TV? is this guy on drugs?

Anonymous said...

If the government wants to tax TV users, it must have a government run TV station or radio station with no advertisements. This is done in Britain. BBC is sponsored by the government but is not run by the government. The government gets money from taxing TV users. However, in Cambodia, people are getting tired of being taxed. The government has to show taxpayers where their money is going if they want to tax people.

Khmer Innocent said...

This tax was already by some forms imposed on all the privately run mediums I guessed. It is up to them to whether pass this tax on to their audiences which I think all the privately-run mediums will never want to do so because it affects their own popularity and results in the shrinking of ads revenue.

If the government intents to tax on her own medium's frequency usage then please make sure that the content must be interesting enough to compete with others otherwise do not force people to pay that shit tax.

Cambodia should rather encourage her own people to engage with all possible sources of info then stopping them from doing so. This would educate the country population in social affair, ethicity, behaviors....... in order to reduce many crimes happening everyday due to the lack of knowledge, being fooled around, intimidation.....

This Chheang Vun guy ate at least 0.4kg of meat +++++++++ per meal (he claimed in the first NA session in 1993 to debate the MP's wage)that is why he has excellent idea.

Are you Crazy CPP MP Chheang Vun? All TV stations and Radio's in Cambodia are owned and controlled by the CPP. They mostly broadcast news about Hun Sen and CPP news only. Why should Cambodian people pay tax just to watch and listen to Hun Sen used profanity language against his critics almost on a daily basis. During my 3 weeks stay in Cambodia in 2005, I only turned the TV once and I almost vomit when listening to Hun Sen speech. I saddened by the fact that we have leader like him to represent Cambodia. TV's and Radio's in Cambodia are used by Hun Sen to promote himself and his party only.
