Dr. Chack Sakhonn visits Minnesota in a second times to meet her supporters and update the current situation in Cambodia and the Khmer Mchas Srok‘s policy. On September 26. 2009 at 2:00pm about 100 supporters came to listen to her emotional speech and a presentation of real tragic pictures from Cambodia.
On her speech, Dr. Sakhonn focused on the critical issues that our people and nation are facing today: illegal immigrants, borders issues with neighboring countries, land grabbing by the powerful and rich, widespread corruption, national debt, unemployment, poverty, human rights violation, bias justice system, and unfair election.

Furthermore, Dr. Sakhonn accused Vietnam of trying to control Cambodia through the CPP puppet regime. She gave an example that the so-called Triangle Development Zone which contains 20 percent of Cambodia’s size and 30 percent of natural resources of the country but has only two hundred thousand Khmer population to joint with Vietnam’s 3 provinces that has more than 6 million population as a first step toward full Indochina Federation in the future.

At the end of her speech, Dr. Sakhonn appeal to all Khmers who live outside and inside the country to use their rights and voices as the Khmer Mchas srok to demand independence, sovereignty, and eternal peace for our nation, which guaranteed by the Paris Peace Accord in 1991.

If the major opposition parties could merge into one BIG PARTY, then there's a glimpse of HOPE to win the next ELECTIONS.

May Buddha bless the Khmer people.

I have said many times already that Cambodian election system has been wrongly implemented. As a party votes system, we cannot give electorates with largest votes as the winner of the seats at all. THe distribution of seats should be worked out with combine numbers of votes of each party gained for the whole country and the seats should be distributed according to the share of each party has. For that reason, smaller parties can try to win some seats for themselves and if they combine together, they can kick out the smelly CPP.

As the situation stands, no matter how big one party is, it is unlikely that it would be able to win CPP, unless there are changes to the status quo to the extent it becomes a truly facilitating condition such as more Cambodians become more literate if not completely educated, having real visionaries who are politically astute and capable of outwitting the CPP demoguege strategies. As long as the majority poor and illiterate Cambodians continue to perceive CPP as the sole party capable of speaking their language addressing their concerns (no matter by which way), the prospect of change in political party in Cambodia seems so remote. This does not mean that change is impossible at all, but it takes time; it could be one decade, two decades or even half a century like that which has recently happened in the Japanese political system. Though comparing Cambodia political scene to that of Japan may seem unrealistic, when the time and condition are ripe, it's going to be like a tidal wave and nothing can stand in its way...Until such time let's hope that more people of Cambodia can enjoy a more opportunity for education which seems arguably to be the only way out at least for now... Poor people of Cambodia

Cambodian governments need to be more open to our society by allowing the freedom of speech for individuals. Governments need to learn to step into a world of having a sense of humour. Like Aust, people can make a joke with their political leaders without getting into trouble. The freedom of speech means is not always that serious and Political leaders no need to make a big deal out of this, like a resting workers or editors and imprisonment them, in doing so to shut them up and so on. This is wrong, good governments don't need to use and abuse their power. They should be more focused on what needs to be done to improve the quality of life for individual. e.g. create a welfare system like all for one and one for all and at this stage, Khmer government seems to be a bit too slow in putting new infrastructures; I also think governments need to learn to move away from personal conflicts. Be focusing on improvement between one country to the next like Asian Nation working together as a team e.g. Asian nation money would be called “Asiano” equal to European nation money which is called “Euro”. We must think about what is more productive? E.g. everyone is equally important (one death is too many) at the sometimes we need to have a birth control rate (two children per family or one if necessarily). When talking about reforming, every government has its own both good and bad, however, if we can help them by giving ideas of what needs to be done to improve the whole nation is more significant than just changing it. In other words, restoring and implementing the wheel rather than re-inventing the wheel.

Point made by 4:13PM is a valid one, but up to a point. Of course, no need to reinvent the wheel. But we are not talking about "re-inventing the wheel" as implied in post by 3:352PM. We are actually suggesting the idea of changing or replacing a wheel as the current one is unfortunately rotten to the core beyond repair - all the spokes are completely rotten, thereby not sturdy enough to support even the chassis let alone the whole vehicle. Restoring/fixing parts of the wheel is an economical way to go, but this should be done only within its service life. Beyond that amount of time, to continue restoring the wheel may not be a wise option as it may eventually prove dangerous; the vehicle could run a risk of overturn due to the broken wheel...

Having birth control is indeed one desirable way to address poverty. With due respect, however, setting the number of children to two or one as suggested may call into question the issue of human rights (reproductive rights.) Perhaps birth spacing or family planning to allow couples to decide with regarding to the number of children they want may be a more viable option.

The two have no place to run in France. They should begin with other Khmer org; not just using this name and try to run over other orgs.

Wake up Minisota people. Khmer must united not running around like this.

We should agree to disagree. It is just people's rights to exchange and express ideas and opinions, right? Using such words as "no place to run in France" what kind of reformist is that 7:44pm? Perhaps you should wake up yourself over there in France.

You can't fuck with CPP without nothing to do Mr 2:18pm .You did everything for the srp himself only, but for khmer people so your opposition will done on the next term motherfucker.Your opposition party never did anything for Khmer people i believe your gonna be criminal of Khmer later on.

I'm not2:18PM. I don't want to use nasty words, but "never be humble to the haughty; never be haughty to the humble." The Buddha said, "A revenge will never settle peace with a counter revenge." That is brilliant idea of the enlightened one. But I am not the enlightened and never will be.

This cocksucker 8:45PM is one of haughty who must be responded with some nasty words. This dickhead thinks his CPP will never lose; it will stay permanent. Perhaps it will stay a little longer, but nothing can stay forever. You shrimp-brained should look back to Pol Pot's regime; how strong it was by that time? Still the cosequences of its evil deeds somehow brought it to a complete failure.

Hun Sen government lasts longer because it has committed lighter killing than Pol Pot's. But in the long run it will lose in disgrace.
I don't think that all decent Khmer people will allow their country to become one of the provinces of Vietnam as Yuons and Hun Sen had mutually agreed before the invasion.

Areak Prey (2:18PM) – I disagree with you that Cambodian election system is wrongly implemented. This is the same system implemented in Canada (and US?). The party that wins the most seats forms the government. In term of popular votes, that winning party may get less votes, but as long as it captures more seats than other parties, it can form the government.

6:35PM – In Cambodia context where the nation is facing constant threats from Yuons and Siems, birth control is not a viable option. Fewer children may reduce the level of poverty but will also increase our vulnerability. The more people we have the harder it is for Yuons or Siems to steal our land. So for teh time being, we should encourage people to have more kids.

10:06PM,
It's mistake to compare Cambodia election system to that of Canada. I want to ast you what makes you compare like that? Canada has no illegal immigants to vote for the candidate of their choice while Cambodia has plenty of illegal Yuon immigrant to vote for Hun Sen. And plus Hun Sen has used all kinds of dirty tricks to still votes.

correction:
ast=ask, immigrant=immigrants,
still=steal

Anonymous said...

So what is wrong with the Cambodian's election system then? Most people that are living in the most populous areas did not vote for the CPP. How did they win by such a margin?

We should stay focus on the subject if we want to have a meaningful debate. The subject here is how to determine the winning criteria of an election – popular vote or party vote.
If you want to debate about corruption, illegal settlers, etc, then start a new debate.

I decline to debate with you on any topic of the Cambodia election system for I think Cambodia has used manipulation, threats, votes stealing while Canada is very close to be free of all these dirty tricks, just like America is.

Dear All,
THere are three different parliamentary election systems to choose from.
1-First Past the post.
Each voter can choose to vote for his or her prefere candidate in each electorate. Therefore any candidate who got the most votes is the winner of the seat of that electorate.
2-Party votes ( In Cambodia ). Each voter can only vote to a party of his or her preference. So everyone has voted to their party. Therefore there is no winner and looser in this case because people have voted for different parties for the whole country. Therefore, the distribution of seats are needed to ad up all votes of each party for the whole counry and divide them accordingly to their share.
3-MMP Minority mixed proportional system. This system is a bit complicate. There are both electorate votes and party votes. Each voter can have two votes.
a-One vote for the party
b-One vote for the candidate.
The distribution will be worked out by the share of party votes. If a party has won more electorate seats, then , the party has less party list candidate.
You cannot compare this election this system to USA at all because in USA is presidential election. The Government in USA was bornt from their presidential election and the President can appoint their State secretary. In parliamentary system, the government was born from Parliamentary election. All government ministers should be from elected member of parliament. In democracy system, all ministers were being organised by their own party before election taken place. THe Prime Minister cannot appoint any minister at all. If he wants to sack, he should write to the king to fire. Each Minister can challenge their Prime Minister during each term of office. We call it Leadership challenge. This challenge can only done within their own party to replace Prime Minister.

I will support this organization if she shows us that she's not going to use this organization as a political party. We have enough parties aready. I don't want to see votes split any more.

Stupid idiot accused that" SRP done nothing for the khmer people."

What is when the SRP support people and people's rights again and again. what is that, nothing ? The only thing that the CPP don't to khmer people is curruptions, oppression, and allowing vietnam to step all over khmer. WHAT YOU IDIOTS AND CPP supporters have to say in defend????

Ponlue said...

Every Khmer: CPP, SRP, Mchas Srok,...has claimed that it is nationalist. It means do every thing for Khmer.

If so why they can not work together for the Khmer nation?

There are still so many ignorance in this forum for not understanding the system of democracy, mandate of each elected party etc...
1-After each election finish, only the party who has lead the country has the mandate to spend the National budget of US$ 1.9 billions and foreign aids of about a few hundred millions.
2-THe opposition party and other elected parties have no mandate to touch that moneys at all.
So only dummy person who can expect the opposition to build the country without moneys.
Now Hun Sen and his government has US$ 1.9 billions and hundred of millions more from other countries as foreign aids. So they can spend these moneys.
If Sam Rainsy party can lead the country, SRP can also spend that moneys and CPP will have no moneys to spend. Unless kidnapping like 1999-2001?
THe different is who can spend these moneys better for the value of that US$ 1.9 billions

All the money that has been donated should go into certain organisations to support the community,I hope it is not going into Hun sen's pocket,if so, Hun sen is going to be one of the most supper-power leaders in the world. If he is a good man with an intention to rebuilding the nation and country is ok but if he is abusing it by neglegence that is allowing people to live in poverty, he will be in deep trouble, eventhough how much money he got, it won't save him, because no one can get away from crimes or injustice and in the end justice will be prevailed. Again life is too short for everyone, Hun Sen is a leader and he better a good one and when he leaves, he will be remembered as a good leader, untlike other leaders like Pol Pot etc...
