Cambodian Center for Human Rights to host BBQ to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Paris Peace Accords
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) is pleased to announce that tomorrow, 23 October 2009, it will host a BBQ celebrating the 18th anniversary of the Paris Peace Accords, which negotiated an end to more than a decade of hostilities between rival Cambodian political movements and set Cambodia on a path to free and fair elections in 1993.
To mark the occasion the CCHR has invited members of the Royal Family and representatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia, other national political parties, international embassies, civil society and the media to commemorate in a spirit of cooperation this historic and auspicious day in Cambodia’s history. As part of the celebrations, a documentary will be shown that follows the negotiations from their beginnings in Paris in 1989.
The Paris Peace Agreements, a comprehensive political settlement for the restoration of peace in Cambodia, were signed on 23 October 1991 by the four main Cambodian political parties, 19 countries, and the United Nations. Under the agreements, the United Nations was charged with creating conditions for a long-lasting peace, laying the groundwork for a pluralistic democracy, rehabilitating the country's infrastructure, and repatriating over 300,000 Cambodian refugees and displaced persons. As a result of the accords, a U.N. sponsored general election was held in May 1993 to elect members of a Constituent Assembly, which consequently drafted the Cambodian Constitution.
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights is pleased to join with the community in hosting this event which seeks to continue the spirit of cooperation which embodied the 1991 agreement.

The real point that whole world donated $-millions to Cambodia is because of Paris Peace Agreement, not because of Janaury 7th, 1979.
Please remember this!
