High-ranking Human Rights Party (HRP) officials indicated that in the afternoon of 06 October 2009, Kem Sokha, HRP president, will hold a press conference to discuss about the alliance with the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP).
Kandal HRP MP Ou Chanrith indicated over the phone that, tomorrow, the HRP will hold a press conference, following the return of Kem Sokha from Europe. The latter will also report about the outcome of his trip overseas and about the HRP’s stance in the alliance with the SRP.
Ou Chanrith added that, during tomorrow’s press conference, there will be no SRP official present, and only HRP officials will be there. Furthermore, Kem Sokha should be returning from Europe this evening also.
Regarding the conditions for the alliance, Ou Chanrith said that officials from both parties have met on several occasions. However, he declined to provide further comments on these meetings.
The committee that is involved in the discussion of the alliance conditions include: Ou Chanrith and Nhem Ponhrith from the HRP, and Son Chhay, Yim Sovann and Mu Sochua from the SRP.
On 15 January 2009, Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha signed a joint statement regarding the union of their political forces, and leaders from both parties agreed to form a democratic movement, in order to provide an alternative to people who want to see a change in the country’s leadership in order to bring in a new era for the country’s economy, society, and politics to foster development. The alliance would be put to test in the upcoming 2012 commune election, as well as in the 2013 general election. During these elections, only one party name will be used by the alliance.

The alliance of these two political parties should have happened before the last election. Anyway it's not too late to unite for the purpose of pursuing freedom, social justice, and democracy for Khmer people. In the long run it's patriotism and determination that will prevail over absolutism.
Nothing is wrong with the alliance or the components that will make up the alliance, the problem is the CPP controls every institution in Cambodia and use it to its advantage. No institution in Cambodia is TRUE Independent, it 's all under the control of ONE CPP man who thinks he's GOD, that is HUN SEN. Unless there is a third party like the International body steps in to organise and manage the election it'll never be free and fair. The NEC will always be a CPP lap dog. On top of this Hun Sen has the court, army, police, foreigners (ie VN) that have the Cambodian ID cards will vote for the CPP….etc…etc…..with just a few words of threatening from Hun Sen the Cambodians will vote for the CPP without any thought for the future of the nation. That few words are "WAR WILL BREAK OUT IF I, HUN SEN LOSE THE ELECTION". Hun Sen takes the whole nation hostage….he knows and plays on the fear card of the Khmer people for his power hungry. The sad part is Cambodia will continue to suffer and Hun Sen and his cronies will continue to enrich and put Cambodia in a dangerous path.

Hun Sen and his cronies sold Cambodia for hundreds of millions dollars, but gave rice, Sarongs, salt, sodium glutamate to poor khmers. These latters praised Hun Sen and his cronies for their alms.
If khmer can put the country and its future first, individual second. khmer can have future.
The reason khmer nowaday are suffering is the government put themself first, the country and its people last.
If the current government continue the same path. Soon there will be nothing left!
If both leaders Mr. Sam Rainsy and Mr. Kem Sokha put NATION first then this alliance will work at all cost.
This cannot be repeated as the alliance between SRP and the Funcinpec.
Please and please learn the mistakes from the SRP-Funcinpec alliance and make SRP-HRP alliance work this time.
The strongest link of this SRP-HRP alliance will based on "democratic principles", "Khmer nationhood", and "trust". I would suggest party name: "Alliance of Khmer Democratic Change (AKDC)"

It's time now and It's not too late.I agree 100% with most of folks above, and It would be a great alliance if all small political parties that love freedom, justice and democracy... unite together,too. I also wish the new party that win the next election will make a change on PM minister term,so no one can run the country for the rest of his or her life...

i think i can trust Sam Rainsy, but can i trust Kem Sokha? i've watched Kem Sokha over the years since untac's days and had always regarded him with respect. that was until his brush with allegations of corruption. how can i trust him again? how can i trust him not to sabotage the opposition? what if after his alliance with SRP he decide to turn into a loyal opposition (you know an opposition in name that Hun Sen would love to have) and drag SRP with him? well i don't think i can trust Mr Kem Sokha, full stop.

To unite together, these two parties need to choose ;
-One Party President: THe party president is to recruit member and to organise party list for candidates to run for the election. This party president cannot lead the country even his party winning to lead the country. He will remain the President of the party only to work with other parties to amke sure that Cambodia will be democratic country.
-One party leader: THe party leader will be the potential Prime Minister of Cambodia or leader of the opposition.
I agree with many posters that after three election, Mr Sam Rainsy and Mr Kem Sokha should open their way for a new Party leader and two of them should stay as President and vice President of the party and let Mrs Mu Sochua to lead the party for next election. This is democracy. Therefore, both Mr Sam rainsy and Mr Kem Sokha should show their leading role to young generations to follow.
It is a turn for Mu Sochua to show her leadership against Hun Sen.

I agree! If Kem Sokha is truely patriotic he should join SRP from the begining rather forms his own party.
This is disgraceful! Since established in 1995 SRP has maintained good and honest leader, well respect and continues to gain supporters every day. In order to have any success HRP has to have good and honest leader, but Kem Sokha is none of that.
Kem Sokha may have done many things but each thing he did has no faith, no true history and dishonest. People seem to have difficulty in identifying his ideology belief. In addition, Kem Sokha has no good clear history. Perhaps, he is one of the left over Khmer Rouge and a communist just like Hun Sen.
It is very hard and should never trust Kem Sokha because of his unconstructive backgrounds. Moreover, it is very difficult to trust him even more because his younger brother Kem Lokhun who was Human Right Deputy Secretary General and deflected from his older brother Kem Sokha to join CPP in 2008. Kem Sokha have and has been a corrupted mind. This is why he got booted from CHHR. Per this reasons, SRP should take this into considerations. It is very obvious that HRP is the living cancer to infect SRP’s inner organs.
HRP is human rights only in name. I never saw HRP trying to protect people rights from rival CPP. Where is HRP during Mu Sochua issues and many other’s rights violated issues? Where is Kem Sokha when the current ruling government violate human rights, robs our people and sale our land?

People should not trust Kem Sokha. Especially his long history of corruption with CHHR, got caught then got fired. Also his brother left him to join CPP last year.

HRP has done its jobs as a minority party (oppostion party). HRP never changed its stance since the begining... We have been doing what we have said Never bowled our head to the ruling party. I am supporting that idea that all parties (non-ruling parties) should unite together as one...as one NEW party before the next election to overcome the current ruling party which has done nothing but destoying country due to corruption, deforestation, allowing illegal viet immigrants to come to this country freely.....etc. ALL PARTIES SHOULD BE UNITE ON DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES...

I believe both men (Mr. Sam Rainsy and Mr. Kem Sokha) can form a coalition. This is the only way to let people know in Cambodia: that there are only two choices: the Democratic Force and the Communist Force.
Vote for the Democrats(SRP+HRP) or for the Communists (CPP).
This is clear choice, even a young child can understand the difference between the democrats and the communists.

We have The 8 following points of Mechanism that can guarantee the Powers of the People:
1 - The term of office of the Prime Minister must be limited (2 terms).
2 - The Prime Minister is not allowed to form his own personal bodyguards by himself.
3 - The Prime Minister should live in the residence provided by the Government.
4 - To form administrative court.
5 - The role and function as well as the promotion of general of military and police should be approved by the Parliament.
6 - The Government Official should be neutral.
7 - The Representatives of all levels (Commune/Sangkat, District/Khan and Province/City) should be directly elected and dismissed by the People.
8 - Using of uninominal system to elect the members of Parliament.
With these 8 Mechanics successfully impletmenting then our country will be in a realy DEMOCRACY. Do you think so?
