As prince, head of state and king, Norodom Sihanouk accomplished many things, but as the former monarch prepares for his 87th birthday, he should be remembered as bringing peace to Cambodia, a former director of the Royal Cabinet said Thursday.
Sihanouk, who abdicated the throne in 2004 and has been struggling against cancer, was born Oct. 31, 1922, oversaw independence in 1953, was exiled by a US-backed coup in 1970, held under house arrest by the Khmer Rouge, and finally returned as king.
His main legacy was peace, said Truong Mealy, the former cabinet head, as a guest on “Hello VOA.”
“With such peace, we can now talk,” he said.

Is he the father or founder of Khmer communist? Don't say "No, he is not communist". If not, why he only deals with the communist states and live with them. Don't say "No".

I used to admired him but not anymore. Cambodian people had suffered under him. We should get rid off the monarch. The king is useless for the people. I read too many documents already and still read. I also read how the Vietnamese lived under Chinese controlled and how they freed themselves from the Chinese.
I came to my own conclusion whether anyone likes it or not, but it is my very own opinions.
Khmer King like King Ang Doung in 1800's were able to free themselves by the helps from the powerful nation French, but somehow the majority of Khmer people are mixing with the Vietnamese since 16th century, some may love Vietnamese (due to racism in the community) and some may love Cambodia.
The serious problems were difficult to fight the enemies within; and if some Khmers or leaders have tried to adopt with the situations to survive some other Khmers see as the traitors. I didn't include the nation's thieves.
No one can do anything right in Cambodia, because Khmers have too many critics but less action's takers. The brave man and woman like Mu Sochua and Rainsy know how hard it is to be fight to free ourselves.
I can see how hard work the two are doing for Cambodia, but critics I see in this KI are mostly braggarts and are good with cursing. It is so easy to insult others who're in front line, but it is not easy to stay in front line to get shot.
I wouln't want to be Khmer leaders' shoes while the enemies were already fully infiltrated.
It makes me want to puke whenever I hear Sihanouk call those Dictators Norht Korea and China super friends.

Cambodia is a monarchy country. the monarchy tradition has existed in cambodia since the angkor era. the only problem in cambodia is that the king has no political power, unlike in england. In thailand the king runs the country because the people respect their king.
Another problem is that khmer royals are backward people. they lack capacity to develop the country, but rather stick with century-old tradition. as a result, most cambodian people still live in poverty.
