About the author:The press covers these last few days Hun Sen's stunning declarations of support for Thaksin. He appeared as a defender of the latter, even offering him a post of economic advisor. At his arrival at the airport in Thailand for the summit of ASEAN, he continues by saying that Thaksin is a « political victim » and compares him with Aung San Suu Kyi, the key figure of democracy and Burmese opposition. He adds that his « concerns » are also humanitarian . While Cambodia risks of being in one big humanitarian misery due to the growing poverty of the Cambodian population.
Maya Mary Kong is a Ph.D candidate in political science, Canada. Born in 1985 from a Cambodia father and an Australian mother, I wish to express my gratitude to my parents for their love, support during all these years and for transmitting to me their love for Cambodia. A particular thank is also expressed to the worldwide Cambodian community for its help and strong encouragement. I also wish pay homage to Khmer people who have lost their life for the country, and all those who dedicate a part of their life to lead actions for Cambodia. And finally, a special thoughts for people who suffer and die because of the extreme poverty.
Hun Sen's attitude irritated not only Bangkok but also caused questions to many observers, why a Prime Minister - whose political party has ruled the country for thirty years without sharing real power within the National Assembly - worries about the democracy and the humanitarian issues in the neighbouring country, Thailand. While his CPP party - installed to power in Phnom Penh in January 1979 and supported by Viet-Nam until this day - did not cease, since its landslide victory in July 2008 with the legislative elections, Hun Sen strengthened his clamp to suffocate all opposition voice while keeping the vast majority of the Khmer population in an extreme poverty in order to control it for political purpose.
Obviously, these declarations - emanating from such a high ranking official of Phnom Penh regime where nothing can be decided without Hanoi agreement - are not certainly unplanned. These declarations are found to be a double political game of Hanoi which fits clearly in a renewed geopolitical context in order to push the Vietnamese expansionism even farther.
This is the thesis that we want to defend in this short present article. Its goal is to bring some of elements to reduce information asymmetry, which is systematically perpetrated to the Cambodian people. The consequences of such an asymmetry were dramtic as well as devastating for Cambodia.

Excellent sources, but Dr. Kong to be needs to edit her typographical errors. Like I have always said that Good Youn are bad Youn and are evil killers. It is truth that Youn used Khmer names and gave their children scholarships to study at oversea. Youn are too hated by Cambodians, by Laos and by Thais no matter what Youn try to do.

This article is not only in Thai blogs but in Asia and in some of western blogs. The person "loclac" didn't read but may be just glanced a few lines and came up with the conclusion on its own. It can be truth that loclac is one of the Vietnamese's eyes and ears. This article is long and there are many references to back up, we cannot just read bla bla then curse the educated writer.
If this young PhD can analize about the problems we have that caused by the Vietnamese's expansionism, she can be walking in danger. As we knew and read about the past that Educated Cambodians were mostly killed during Pol Pot regime, the regime that evil Viets were inside with.

Of course the Vietnamese have influence in Cambodian because 3 Million Vietnamese People live in Cambodian.
I worked together for many years with Vietnamese People in Cambodia and can say that they are very hard workers.
They always delivered me a good work as promised! They never said to me:

Cambodia need good people from other countries to help them to bring Cambodia forward.
Unfortunately the Khmer People cannot do this alone.

You are wrong about Thai people.
Thais hate Vietnamese worse than anything, but just that they are not allowed to show. Just look at their law, Thai high ranking men are not allowed to marry Vietnamese women. Since now there are Viet secret army infiltrate in Thailand, Thai government knew who is behind. As we know the Junta Thai governmnet does not want to make two enemies at the same time.

Laos and Khmer people have reasons to hate Youn. No body hate Youn without reasons. Youn have never done anything good to Cambodia besides trying to detroy her.
Why do you think everyone should ask Thai? If you ask the Thai of Khmer orgin, sure they will tell you "Motherfucker Yuon" or if you ask Laos not Youn pretend to be Laos, sure they will answer you "Motherfucker Yuon".
I believe there's planned vietnamization of Cambodia. If one do a little bit more research, they will see this clearly.
The guy from Europe doesn't know about Khmer history, he may have worked in Cambodia with Vietnamese community but he doesn't the root cause for this conflict. He needs to do more research.

Reading this article, I am grateful to Ms.Kong.
Vietnam has successfully played their "divide and conquer tactic" policy. The author is brilliant in bringing us to light the "deterrence" approach of Vietnam to back up with the super power like the US, China and Soviet.
In the eyes of Viet-Nam's policy makers, no true enemy and no true friend in the political arena, but Viet-Nam benefits are their priority.
Vietnam totally infiltrated into KR troops to signal a wrong decision of China in supporting KR after Honoi betrayed China when they defeated the US and created a great national unification.
It can be possible to understand that Viet-Nam infiltrated Lon Nol, and the alliance of US with Lon Nol was the wrong choice with no-choice for US, that why the US didn't fully support Lon Nol.
It is the same scenario that China didn't fully support KR to invade Viet-Nam as KR planned because China realized that Viet-Nam was already inside KR troops.
Current Thaksin's issue is very interesting. Viet-Nam infiltrators in North-East Region especially in Ubon Thani province which are full of former Viet-Namese population led by Ho Chi Minh when he disguised as a Buddhist monk to spread Communist in Thailand.
But in Cambodia, Hun Sen is a pivotal actor to jump in the front stage like a monkey. Very interesting! Hun Sen is very patriotic about the Preah Vihear stone but allowing further encroachment and Viet-Namese troops inside Cambodia. Hun Sen is doing this because of his noneducational, or enforcement, or his exit theory to avoid life sentencing etc? Please help decode Hun Sen's mindset together here!!
Viet-Nam has always spread their people and agents in both sides of the rivals. Sometime, we don't have conflict, Vietnam will help us create conflicts. But when Viet-Nam can strengthen their force, they can minimize the conflict. How do you think about the current peace of Cambodia?
Let see, counter-balance policy will also effectively work if there will be a crash between USNS and China submarine in Hainan near Danang of Viet-Nam. From this clash, Viet-Nam will benefit tremendously. As we know, the claim of Sprateley and Paracel Islands, Viet-Nam dare not turn their eyes straight toward China, but Viet-Nam has their good chess on the board, is to drag US into their side. Very interesting right?
But look at Cambodia, those drunkard leaders in Phnom Penh government are good only in taming and punishing Cambodian people, but they are only puppet playing monkey role in the stage to devastate Cambodia.
Like I have always said, Hun Sen is a strong man among Cambodians, but with foreigners he is a pure monkey who can jump into the stage to play with every time!

Vietnamese communists already infiltrated in Thailand. Not long agao, Laos Monk who escaped to Thailand was assassinated after he contacted his own people. And who killed him if not Viet army in Thailand?
I still think Samak may be poisoned by Viet Cong just like Pol Pot, after Samak made an alert his people that Viet soldiers are in Thailand especially in Thammasat University. Hanoi first reached out to brainwash and pay students that's what they did in Cambodia.

If Ms Kong didn't do her research and write this much, darn it she will never see her real PhD. But she did an excellent job, I'm very impressed. I can see her thesis will pay off, but make sure she keeps a low profile hiding before Hanoi may poison her like they did to many Khmers before.

The US and China will never directly fight with each other. They will use small countries to fight for them. As you have observed China needs the US, and the US needs China to do the business. As we all know, China's labor is so cheap.
They both only threat each others but they won't directly fight. If the war break out, it will be the last world WAR, too many will die.

Vietnam created a division in Cambodia since for a long time, and when we lost a unity, Vietnamese took advantage so easily. Now Vietnam is doing the same thing in Thailand. From that the US is doing it in SEA and elswhere. There created so many confusion tactics and if we miss to follow them carefully we will lost ourselves into an invisible battle; because we don't understand besides cursing our own people every day and every night, then we play Hanoi's games without knowing what is going one, so we fight and kill each others, and everyone claims to be a messiah.

An excellent start toward a full analysis. I would develop it further. The scissors strategy first described some 25 years ago by Anitoliy Golitsyn and further clarified by J.R. Nyquist, is in strong evidence. The main players of the SCO, the PRC and Russia, invoke the good cop (PRC) and bad cop (Vietnam / Russia) charade. Ultimately, the goal is to divide and conquer, ultimately resulting in a massive tributary state to the SCO from the Golden Triangle to the Strait of Malacca. If I were an Australian, I would be nervous. The SCO may accomplish what the Japanese failed to do. Imagine indeed what a difference modern logistics and strategic and tactical nuclear weapons would make.
