This is a very good time for all Cambodians to ensure that the protection of Cambodian border with Thailand is very important as well as the protection of border with Vietnam is also very important. These two countries have gradually encroached Cambodia land until we are left in a small size like a "leave of bodhi tree" nowadays.
Every Cambodian and government officials have to appreciate with Sam Rainsy who has made this debate happen in order to tell Vietnam that their gradual violation through the border demarcation is not silent any more.
Again, some of CPP's members and misunderstanding Khmers might have always condemned Sam Rainsy of acting like a hyper-politician. But now, I have word to balance my argument.
1. Sam Rainsy has done a correct thing for Cambodian nation. What is the measure to demarcate Cambodian border correctly? By GIS or by people who have lived in those actual lands years and years. We all know that respectful bilateral treaty has never existed between Vietnam and Hun Sen government. Children can also understand this common relationship. China might back Cambodia to face with Vietnam, but surely Hun Sen leadership will not do that because of huge gratitude that Hun Sen has to pay back to Vietnam. Otherwise, the Cambodian land which was claimed by those local farmers are truly belonging to them (Cambodians). The demarcation and border poles are just the treaty of "kill without bleeding". Those Cambodian farmers are the primary witness of Vietnam who has always encroached Cambodia land. But through the supplemental border treaty, Vietnam can demarcate (encroach) deep into our Cambodian land legally. Importantly, this Vietnamese news has well utilized its primary purpose to condemn Sam Rainsy. Very good, we are looking to hearing the feedback from our government.
Interestingly, the theme and style of this news is the same as the news/statement of Hun Sen government.

Well done Sam Raingsy. Hun Sen show a soft stance towards Vietnam concerning the borders, because of the so called " 7 January" , while taking a so called " rough diplomatic stance" towards the THais. That the reason why the Thais look down on Cambodia.
All Khmers need to wake up protect our land from the east or west. Sam Raingsy is the role model for khmer nationalistic. Bravo Sam Raingsy. All kaun khmers are behind and support you.

When I look into the distant past of Cambodia between Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, the Khmer have almost always lost to
these 2 neighboring countries. And I'm worried about the future of Cambodia, which has not political leaders of quality and talent to defend the true interests of Cambodia.
I'm sure it just made Sam Rainsy is totally unnecessary for the interests of the cambodia to solve problems if there was problem between two sovereign states and in peace time.
Politics is a pitiless world.
In politics, it is always the weakest, least intelligent and least skilled who are manipulated and exploited by other politicians more knowledgeable, more experienced.
The current generation of Khmer are less stupid than thinking Sam Rainsy and his supporters.
I don't get it. Why does the average Cambodian remain so passive an apathetic?
Even when the violations happen to them they don't know how to organize anything. They always rely on politicians to do this or do that for them. If Sam Rainsy did not make this public protest no one would even care about it.
Cambodian are lucky to have a country of their own and they take it for granted.
Khmer Krom do not, and they stand up and protest even under the country that hold their necks.
So why are the Cambodians so scare? apathetic? or passive about people taking their ricefield?
Come on people. You need to stop depending on others and start doing for yourself.
maybe in PPenh some NGO will say eviction is bad, but that' is all they going to do.
Khmer people everywhere need to be more aggressive for themselves
The pure Khmer, the Khmer half-caste born abroad, the Khmer Cham, the Sino-Khmer, the thai-khmer, the Khmer-Vietnamese, are all Cambodians and they do not share the actions of Sam Rainsy and his supporters. Remember it.
And In the situation of military confrontation with Thailand on Preah Vihear , the political action that just made Sam Rainsy does not benefit the interests of Cambodia because it is the division between Khmer.
Thailand is benefiting most from the Sam Rainsy’s political action.
Whatever SR wants to do, here are my suggestions:
1. Ask you staff to walk around the border (where the poles are) and GPS recording
2. Plot that GPS locations with that of the border treaty between Vietnam and Cambodia accepted at the 1991 Paris Peace Accord
3. On the map, explain to the public the irregularities and the difference between those locations
4. Illustrate where VN took it
5. Make the map public
6. Send the map to all signatory countries to the Paris Peace Accord
7. You'll win public support

And by the way, don't fall into yuon trap by accusing Hun Sen as traitor. Yuons forced Hun Sen to sign all the treaties. If Hun Sen refused, yuons would kill him like they did to Chan Si, or put him in jail like they did to Pen Sovann.
Yuons are affraid to hurt Sam Rainsy but they don't hesitate to liquidate Hun Sen if he opposes them. This is the same bloody tactic yuons used to control our kings, rulers and countries since the emperor Ming-Mang era.
That's why Sam Rainsy is in the best position to protest the yuon encroachment while Hun Sen is the best to fight the Thais.

I have a lot of sympathy for Mr. Hun Sen. He is in an extremely difficult/dangerous position. Everyone must understand if Hun Sen does not obey Hanoi, Hanoi will kill him. But if he does, oppositions and Khmer people will accuse him as traitor or youn slave.
So I ask every Khmer - civilian or military, inside or outside the country,opposition or supporter to come together and firmly support Mr. Hun Sen. Only when we do that, then Mr. Hun Sen can stand up and disobey Hanoi.
If he does not, then everyone including me, can accuse and treat him as a traitor or Hanoi slave.

I guess whatever happen to Cambodia is already written down in some book of virtue. Think about it? If Sam Rainsy didn't held his ceremony there, would this boarder be brought up? If Pol Pot didn't come in, would poor Khmer have a chance to live oversea? If Thai didn't cause a problem, would the world know their true color? We, as human have our own destiny to follow and it goes the same for the destiny of the country. They are the chosen one to run the country, to protect, and to serve its people whether it's good or bad. It's like the saying, "you can compete in boat race, but you cannot compete with destiny" Everything happen for a reason and only time can answer.
Great start now...while Hun Sen is fighting with Thailand....Sam Rainsy is fighting with Vietnam...

According to your comment , if you are in Cambodai , will you stand up to Hun Sen and tell him to stop doing whatever he is doing to make people suffer ? I think not. People around the country , included the UN, NGO , Civil Society and the Opposition Parties know that Hun Sen won't take creticism from anyone and he will crush anyone who dare to stand up to him and oppose his idea . Do you still remember what happened to the peaceful protesters in 1997 ? It's not easy like you say up there .

I try to understand and sympathize with P.M. Hun Sen as well and as I suggest in the past that if he is a real nationalist then he should let the opposition run the country (changing hand maybe temporarily)and let the opposition unwind all those unfavorable deals once done, P.M. Hun Sen and his party could come back that is to say if he wins the election etc.... therefore, I am not sure how to make out of it? your call.

Very good point 12:55AM, and that was exactly came to my mind too. It would be a good move for PM Hun Sen to take sometimes off and let the oppositions run the country and clean up all the debts and bad deals. Unfortunately, that is not up to Hun Sen. Yuons won't let the opposition win, and if they have to they will replace Hun Sen with someone else to do the job.
The best for us to ask for China intervention, i.e. ask China to provide personal protection to Hun Sen, and other Khmer nationalist leaders. We can not do it ouselves, we got to have China onboard.
I think the best person to request China assistance is King ta.

Your suggestions has been well taken and on the subject of the Chinese, yes, indeed, if Hun Sen is really a nationalist, then he could admit it public before the Vietnamese makes their moves and request the assistance from China publicly. Keep in mind that during 1978/1979 China doesn't have a full control or grasp their own situation after the revolution in China yet and coupled with Chou En Lai and Mao Tse Toung just died? now it's a different story......
I appeal to P.M. Hun Sen to go ahead admit it in Public, don't make a mistake like former P.M. Penn Sovann and together we'll rebuilt Cambodia and 1 day you never know! you might come back to power again but at least at that time we will have a system of check and balance between the legislative and the excecutive and let it be known we are not against Vietnam nor Thailand but we will deal with them and negotiate with them in a fair manner not as a souverain????

Now the Easthern dark zone of Cambodian's border being shined by the candle light. Will Mr.Hun Sen dare to send the just promoted bodygaurds 70 to investigate the illegal posts that marked by the Viet in your own Khmers'farm land?.
This border issue should not be signed within a closed door by only Cambodian leader or King between this two nations "The Viet & Thai". The Khmers people have the rigth to say in a publie debate for the Khmer nation interest.
We're all should know that, this is the 21th century not in a dark age. And the Royal Cambodian Govn-ment Border Committee "Mr. Var Kim Hoang" Should inform clearly in a public to all Khmers citizen.
The Royal government of Cambodia must seek UN intervention regarding illegal border posts moved inside Cambodia by Vietnam. Our Khmer farmers and peasants along border can report to provincial authorities regarding any irregularities. We need modern tech to verify the boundary markers according to existing UN maps.
We lost Kampuchea Krom by King Chey Chetta II because of a "Vietnamese pussy."
Now we lose more land because Hun Sen is a Vietnamese puppet. Undeniably, the Viets helped him gained power and wealth (through plundering Cambodia's natural resources and extreme corruption.)
If the CPP is truly a Khmer nationalist party, then it should not be silence regarding Vietnamese illegal encroachment into Khmer land and sue Sam Rainsy.
If Hun Sen wants to be a national Hero like King-Father Sihanouk, he must take Vietnam to the international court of justice regarding Koh Tral and the illegal treaties coerced by Vietnam to sign in 1985. If not, he and his family should emigrate to Hanoi for good.
Hun Sen gets a (D-) for mishandling the Preah Vihear case. Prolonging bilateral negotiations is a waste of time. This should have been in UN security council for discussion.
The Cambodian people deserve to have a leader that cares about their concerns, protect their land, provide freedom, security and justice. At the same time, safeguard national interests above personal and foreign interests.
It is mighty fishy when Sam Rainsy chooses to be silent about the Thai aggression but active on the eastern front against Vietnamese encroachment into Khmer land. And at the same time, Hun Sen chooses to be silent about the Viet aggression and focus on Preah Vihear on the western side of the country.
Khmers should learn from the past and should never side with the enemy, either with alligator or the tiger.
We need more competent people in all fields to protect the country.
