Thaksin to issue an open letter

6/11/2009
Bangkok Post

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will send an open letter to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to explain why he has accepted the advisory posts in Cambodia, Noppadon Pattama said on Friday.

Thaksin has been appointed by King Sihamoni of Cambodia personal adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and economic adviser to the Cambodian government.

Mr Noppadon, Thaksin's legal adviser, said that in the letter the fugitive former prime minister would give his comment on Thailand's diplomatic reaction to Hun Sen's action and explain why he had accepted the advisory posts. He said details of the letter would be revealed this afternoon.

The former foreign minister criticised the government as having overreacted by recalling the ambassador to Phnom Penh, saying it would affect diplomatic relations between the two countries, put the border trade at risk, and might lead to an international conflict.

He urged Mr Abhisit to review his stance and and resort to negotiations with Hun Sen.

Very bad move for Thaksin to accept the post. Any reconciliation with those in power is very very remote now.
