As recently discussed, here is the Royal Decree of 1926 (highlighted) on the changing of the name of Phum Deracharn (village of the animals/thugs) back to Kraing Leav. We all may have remembered that during King Norodom's reign, the village/khum Kraing leav (Memory of the Laos) was changed to Deracharn (thugs) after the local inhabitants' rebellion.
I was told recently, as a gratitude to Hun Sen's sponsored school building in the Khum, the school is now called: Sala batharm seksa Hun Sen Deracharn. [roughly translated as The Primary school-Hun Sen, the thug]. This is not funny, if this is true.
Likewise, Samdech recently lambasted against the Secondary School of Kbal Chkae village management for having the name of Vithyealai Hun Sen Kbal Chkae [the "College" of Dog-headed Hun Sen]. This is not funny either. Samdech has all the reasons to be cranky.

If I were you I would never drive on the roads, attend school or university provided by the Cambodian government. That rule should be apply to the SRP members and their supporters.
If you use public services provided by the Cambodian government, you should be considered much worse than dogs. Dogs at least show some gratitude to those who feed them

Thanks for sharing. One fact I'd like to correct is the period when the village name was changed to Phum Derichhan. It was not changed under the reign of Norodom, but under the reign of Sisowath. Phum Kraing Leav was changed to Phum Derichhan (the village of animals) by order of King Sisowath after the villagers rioted and killed the French tax collector named Badez and his translator in 1916. The reason the king ordered the village to be renamed Phum Derichhan was because he wanted to appease the French colonial authority who was so enraged that the Khmer villagers had rioted and killed their French tax collector and his translator. Please note that King Norodom died in 1904, 12 years before the village name was changed to Phum Derichhan.

Kraing is in my view derived from the sanskrit "ghrama" meaning a village or phumi widely used in pre-angkor and angkor. In Khmer Kraing has three meanings, (1) a book, the khmaer used it up to about 18th century when it was replaced by the word seavpau, which is is conbination of two chinese words: seah and pau; (2) a village, like Kraing leav, village of Laotians, (3)used as adverb, it mean unmoveldy or memory. For instance, Nov kraing ti nouh,or live unmovedly in that place, or nov kraing knung chitr kjum or stay as a memory in my mind. Thus, lok Bora's translation of memory is not incorrect. That said, Kraing leav = leav/laotian village is more preferred or correct here.
The question are there any Lao descendants or villagers living in the village ?
Kraing leav, I think the name might have appellated from Kraing Leas (i.e Died up of mushell mor shells - no more shells)
How about another place, Phnom Kraing Dey Meas ?
