The net is wide and fish-tight; the pond is equally ‘vast’, but the net is cast whilst shoals of fish are still swimming, largely unperturbed, blissful and content as they feed and feast on temporal pleasures of the hour, nay, of the moment, inside the net that is closing in all around them in so deadly yet imperceptible a fashion, that when the End comes, all will prove too little too late, like, that is, the fate of all other shoals of fish, caught in the same net before them, in other ponds.

Cambodia can no longer afford to cede any more territory to neighbouring countries. Every inch of rice field and forest lost is adding renewed insult to historical injury, and along with that loss, a part of the Khmer soul.

It would not be the first time that the Khmer people will have to rise up against foreign domination and, throw off foreign yoke. But they need to be galvanised and led into action.

The strategies that enabled so-called liberation movements around the world to triumph against the odds in the 20th century, in particular, could also be emulated and turned against one of those movements that most emphatically and expediently deployed them: the North Vietnamese. For practicality alone, one in not hinting at things that may take years or even decades to realise, such as armed resistance, but this remains a possibility. Opposition and nationalist forces could adopt more pragmatic methods in counteracting the current threat by way of broadening the base of their movement to encompass and affect potential hotspots that have hitherto been immune to parliamentary critique or media attention. To elaborate further on this would not be constructive, however.

In any event, the use of arms or the option of being able to use one, is after all, an extension of diplomacy, or more precisely, of its failure to bring about a desired end, to which politics must be rightly seen as a mere tool or means.

In other words, politics is the art of possibilities in real life, and is inseparable from what is fundamental to us in that life, be it nationalism or social justice. What separates or distinguishes us from our oppressors should be our disdain for institutionalised violence directed against those that are bereft or deprived of social and physical protection and are, thus, the most sinned against rather than sinners. How many opposition activists have risked their limbs and lost their lives - like lambs to the slaughter - since the early 1990s? How many more opposition activists are awaiting similar fate?

Random and selective violence is a certain, trusted feature of an illegitimate and undemocratic rule. How else would a planeload of asylum-seekers be unceremoniously repatriated to certain torture or even death one day, while their enforcers were rewarded with 1bn dollars the next? The irony is that, all this money is earmarked for ‘poverty reduction’ and social development!

When we have traded one of our most core principles as concerned humans for the plight of our fellow beings, in return for temporal gains, however inducing this maybe, we have chosen to demean the value of all lives, including our own, and set in motion a live -for - now or me-first precedent to be followed by others. And if ‘we’ happens to be self-appointed rulers and leaders, we may never have cause to suspect that the net is drawing us out of the water and into the boiling pot and then, to take an opportune moment to swim out of danger swiftly and collectively.

No surprise, this is Hun Sen Cambodian Strongman's political game. He survives this long in Cambodia and he is not stupid. He is capable to kill Sihanouk and Sam Rainsy at anytime he wanted.

To all Khmer compatriots, ladies and gentlemen,

Dear Khmer Kandal and Khmer Krom fighters,

Mr. Sam Rainsy and his party non-violence policy towards Hun Sen/CPP will not and never be work and Vietnam does not want to understand what is democracy, what is human right and what is oppressed, colonized, occupied Cambodia who was once upon the time fed, sheltered, supported Crocodile’s Vietnam to win over United States Arm forces in Vietnam War.

On 16th December, 2009 Mr. Hun Sen said in Cambodian public that Mr. Sam Rainsy will not be tolerated again this time, he must come in Cambodia and go to Prey Sar prison (sic), or he should ask Thai government to let him form a Khmer Exile Government at the Khmer-Thai territory along the Western border.

What Mr. Sam Rainsy ought to do is neither goes to Prey Sar prison nor goes to Vietnamese court in Hanoi. If, I were Mr. Sam Rainsy I would negotiate with Mr. Abbhisit Vejjajiva the Thai prime minister to follow Mr. Hun Sen suggestion in forming a Khmer Exile Government at the Thai-Cambodia border. I can assure you there will be 100 of thousands Khmer inside Cambodia will come to join the new Khmer Exile Government like in 1979’s.

Khmer king Norodom Sihamoni appointed Thaksin Shinawatra as Hun Sen adviser. Therefore, Mr. Sam Rainsy can form a Khmer Exile Government along Khmer-Thai border too. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WHICH CAN brings Vietnam and their slave Mr. Hun Sen/CPP to respect the 23rd October, 1991 Paris Peace Agreement by convene another international conference on Cambodia.

Kulen @10:05AM,

That would give Hun Sen more valid and legitimate reasons to bring millions more of the Viet troops into Cambodia, wouldn't it? Then what? Will we have some land left to farm by then?
