On 01 January, Kem Sokha, President of the Human Rights Party, called for all democratic and nationalist parties and politicians to unite in the form of a federation or a new political party in preparation for the upcoming 2012 commune election and the 2013 general election.
In his open message for the New Year, Kem Sokha indicated that the HRP considers the union of democrats and nationalists based on democracy as a necessary goal that cannot be delayed any longer.

Hey KEM SOKHA.
Don't you think you should do something more meaningful to your country like GO TO THE BORDER AND TRY TO PULL SOME BORDER MARKERS that you think it violated khmer territory?.Be a hero ok.
Kem Sokha, HRP is a snake! They all only good in speech. Never act on it. Who remember the last time Kem Sokha oppose the unethical ruling of the current government? None righ!
Kem Sokha, HRP are form with a mission to distract SRP. Becareful with this snake. Long corrupted history and his brother is currently with CPP.
Don't trust this snake! If he were truely have good intention for our people and nation he would join the opposition, SRP; rather formed his party "HRP" first then try to merge. Pathetic! Idiot! Make no sense if SRP agree upon Kem Sokha stipulations.
Kem Sokha, think about it! By the time your HRP strong enough there would be Cambodia left to defending.
Anyone have the right mind will not believe or trust you. Only light ears people listen to you.
SRP and all their activist have help you so much including people abroad to free you from the jail. Now, we all regreted! You are a snake! All you can do is go around in the far urbans villages to talks bad things about SRP to make your HRP looks good.
REALL, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELPS OUR VICTIMS. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP SRP. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO PROTECT OUR LAND. JUST LIKE SOME PEOPLE SAID, "HRP IS CPP'S PUPPET".
Correction to 2:46AM:
Kem Sokha, think about it! By the time your HRP strong enough there would be NO Cambodia left to defending.
Human Rights Party, is only human rights in the name. They do not dare to defending our populations who were abuse by the government. HRP never do anything opposing CPP. This is why people don't really heard of them and never hear they are in trouble because they done nothing.
HRP-Kem Sokha is already soldout! This is why so much for him to form HRP from the begining. Someone said HRP is CPP's puppet, they probably right. I feels the same way about HRP. I myself don't trust Kem Sokha. SRP please think more then twice if do anything with this man, Kem Sokha or HRP.
Yea.. 3 SRPs MP have lost thier parliamentary immunity. Mr. Rainsy lost his for defending our people and nation at the Viet's border.
Mr. Rainsy, SRP work so hard to help free him from jailed? YES!
Has Kem Sokha try to help SRP or to raised this concerns to the governemnt? NO!
So... should we trust this man? I DON'T!
Please do not speak of DIVIDE and SUBTRACT, please speak of MULTIPLY and ADD.
This simple math of MULTIPLY and ADD will prevail against all Yuons and Siams.
Those continue to play the game of DIVIDE/SUBTRACT among Khmer, you are not helping Khmer survival at all.
Please, please, and please UNITE THE DEMOCRAT CAMP.
To defeat the Yuons' influence in Cambodia is to defeat the KhmerCongs (CPPs) first.
If Khmer can unseat the CPPs from power, then the Vietcongs will lose its grip in Cambodia.

khmer angkor 3:10am.
You should talk to the CPP people. Those people worked to liquidate your poor Cambodia for yuon.
I admire Lok Sam Rainsy for recent fight against the CPPs and the Hanoi regime on border issue. I believe this is one of the priority as Cambodian political leader and opposition leader, however I seek Mr. Sam Rainsy to look into the formation of Democratic Alliance to go against the Vietcongs' control CPPs.
Mr. Sam Rainsy I believe you have the power to make a difference and trust in you to reach out to other democratic groups. Please work on the common grounds rather than on the differences that divide us.
I can't wait to see you as Prime Minister of Cambodia where Cambodia is a true independent country from all foreigners.
Khmer Canada.
I met Mr. Kem Sokha in the US before the 2008 Cambodian national election. He came here on a campain. I talked with him a bit, as a sugestion, about forming a democratic unity with other parties such as the SRP and other non-communist parties. The answer was "NO". He said that he was very optimistic about his party and asked me to wait and see. I suggested to him that joining with the SRP has a better chance to grab more seats in the National Assembly, seperating will result in self destruction and giving away more power to the ruling CPP.
I agree with one thing that there are many people who are willing to sacrifice for Cambodia for a better future, but among these people there are many who are stubborn and unwilling to listen to people.
There is no question that Mr. Sokha works hard but not work smart. It's not very difficult to understand that the CPP is very strong, and there is a need to have a stronger force to win the election.
The Human Right Party is a very young party, and any move to go solo is impossible to win.
It is time for all non-communist political parties in Cambodia to think twice and unite if they want to do something better for Cambodia. Don't let the Cambodian people hopeless.
Where can we send money order to Kem Sokha?
3:34 AM
Send your money order to:
CPP, 203 Norodom Blvd, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
As of today, Kem Sokha and his Human Rights Party (HRP) HAVE NOT SAID A WORD to show their solidarity toward the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) while the latter is engaged in a fierce battle against the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) in the defense of Cambodia's border against aggression by Vietnam. Hun Sen is helping (paying) Kem Sokha to divide the SRP provided the HRP never attack the CPP on the border issue with Vietnam. Kem Sokha is a puppet of Hun Sen who is himself a puppet of Vietnam. Everything is clear now.
In response to 3:10am, you have good thoughts. We all need to be united.
But Kem Sokha is Hun Sen's puppet. How do I know that? Remember while Sokha was in jail he communicated with Hun Sen via cell phone, and after he got out from jail he quickly formed a HRP right away. Why he did he form a new part when he already knew Cambodia is being divided, and at the cross road? I know every one likes the idea of being united. But if you knew this party was the puppet of puppet why would you want to unite with them?
By now Khmer should clearly see which party is really serving Khmer.
All Khmer shouldn't worry have this party join with that party.
We all need to unite with SRP. and stand with SRP. this is the only party that works for Khmer and stand against the evil CPP. on behalf of Khmer.
I strongly oppose the idea to unite with HRP, because it is just like committing suicide.
10:59AM,
I agree! That's what I been trying to say above. I do not trust Kem Sokha. Look at his bio with CHHIR. Very corrupted!
I also think SRP merging with HRP is like accepting viruses into their inner organs. Honestly SRP should keep HRP out. It is hard to cure cancer from inside.
However, for who keep wanting to see all opposition party merge, I also agree tha is a great point but you also must and need to know who they are first. Like Kem Sokha, he is a sold out to CPP. Should we all agree to merge then..? For me, I rather not. It make no sense to merge or coorperate with already known traitor. SRP please don't be fool!
Kem Sokha plans to be in the enlarged Sam Rainsy Party what Nhiek Bun Chhay is currently in Funcinpec: a puppet manipulated by Hun Sen and the Viets.
FYI. Kem Sokha formed his HRP after he lost his US$50,000 a year job with Human Rights Group. He is a very selfish Cambodian politician. It was also Hun Sen's poltical game for him to form the HRP to divide and conquer with Hun Sen style.
Kem Sokha get nothing to do, so he keep calling unity ? What kind of unity Kem Sokha want ? He should work with SRP not with Funcinpec tried to destroy SRP.
You must give justice to Kem Sokha. Since 1980s, he has worked to save Cambodia from Communist. He is a real hero of Cambodia. He is soft. He listens to people. His experience with Cambodian Human right Center earned him skill to work with poor people.
Sam Ransy is good but not good and strong enough to change Cambodia. He needs to build network with all non-communist parties like what Mr. Kem Sokha has called for.
To change Cambodia, there is only one way that non-communist force and movement need to unite and challenge CPP.
Kem Sokha and SRP need to alliance to challenge CPP.
The opportunistic Kem Sokha ruined other Khmer activists chance from ever getting assistance from USAID. He screwed up things and cooked the book very well for US endeavour on human rights for Cambodia.
Folks there are lot of games to divide Khmer by our neighbors. We are heading backward in term of political mentality. Most Khmers did not see far beyond meterialistict poisonous around them. Most countries were under Soviet Unions has gained their independent two decades ago. Khmers missed that golden opportunity to gain Kampuchea Krom back from Vietname because our leaders's vision back then were limitted. Yourn never let good opportunity to slide away at all. They always zooming their eye on Khmer Kandal in order to deter us from taking Kampuchea Krom back. From 1954-1970 they had full controled of Sihanouk. 1970-1975 Lon Nol's regime was corrupted but Lon Nol openly talked about how dangerous Vietnam to Khmer. At that time all Khmers were willing to sacrify their lives to protect our motherland. 1975-1979 Pol Pot's regime was brutally killing Khmers but Pol Pot's embition was to take Kampuchea Krom back at whatever cost. Unfortunately, Yourn knows Khmer's game better then we Khmers. So part of their strategies was started again by backing up the current regime.. YOU ALL know the rest of the stories...
Now CPP uses the same tactic to devide Khmer patriots under the pretext of multy parties system. My understanding is multy means more then one... if we started with two or three parties that were good enough. No need to have 40-50 parties to fullfil 1993 constitution. The more political parties we have to compete each other there is no way that Khmer loves democratic principle can win the election from CPP.
Talking about Mr. Kem Sokha I'm sure he understands this concept of multy parties system but he still boastly created HRP in 2008. We all see what has happened to his HRP? Now he and Mr. Mam Sonando are collectively working together demanding for Khmer to UNITE under the obscure strategies. Ex: It was proposed SRP to change name and to create another new party and its president will be selected by new members as suggested by Mr. Mom Sonando? What a joke is this proposal? Are they understand Cambodian politic under Viet? If Mr. Kem Sokha and Mr. Mom Sonando frankly are not working for the benefit of Yourn, they should not dream of UNITED Khmer under their obscure strategies. There are lot of ways they can help to salvage Cambodia from Yourn. What they are demanding right now is sort of give the blade to SRP and the handle to CPP.

Be it known: America was not found upon a Democracy system, rather, it was found upon a Republic--rule by law. I'm not all crack up trying to apply Democracy to Cambodia political system.
For what its worth, here is a Scripture verse from Psalm 133.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethern to dwell together in unity!
It is like a precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
Aaron was the first High Priest of Israel. Even though this Psalm was written in Israel context, we can have the same blessing descend upon us when we choose to lay down our pride. We need a national repentent and seek reconciliation of our past wrongs against one another so that our land can be heal and our hurts can be heal.
7:31AM, Well said. I agree! I do not trust Kem Sokha either. I think he is the cancer trying to infect the current largest opposition, SRP. Therefore, I can say he is CPP's puppet like someone mention above.
Kem Sokha, HRP is Hun Sen's tool. Can people see! Think about it. Why do Kem Sokha for his party so easy right after release from Hun Sen's jail. It is all conspiracy!
Don't listen to Kem Sokha! I think him and his HRP is already bought from the begining by CPP.
All of a sudden Mr. Kem Sokha came out of nowhere to enjoy his 5 minute spotlight.
I URGES ALL KHMER DEMOCRATIC PARTIES GROUP PLEASE UNITED ONLY ONE PARTY . SO WE CAN HAD A CHANCE TO WIN FROM THE CPP. IF YOUR KEEP DIVID PARTY.DON'T KEEP DREAMING THAT YOU GONNA WIN NEXT ELECTION.

You may not know who is Kem Sokha ?
His party HRP is nothing. He just want a position and destroy SRP.
My believe is HRP formed to break and weaken SRP.
Weird--This is like the only news I heard from HRP in months, and all they think about is party??? Shouldn't they worry about land grabbing, border problems
HIS FACE LOOK LIKE A SOLD-OUT.
10:35PM, Kem Sokha is already soldout! Too obvious for everyone to see except those poor villagers far far out in urban areas.
Whoever support HRP is an idiot! Light ears and so easy to convince which mean they all future potential sold out! "KMEAN ADOM KATHEAK KLOUN EANG CHBASS LARSS"
There is no need for SRP to worry about the call for a unity from Kem Sokha and HRP’s leadership. Kem Sokha has lost his moral authority to call for a unity because he cannot even unite his own members and his own party’s leaders. The calls for a unity or “the unity” have been done by Kem Sokha before and they have been done just to put SRP and Sam Rainsy on a defensive mode.
In reality the “the unity” cannot be done with any conditions attached. Sam Rainsy has previously stated well that the [political] unity can only happen in the cloud. In addition, the is no such thing as political unity, unless all parties merge and the merger is always at the expense of the smaller party(ies) which will be absorbed by the bigger and stronger one.
Kem Sokha and HRP’s leaders know this very well that it is impossible to unite unless HRP’s leaders are willing to sacrifice their organization and their own personal and political positions.
First, there is no room in SRP that will accommodate HRP’s leaders and its future candidates who are the main financial supporters of this party. Some of them have been investing heavily in the hope that they could be listed as the first candidate in their own choice of territory. Kem Sokha himself will not be given the first position as SRP’s candidate in Kampong Cham, for example. Knowing him as he had been, I doubt Kem Sokha will sacrifice his position; hence his calls for the unity are not a genuine and this last one was just a strategy for him to be in the political spotlight. It is the “event” created to make some noises in the political arena.
Many of us, especially the overseas Cambodian political supporters, think (like I used to) that the love of Cambodia is the top priority for all politicians, but in reality, professional politicians have been using the pain and suffering of the poor Cambodian to make their living and/or to become wealthier. Many can’t find a decent job in Cambodia, hence seeking to advance in politics to earn a position can be a ticket either to jump ship or to be shipped overseas.
Secondly, any conditions set forth by HRP will be rejected by SRP, as we see how SRP’s supporters have rationally been reacting to Kem Sokha’s statements. As a larger party, SRP has the right, and it is reasonable enough, to reject any conditions from a weak and dysfunctional organization that has many shortcomings in all areas, not to mention the lack of personal, professional and political integrity of most HRP’s top leaders.
Some leaders of HRP will definitely be political liabilities to SRP. The strong connection between HRP’s leaders, like Kem Sokha and others, to CPP leaders will give voters a lot of reasons to continue having doubt that HRP is a lackey of the CPP and/or Premier Hun Sen. During the 2008 campaign, when I have spent weeks throughout the country, voters had asked continuously if Kem Sokha was given the money by Premier Hun Sen to create HRP. There was no clear answer by Kem Sokha to reject that claim; however, I had learned from a few reliable sources that it was true and that Premier Hun Sen had said it in his own party’s meeting. I had been in a denial for quite some time until I finally disassociated by self from HRP.
The other issue is the lingering corruption charges that Kem Sokha had been less than clean during his presidency of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights—the charges that can be reactivated any time by Cambodian court. Seeing how HRP operated under his management--from the inception date of HRP until I left--I had little doubt that CCHR was led in the same management style (as HRP) which had led to serious charges by members of his own party who have left to join the CPP. The charges will surely come back and hunt him in the 2013 election and beyond. This will negatively impact SRP in the event that SRP accepts Kem Sokha and his team to join SRP.
Continues..
Thirdly (but not the last,) the political infrastructures of HRP are not credible nor genuine. Kem Sokha likes to exaggerate the numbers of HRP supporters to generate income from donors and to incite supporters that HRP is the biggest thing for Cambodia since sliced bread—the claim that can only be realized when one examine it with a microscope. Realistically speaking, the numbers of supporters and activists were nothing less than a fabricated numbers from those leaders of the so-called grassroots to all top levels. Unfortunately, many of local members and leaders were seasonal ones who had temporarily joined HRP to make a few extra dollars during a campaign season. At the end of the period, they would go back to be with whatever party that can feed them the most.
As for the top leaders of HRP, thank God that HRP didn’t win “all out” as Kem Sokha boldly and surely projected. Otherwise, Cambodia would be in serious trouble with a long chaotic period. Kem Sokha would never know what to do with the Cambodian government or how to run Cambodia. I am saying this not because I love the CPP to run Cambodia for any more moment, but from my point of view by looking at the level of experience (and education) of the top men who run HRP and its organization at that particular time. There is no reason for me to believe that HRP is now in any better shape than it was then; therefore SRP will have to seriously weigh up whether HRP is a plus or minus to SRP in a scenario of political unity between the two parties.
We like to think that it is a must for all politicians to unite against the ruling party; however, it is too good to be true if the unity does take place at all. When it does, it will only last for a couple “breathings of a cricket.”
It is unlikely that professional politicians will sacrifice their life for Cambodia; for most of them, they rather sacrifice Cambodia for their life. For this reason, I don’t think that Kem Sokha and his team will genuinely or unconditionally join SRP for the sake of Cambodia’s interest. Many will probably seek their refuge with the CPP instead. The best thing for SRP’s leaders to do is to tighten and strengthen its organization from within and for Sam Rainsy and other leaders to make fewer political mistakes. Perhaps, the best way to make fewer mistakes is to make major moves and most important decisions collectively. Those key people around Sam Rainsy should be encouraged to become part of the decision makers rather than being only the "Yes Men”.
Thank you for reading and have a happy New Year.
