PHNOM PENH — The Viet Nam Rubber Group will invest US$55 million in growing another 20,000ha of rubber trees in five Cambodian provinces this year, said its Phnom Penh chief representative Leng Rithy.
The investment is part of the group's target of 100,000ha of rubber trees in Cambodia by 2012.
The group will grow the crop on 8,900ha of land in Kampong Thom, 7,500ha in Kratie, 1,500ha in Ratanakiri, 1,100ha in Stung Treng and 1,000ha in Preah Vihear.
Rithy said the plantations were expected to begin producing by 2017 with a total output of 150,000 tonnes increasing to 250,000 tonnes by 2020.
Cambodian Rubber Association president Mork Kim Hong said the association would boost Cambodia's economy and generate more jobs.
By the end of last year, Cambodia had 123,000ha of rubber trees, 50,000ha of which were yielding 50,000 tonnes of dry latex for export.

Oh please! Too many rubber plantations already to the point that Cambodia should have their own rubber manufacturing company for tires, latex, and plastic by now!
Why not invest in high technology in turning these rubber into consumer products?
while French colonized Cambodia French also ordered Cambodia to plan rubber plants and other resources for them, yuons did the same now. It's only a divert colonized exploitation from yuons on Cambodians. Now the prix of plastic increase that why yuons ordered cpp to produce rubber for them. And not only rubbers that concerned by but also transformable resources as well like rice,fish, cotton, etc

I believe the yuons have good intention for the cambodian people. If we take a way the jealousy, and look at the benefit of rubber production in our country and what it would do for our people then we can appreciate the reason behind what youn is doing. It is our government who needed to help our people. But since the government is so corrupted, it is up to the people to take matter into their own hands. It does not do any good to just cry and scream. to accomplish anything in life and to make a change is to do it yourself. If you are compelled by what you hear and see is going on to our people and country then rally a group and go and creat a job for the people. Build a business of Rubber or what ever the resources that is there. No doubt our country is rich in all the resources in the world. We can be the next richest country, but because the lack of education from our people and poor government guidance, some one have to take a lead and utilize the resources. SO we can not just sit and blame. Be proactive. it is more productive this way. I wish all cambodian citizens the best of health and longivity. I know one day some one will be compelled enough by this situation to rally up a group of younger generation to renew our country. Until then, do what you can to support and participate in what ever is necessary to help the children of our country.
12:29 AM while a colonizer imposed its colonized country to product first resources necessary for its development, it not call development, good intention or decent trade but an divert criminal act of robbery. It nothing jealousy but a crime. When while yuons have good intention to Cambodians beside colonization, plan the killing, the horrors against Khmer people to rob their land and natural resources? All yuons good intention and kindles bring genocide and mass killing against Khmer.

the problem is so simple to solve. just burn the rubber fields. throw a bunch of fires. let see what else the viet wants to invest in cambodia. khmer pple should understand this, the benefit of it is not khmer pple, but viet and hunsen bank account. every body must wake up and strugling for democracy.
