Thailand undaunted over Hun Sen's planned border visit: Suthep

BANGKOK, Feb 26 (TNA) - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban on Friday downplayed concerns over the planned weekend visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to Cambodian troops near the Thai border, saying security measures along the border have been well-prepared.

Mr Suthep, who oversees national security, commented following news reports of Cambodian English-language newspaper the Phnom Penh Post that Mr Hun Sen will visit his troops near the Thai border in Battambang province on Saturday, while soldiers in Kampong Chhnang province will also conduct military exercises and will test launch BM-21 rockets on March 5.

The deputy Thai premier said it is normal for Mr Hun Sen to travel wherever he wants, but the Thai government has already put security measures in place along the Thai-Cambodian border. He suggested there was no need for anything in addition.

"I don't believe that the arms test will threaten Thailand's security," Mr Suthep said. "The Thai army stands ready to protect our national sovereignty."

Mr Hun Sen was earlier quoted as telling a Phnom Penh newspaper that the rocket tests are aimed to strengthen the abilities of the country's military. Though the rockets are capable of travelling 40 km, troops would normally fire them at less than half the distance.

We are not flexing our muscles – this is work to strengthen the abilities of the military in national defence,” Mr Hun Sen said.

The Cambodian leader, who earlier described Mr Thaksin as his true friend, appointing him adviser to the Cambodian government, however dismissed accusations that his trip is linked to Thailand's court verdict on the Bt76 billion (US$2.3 billion) frozen assets of his friend on Friday, saying this weekend's planned visit is a "normal" visit to the soldiers--do not try to link the problems in Bangkok on February 26 to my visit on February 27.”

Early this month, the Cambodian premier visited his troops stationed near the Thai border and the ancient Preah Vihear temple, claiming that the visit is aimed at boosting the spirit of the Cambodian troops.

But he was denied entry by Thai authorities to the Ta Muen Thom ruins which located in Thailand's Surin province for safety concerns as supporters of anti-Thaksin movement People's Alliance for Democracy were rallying not far from the renowned ruins.

Off cause they are undaunted because they have 86 millions plus and what about us? we have only 14 millions! unless we have a few nuclear bombs to protect our nation with, that would be OK. So, if khmer gov't becoming smarter, this is an area where they need to focus at, like you know have some sort of connection with all the supper power nations like North Korea, Iran, Indian, USSR, USA and China etc. Khmer love Khmer

It appeared Mr. Hun Sen is very provocative. It is very dangerous for Cambodia to fight a war with Thailand.

It is not worth for Khmer to die. it is a personal war between Hun Sen and Abbshit. Hun Sen is trying to help his long life friend - Thanksin. They both want to do business together. Hun Sen clearly said that he did not have any problem with Thai people only with Abbsit.

We need peace. We need good border cooperation with all neighboring countries. We have enough war. We need leaders who are smart and use his wisdom to fight a war not weapon. Remember who we are.

I do not mean to be afraid of Thailand but we do not need to be provocative, inviting war. Our people need food not weapon.

^ go tell the other side to stop invading and I guarantee you that there will be no war. I don't think Hun Sen wants war at all! But protect the contry is a must.

A Commander in Chief visits his troops, how provocative is that? The US President/Commander in Chief pays visits in the fields all the times. Cambodia for sure doesn't want war. She had enough wars and dying. But war is threatening to come to Cambodia's door steps from the west. She has to stand up and defends herself.

Hi, this is a religious nut... Yes, eat nuts, it's good for your brain so you can think in a different frame of mindset.

Let me shift your thinking into a different place in the world, mainly the Middle East:

Israel, being the very Epic Center of the world and the Islamic nations around her. The world will be shape by what will take place in the Middle East, not what will happen between Thai and Cambodia.

The world revolves around the Middle East--so pay attention to it--what will happen there will effect everyone else around the world.

This is why I posted scripture verses for Khmer to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Why? Because Israel is where the throne of justice will be establish to bring peace into the world. Israel will be the Head of Nations among all the many nations on the earth.

The counsel of the God of Israel shall stand. He is the true and living God a midst of the world religions out there.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of heaven, the God of Israel.

It is a sad state of affairs when leaders fail to work on behalf of the people. In the US, our representatives are controlled by the corporations. In a third world country, the representatives are controlled by corruption, greed and power. The kids and the younger generation are the future. If one does not have an opportunity for education and employment oppportunities, how can the people of nation progress. $500 million disappearing every year is a ridiculous amount of money that can be utilize to help the country. Now, Mr. Xen is asking for business to help fund the military. (Right) The majority of the people in Cambodia are worried about surviving. Therefore, politics are not on their mind. (sic). The status quo will remain until power returns to the people. I don't see this happening in the near future. In the West, we view the PM in the same light as Sadam, Fidel, Lil Kim up in Korea, Imanutjob in Iran......

Here are some adage to go by:

What goes around comes around!
You reap what you sowe!
Karma is a bitch!

Peace....

Xen’s announcement of visiting the border this time is not to protect Cambodia but to boast his image to those few ignorant followers in Cambodia and in this blog. He is trying to save his image from the last failure of attempting visit to the border temple. If Xen really want to protect Cambodia territory, he should come out, and publicly make apology to Sam Rainsy who has the gut to point out those illegal posts inside Cambodia near the Cam and Viet border. Sam Rainsy is one of many true Cambodian.

No one has the right to judge but have the right to have an opinions because everyone is differet, it is not like a one side fit all things, accept the law where it can be for equal protection. Life is too short if we don' t work together as a team, we will lose it all. I would like to request to khmer gov't to re-call all intellectual people to come to the table and discuss about how to work together as a team immediately. Do not show any sign of negative feeling toward one another but more toward unity. We can not afford to let outsiders to have a chance of enjoying the benefit of our weaknesses. We must increase in skilled migrant people as many as we can because they are the foundation to rebuild our nation and country. These are the rule in which it can be very successful "love, compassion, respect and cooperation" Aust
