February has been a busy but successful month for WWF’s enforcement team in Mondulkiri’s Eastern Plains Landscape. After a weekend of day- and night-patrols, members of the mobile team – a flexible enforcement unit working throughout the whole province – had just arrived at the office when an informant called them about wild meat for sale at the market in Sen Monorom, the province’s capital. Mr Tan Seron, Ranger with the Cambodian government’s Forestry Administration, quickly mobilised his team members to head for the market, where they confiscated 6kg of wild boar meat (Sus scrofa).
This success follows several crackdowns on illegal logging in the beginning of the month when the patrolling teams of Namram and Trapeag Thmear in Mondulkiri Protected Forest confiscated seven chain saws from four villages in the protected area.
“Cutting trees inside the protected area is a crime under the Forestry Law of Cambodia, and we issued warning letters to the chainsaw owners,” said Mr Keo Sopheak, Manager of Mondulkiri Protected Forest. This is part of the legal procedure, where first-time offenders face non-jurisdictional punishment and are given warning letters to scare them from repeating their offence. Criminals caught for the second time risk serious penalties of jail and/or fines.
Besides the chainsaws, rangers also confiscated large amounts of rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchiensis, locally known as Keinung). This luxury wood can fetch up to several thousand US$ per cubic metre on international markets – prices that unfortunately continue to motivate illegal loggers in the area.
The recent confiscations reflect the effective effort of the enforcement team in Mondulkiri Protected Forest. At the same time, they also demonstrate an increase in illegal activities that puts pressure on one of the last remaining dry forest habitats for tiger in Cambodia.
“Our team is working hard but we need to take more action against illegal activities. We have started vehicle checks at different points around the protected areas to monitor trade routes”, Mr Sopheak said. “We are also expanding our informant network. This will surely help us in curbing illegal wild meat trade in the area.”
Illegal logging as well as selling and buying of wild meat are punishable offences and can be charged under the Forestry Law of Cambodia. If you see or hear of any such misdoings, contact WWF’s Wildlife Crime Hotline Number at 012404143. It will be a small step for you but a large step for the animal kingdom.

Under the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime, no criminals that has been committed crimes against journalists, political opponents, leaders of the Free Trade Union, innocent men, women and children have ever been brought to justice.
cpp show only little delinquents, little traffic of local people but never arrest big traffics run by its criminal high officers for yuon needs,
Most virgin Cambodian and Laos forests are almost desert, cut by yuons and other few countries as well.
culture of evil
i think it is ok to cut down trees for use, and hunt wild animals for food, etc... the only problem is that people forgot to replant the trees they cut down and over hunting of the animals. however, if there are law to have open hunting season and control cutting down of trees and so on, then, it wouldn't be much of a problem as cambodia is so bless with abundant natural resources, etc... the way i see it, it's a problem of mismanagement. so, management is the key to conservation, sustainability, especially when it comes down to the environment, natural resources, ecology, etc, etc... yes, again, it's the management system that needs improvement, really! wake up people!
also, keep in mind people will do whatever, if they can get away with it. so, having a law and enforcement should look into educating the public to have a paradigm shift. still, it boils down to education and so on, really!
i read somewhere that the stupid KR leadership first settled in the eastern provinces of cambodia and admired the local indigenous tribes way of life or simple life style of hunting and gathering and little exposure to the modern world, etc... so, they apply this stone age life style to the whole cambodia, combined with weak or lawlessness, destroyed cambodia altogether, then. anyway, stone age life style is good for mankind and the entire world only and only if the entire world is going that direction, however, if cambodia decided to head that direction by ourselves, it's not going to work, really! that's why in the future, if we plan to do or lead our country to somewhere, make sure we are knowledgeable about the entire world and what's going on in the world as well. don't try to do or go in the opposite direction by ourselves! that's what the stupid KR did that was so destructive to cambodia and cost millions of lives due to their ultra-backward vision. perhaps, they were thinking it would work for cambodia and they failed to understand that the world doesn't work that way. let this be a lesson for all of mankind. in future, always consult with one another before plunging into an experimental state of mind like the stupid KR did to cambodia. look, at the dust settled, they all failed! see, a good lesson for all! live and learned, ok!
Poor Khmers,
you don't cut tree,
you don't kill wild animals..
Few animals, you could be jailed..
How many trees, Mong Rithy had cut before he could grow thousands of hectares of palm trees ?
Ho many millions of dollar came from those trees selling ?

The problem is not only about few wood cut for use, or few animal hunting to fill stomach but more big criminal traffics by the government officers to the demand of yuons.
cpp interdicts Khmer people to cut few wood for cooking or for their daily use if not they will send Khmer people to jail but let yuons cut millions tons of wood for yuon industrial exploitation. Currently Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries ordered police to arrest Khmer people who fished in lakes and round Tunle sap, some sent to jail, tons of their material confiscated are all born. I really feel sorry for these poor people because this is the only thing they can yet do to nourish their poor kids and family. Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries accused Khmer people of illegal fisheries while yuons can freely fish and exploit Tunle sap and other Khmer water. You know why because the current ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is controlled by kantop ass chan sarun
I dont know if you people can understand the dangerous extension of yuon power and colonization in Cambodia. It is the real purpose of yuon colonization in Cambodia; robe, extort land, resources from Khmer people to feed yuon needs.
2:43 AM, you are Yuon, you even don't write Khmer, you want to say TMIL and you wrongly write.
Us, we are VONGVENG BEUNG because in that BEUNG there are too many Yuons. We are not able to serve Yuons like you.We prefer to die than being Yuon dogs like you and your friends.

Gen. Chea Mon's son-Chea Sophal was in illegally logging business with Vietnamese, he has lured all poor Khmer people along the border to go up and fell-down tree for him, i urged PM Hun Sen to get rid off Gen. Chea Mon by resign him from his current position immediately!! we all knew who behind the illegally logging business in Seim Reap, Preah Vihear, Trapeang prasat, Anlong Veang area...
Deum Ampil-staff
That's why those khmer people were shot and burned alive...because of this son of a bitch cause all of the problems all along, i think there's more crooked and corrupted military commanders out there still doing these shit!! somebody pay a hitman and kill this punkass in 24 hours...please! fucken asshole!
hi deum ampil staff,
you can collect documents and write a report to denounce such wild traffic against camboian interest
u can post here online or elsewhere to inform people
thanks a huge
The thing is they let the poor borrow the money half first, then people have no choice, they have to go and chop down the tree...even-though, they knew it's life and death a head...that's very cruelt technique from that son of a bich!
that's very cruelty technique..
That is the result of government behavior.
When a country is run by band of bandits, no one will respect law.
How can you teach thieves to stop to steal, lie, cheat..
you can teach them in prison, you know! they need hard labor and reeducation camp for them to change their bad behavior!
once you committed crime, all of your rights in society are out of the window, maybe except basic right to food, shelter and clothing, perhaps! hey, we all have to learn somehow!
