Police and military police raids in the last few days have found thousands of cubic metres of illegal timbers stockpiled in warehouses across the country, especially in Siem Reap province, reports Radio Free Asia.
In raids in Siem Reap town on 24th March, the police had found 100 cubic metres of timbers in warehouses belonging to Oknha Sok Kong (pictured), chairman of Sokimex Petroleum and one of Cambodia's richest men, 100 cubic metres of illegal timbers belonging to Senator Lao Meng Khin, chairman of Shukaku company and husband of Yeay Phu who is the chairwoman of Pheapimex.
During other raids on 25th March, police had found 10 cubic metres of timbers belonging to Mr. Ko Sum Saroeuth, Secretary of State of Ministry of Tourism, and in another raid on Friday 26th in Siem Reap, police had found hundreds of cubic metres of timbers belonging to Oknha Ang Try, owner of Tiger Beer and in a separate incident, Oknha Te Taing Por, owner of a development site near Pochentong Airport, was sued by Mrs. Doeur Sokhon for defrauding her by refusing to pay for the orders of timbers from her company that he used for the developments of his site near Pochentong Airport, which could be illegal timbers.
Sok Kong is a very powerful businessman and a good friend of Prime Minister Hun Sen and Deputy PM Sok An who had been awarded concessions to develop Bokor Mountain Resort and to manage the entrance fees to visit Angkor Wat and other temples in Siem Reap town.
Radio Free Asia reports that Sok Kong's case had reached Siem Reap Magistrate Court. However, Sok Kong claimed that the timbers are for the construction of his Bokor Resort Hotel. Mr. Ty Sovin Thal, the court prosecutor, said he had received the reports of the raids on Sok Kong's warehouses forwarded to him by officials from the Forestry Department, but he had not yet conducted the investigations.
Mr. Nhim Seila, Deputy Commander of Siem Reap Military Police, said Sok Kong had permits to log and to own those timbers to use in the construction of hotels at his Bokor Mountain Resort in Kamport province.
Prime Minister Hun Sen called illegal loggers "traitors" and has resolutely declared during a cabinet meeting on Friday 26th March that his government will pursue illegal loggers to the end, no matter who they are and what positions they hold.

Thank you for the fine effort of national police in seizing these timber that somehow ended up at their stockpiles.
There are more warehouses of these exortic timers belonged to many army generals and associates,custom elites, along Prek Liep depots.
These only small remaining for the hefty prices,after so much sold to Thailand where high ranking army officers responsible for those, and to Vietnam under the black trade of oknhas and the powerfuls.
Ater all these ended up in chinese markets.
For instance,Ke Kim Yan alone owns forest and lands worth 4.7billions,now pushing to sell for merely haft price to the investers.There are thousand of hectares belonged to ministers and armies and so called fearful companies that untouchable.
Once again,this crackdown is a step of cleaning up corruption.

to make Mr. Hun Sen accountable for his words and prevent him from reneging we Cambodians must ask Hun Sen publicly if this statement about illegal loggers apply to his friends or not. Whether he practice double standards, whether he is a man of his words, a honest president or a liar before the country.
When people dare ask officials to be accountable for their language and expose them for the fraud they are, they will have only one choice - to stay true to their words or to publicly hang themselves on their own words.
This is the only way to put a cap on corruption.
No force is strong enough to stop corruption, not law or police, only the power of reputations.

All the time,his vice PMs anwser to all inquiries,and to secure for their lack of knowledges and protect their corruption involving selling public properties for their benefits and their master,the number of CPP are available for raising hands.

I urged cambodian government to confiscate all the money, propterties that these crooked had made from illegally logging business...Those poor people that shot and killed, burned alive by Thais soldiers, they died because of these crooked people used them to go up and fell down the Tree for them..!! they must do something to help those victims family...

Such crackdowns should have already done when the trees are in the jungle. This shows very incompetent leaders. Real leader must be proactive - a problem hunter, not always a problem solver.
