Sam Rainsy: "Don't always take what Hun Sen says for granted. He is not eternal."

The following are answers by opposition leader Sam Rainsy to questions asked by Julia Wallace of the Cambodia Daily:
Dear Mr. Rainsy,

I am working today on a follow-up story on the new lawsuit against you laid by the government. I have a few questions that I would very much appreciate your perspective on.

First of all, given that the possible sentence on these new charges is 18 years, and that the government has said several times this week that you will not be able to return to the country in time for the next national elections, what are your political plans for the near future? Will you be able to continue your political work outside of Cambodia? Will you attempt to obtain a pardon and return here? Is there any chance you would return to be jailed? Do you see any way of being back for the next elections?

And along the same lines, where do you see the SRP going in the next few years? Will it be difficult for the party to keep succeeding when its eponymous leader is out of the country indefinitely? In July, you said that you hoped to switch tacks and make the SRP less confrontational and more focused on quietly pushing through its legislative goals. But the past few months have been filled with protests and legal battles for you. Have you given up on that? What do you hope the SRP's role in Cambodian politics will be over the next few years, and what will be the most constructive way to engage the CPP as you move forward?

Best regards,
Julia

--------
Dear Julia Wallace,

You asked the wrong questions.

Hun Sen is not God. All he says or "predicts" will not necessarily materialize.

Why not ask different questions such as:
  • What if all the documents I have exposed prove to be genuine and accurate?
  • Will those who have groundlessly accused me of wrongdoings will have to go to jail or step down from their current positions?
  • What could be the political implications of the truth when fully exposed.
Don't always take what Hun Sen says for granted. He is not eternal.

I believe that the truth will prevail, and with it, justice.

Sincerely,

Sam Rainsy

Sam Rainsy, are you stupid or what!?
The journalist just asking you question and you are mocking her! Why don't you just answer her question sincerely and politely!

Mr. Rainsy, I know that you're angry and you have every right to be angry. I applaud your actions in Svey Reng for what you have done for our people. There is no way with today's technologies that this type of neanderthal method of border encroachment should be tolerated.
As a Khmer who still yearning to go back to my homeland to help the people, I wish that there is a way for them to reverse the ruling against you. We need you on the inside and work for the Khmer people and land. Without you, who do we have now? Kem Sokha? I dont think he have the same impact as you would have.
Mr. Rainsy, please find a way. Find a way to go back so that you may continue your work.
Unlike Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr., you are not dealing with a just systems as they were. These Khmer leaders now have the same mentality eerily similiar to the Khmer Rouge.
May I suggest an international court?

This is 1108 pm, an addendum. As far as Miss Julia Wallace question is concern, it show an utter disrespect for a person of your position. I havent the clue as to what country she is working in or what party she is affiliated with? In the Western society, this is the demeanor of the reporters. Even for President of the United States, they still display the same mentality.
Saying that, she did brought up a good point of changing the enviroment through the change of policies.
We cannot go back in time but we can definitely go forward. If we cannot find a compromise, then you will need to find a good offensive plan.

Frustration and angry. Understandable!!!
Couple clues that pinpoint SR is being increasingly shaken ground.
He is a honest defender of Cambodia but he got much less support in Cambodia and outside.
My pray to SR to be successful and comes back to Cambodia again.

People in Cambodia and world willing to sacrifice portion of Cambodia's border to more powerful Cambodia's neighbors (WEST and EAST) in the name of stability and development.

According to the military visited in the morning of Saturday 27 Feb. in Phlov Meas commune, Ratanak Mondul district, Battambang province, Sen stated that there is no opposition party can fall Sen's government. Proved that all Military, Police, PM, and Administrations are under his controlled and in his tighten hands.

11:59PM,
What Hun Xen said is just a form of threat. Sometime we just have to ignor his ignorants charactoristic and should seeks resolution to support those who fight for the cause of our people and nation; currently Mr. Sam Rainsy and SRP. Others opposition party like HRP is just barking for Hun Xen. We need to see more then just a few inches in from of us.

Hun Xen using all efforts to slave Youn. Everyone knows that his popularity has drawn countless negative images for him and his clans world-wide. Majority of people in Cambodia realized but they just afraid to step forward. It's matter of time they have to bite back when it reached the end point. Hun Xen downfall is comming very soon. Enough is enough!

To all,

There's nothing wrong asking questions. And there's no wrong questins asked?

In saying so, neither Julia nor Sam raingsy is wrong in this matter as they both are entitled to their own respective opinions, their constitutinally-own freedom of expression.

The only thing, which is the only difference, is Julia may have looked at the glass half-empty while Sam Raingsy at the same glass half-full.

It's just a matter of having seeing things differently, and basically having different opinions.

It's always appreciated, however, that arguemnts, debates, discussions or conversations of any kind, form or arena be done in a professional, respecful, decent, and honest manner since wars of words usually render more dangerous than a real battle of bullets. I would say Sam Raingsy wasn't wrong, though he should have toned his use of words more subtlely. And Julia should also have asked more ballanced quesions, digging into all-faceted issues at play instead of trying to shed some light on one-sided farce.

The majority of the people in Cambodia are the poors that is the bi-product of the Khmer Rouge. How can you reach to the masses, when a little bribery or threat from the CPP complete change their views? Most of the people do not know what it is like to be truly free and independent. Cambodia are increasingly becoming a nation of beggars and poverty. It is the best interest of the Yuons to keep the status quo of the masses in poverty. This is much easier to control than it would be if the masses become fully educated and independent. Sound like Khmer Rouge doesnt it?
There have to be violence during the 2013, unless the UN step in and take control of the election. The CPP is already planned to more of a landslide victory. I dont forsee Hun Sen will be in power then but someone else will take his position.

Granted Mr.Sam Rainsy points in answering Julia questions.

I wished he is more diplomatic and avoid personalized matter.

At this point Mr.Sam Rainsy gains sympathy from old foes or friends alike in his TKO move on Yuon encroachment.
Levelheaded and cool words may be best in countering misguided press elements.

How long will he continuously run as an experiment mouse? Until then he conscientiously realizes his own mistakes, therefore he will eventually win!

Please don't let them do it!!!

There is only one solution to make the international communities waking up is to have Mr Sam Ransy to call all elected members of opposition to flee out from Cambodia and declare emergency with UN office in New Yok.
Ina democracy system, there is alway a challenge of leadership. So, at present, international communities are very confused with situation of Cambodia because all other members of opposition are still working in Cambodia. Therefore, they expect a challenge of leadership so that all problem will go away.

Sam Rainsy is all about law and brain and HUN SEN is uneducated and violence PM.

They (CPP) can't beat Mr. Sam Rainsy in term of education.

I urge all those opposition to flee out the country and HUN SEN will be shitting in his pant.

All opposition must go to UN and boycott HUN SEN's administration to have Cambodia remove from UN under HUN SEN. As long HUN SEN is out we will demand to have the seat in UN again.

2:52AM and 3:25AM,
That sounds very interesting. All the opposition MPs leave the country and go to UN.

The question is would other MPs beside the 26 from SRP would join the boycott? In my opinion I think not. Most of the other opposition including HRP keep barking for CPP. Look at Kem Sokha and his HRP going around from vilages to villages in Cambodia and in United Sates barking behind Mr. Sam Rainsy and SRP. In public they keep whining to united but in action are totaly opposit.

Would you think make difference if just only SRP MPs leave...? You know we can't depend on other party. They all seems to be CPP barking puppy including some of the Human Rights Organization in Cambodia. They all under the name of NGO in front but from behind and side they really work for the interest of the current unethical ruling government. Corruption... corruption... From top to bottom.

I always agree with most of Mr. Sam Rainsy's actions or policies. However, I am very disappointing at what he said to a journalist here. It sounds like he is out of mind. He can't talk to a journalist like this. Due to his predicament, he needs the journalists to be on his side. If he is not careful and very careless like this, the media can blow it out of proportion. The Cambodia Daily is giving him a chance to put his side of the story across to the people, why he give a very childish answer like this? He is a politician of very high caliber, this sort of childish outburst and arrogance can make him look worse than Hun Sen. Julia's questions are very simple, they should be answered professionally. Mr. people have mocked Mr. Hun Sen for swearing and cursing Abhisit. Is Mr. Sam Rainsy following Hun Sen's path and become another rude and thuggish politician like Hun Sen?

It would be nice if we could have former premier Pen Sovann, former defense minister Ke Kim Yan, and former police chief Heng Peov join hands together with SRP.

I think it about time for Cambodian people to see the real picture of Hun Sen. Why they are still sleeping? Or why don't they see tha actual root of this matter? Why Hun Sen do this? Why Hun Sun only focus on the West not on the East? Why Hun Sen ignores the millions illegal Vietnameses in the country? Why only a small group benefit from the whole national resources? They knew that the justic system don't work, why they still accept it? On... and on... I believe that Khmer now should not be that stupid that cannot see these matters. Please again wake up!

Dear poster 4:03AM
Please have though about my suggestion. If all other members are still honeymoon with CPP or secretly have a dealth with CPP, then, regardless what ever Mr Sam Ransy done overseas are irrelevanted. Only elected representatives of Cambodian through National election can make the different in persuading international communities to listen to them. At present, UN has very little resource to care for small problem. They have big problems with Iraq, afganistan, Iran, North Korea, Haiti and now in Chili. Opposition parties must presente to them of very severe problems before they care about Cambodia. If Mr Sam Rainsy cannot rally all his opposition members and HRP members to flee Cambodia, then his political life will be finished and Cambodian will be also finished. We are all respecting Mr Sam Ransy. But in politic, only political skill can change the fortune of Cambodia. All of us are irrelevent for this problem as we are not legal representative ( National elected members )of Cambodia. And the problem is that each party, their elected member can challege for a new leader.

Gentlemen

Proposing questions back to Julia, is a suggestion for for her to look at the facts rather than believing in circumstantial evidences.
He may in fact loosing his ground as opposition leader that he has atttepted to change course of politics in Cambodia for many cambodians, but his ideas will remain and they will have impacts on social changes for the people.
Given the fact that journalist has Ethics and being impartial,he or she has a potential role in changing course for a society, simply not just HAVING to say anything to live.
Bear in mind that when our social mechanisms play their roles and fullfil their obligations from top down including our KING, life in cambodia will change a lot faster than you can imagine.
Key to that is our taxation system imperatively put in place, the ransome system has not been relevant decades and it can only enlarge social gap and corruption.
We all know for fact that we do not live in any clean society, but in cambodia corruption is quite blatant and systematic that will lead to WEAKER cambodia in her region.
Many have suggested international court that would appear to be personal challenge or more friction on cambodia political labels.
Indeed,as I already suggested before that our constitution is the agreed binding by the RGC and international countries support Peace Accord. Challenging UN to review its position and enforcing RGC,is a more peaceful mean. I believe that the agencies and theUN have enough evidences to change its course on cambodia, otherwise the UN is the blame for any plunging democracy and cambodia's social unrest.

Dear compatriots, please look into those social evidences and challenge the UN for better and economical strategies and more effective than ongoing processes.
Until we rock up the UN and countries involved to comply with their agreement, Cambodia only changes cosmetically.

In the West, politicians all have their press secretary or media advisor on how to deal with journalists. Any politicians who make a slight mistakes in actions or words will be sensationalized by the press. The press can give them hell. They can make you look like angel or a monster. That's why Mr. Sam Rainsy, whether he likes Julia's questions or not, have to answer them rationally and calmly. The way he answered here show that he is arrogant, doesn't care and out of mind. I support Rainsy's leadership and still do, but please take my advice of being humble and rational in your judgment. Julia and the Cambodia daily is giving you a voice, a chance to voice your opinion. Julia and journalists can ask any questions they want. If you don't like their questions, just answer the way you think is the best representation of your opinion or the truth. This is the way- not to mock her questions like you have done here.

What he did is just for himself, not for the party or the nation.

Now he's free from work, leaving hard works to other members, with the excuse that he would be jailed if he come back.

He is always away when the nation need all intelligent people united against common enemy. His tactic is no longer useful, his subordinates are well aware of that and they are very tired now. I can imagine that they would give in if Hun Sen had asked them. But Hun Sen needs these people to stay as opposition.

I think Sam Rangsy should quit politic and follow the step of Prince Ranarith.

Cheers! :-)

I don't know if all the blogers are in US or not but in the US if the Dem. party or Repub. party lost control they will change the leadership in hard beat. If you are in the leader position for the last 20+ years and keep losing position, fairly or unfairly you need to step down and let somebody else to be the leader if you care about the country. By keeping pointing fingure to other people for your failure is not progress. He might be right for all accounts but for the country sake the result is not there. People lose interest because of the party leader. It is the same as Funcinpect party which can't even find the real cambodia name for the party. I know there some people think that if they have foreign name it will make them look educated.
Average people are sick and tired of war and politic so all they care is peace as long as the country in peace they are happy.

Hey 7:40, You don't call people name like that.
Let look at reality here:
As you know that both side of the border use to be Cambodia land before and there was no line between them (border line). When you start to draw the line let say you draw +/- 200m all you do is either take land from cambodian on Cambodia side give it to cambodian on Viet side.It is the same as Thai border both side of the border are Kmere people. The bottom line is, it is doesn't matter much because both sides of the border are Kmere people any way. I am not suprise at all if the people who live the opposit of the Viet border (controversy post in Svayreang)are also Kmere people.

Regarding to election in Cambodia, as far as I am concern Hun Sen won the election by default because there is no better candidate to beat him. Hun Sen also know that Cambodian people love peace that the reason he doesn't want more K. Rouge leader go to trial. I never want the same leader stay in power too long either but what is the alternative ?????
People who has shellow mind would think whatever Hun Sen did was his ideas. But it is not true at all, he has surronded himself with educated advisor that why he stayed in power for so long.

What Hun Sen wants is just exclude all of his opponents from next election, he is pushing Cambodia into darkness, he bring back the dictatorship. Khmers should not accept this.

If khmer don't love khmer, no one in the world will. Please call upon unity in the name of respect and love. The more intellectual people we have the better because they are the foundation of re-building and re-developing for our nation and country. Don't let outsiders enjoy the benefit of our downfall. We must be smarter by now. Others will never want us to be better off than them, it is because it is part of our human existent, they like to compare and compete. So, we don't need outsiders to solve the problem for us, we can do it ourselves by being cooperated and work together as a team. It is very simple when we can avoid personal conflict and more toward what else need to be done?. Therefore please do the right thing for the "righteous will live forever and the wicked will be terminated" Proverbs. Aust

Mr. Sam Rainsy should answer the questions being asked by the journalist. I think those questions are what most Cambodian want to know.

I admire to the Cambodia Daily journalist, Julia Wallace for her questions to a convicted criminal Xam Rainxy. These questions are relevant to Xam Rainxy's future which most people want to know, but unfortunately, because of he is a coward and can't face the true, he used his dirty trick by lecturing the journalist on what question should ask him.

The following is the answers which Xam Rainxy doesn't want to tell to journalist and all Cambodian:

1. Xam Rainxy will not be able to return to the country in time for the next national elections, his political plans for the near future is, living in France as fugitive for the rest of his life or becomes Economic Adviser to current Thai PM Abhisit.

2. Will he be able to continue his political work outsite of Cambodia? Yes, he can.

3. Will he attempt to obtain a pardon and return back to Cambodia? Absolutely Yes, but PM Hun Sen refused, the Royal pardon is dead in the water.

4. Is there any chance Xam Rainxy would return to be jailed? Never happened. Stay in jail is the worst scenario that he must avoid no matter what people call him as a coward.

5. Does he see any way of being back for the next elections? Only PM Hun Sen can decide it.

6. Where does he see the SRP going in the next few years? It will be weaker and faces chaos...etc

7. Will it be difficult for the party to keep succeeding when its eponymous leader is out the country indefinitely? It's so obvious if we are talking about difficulty within the party. It seems SRP has head in France but its body inside Cambodia.

8. In July, he said that he hoped to switch tacks and make the SRP less confrontational and more focused on quietly pushing through its legislative goals. But the past few months have been filled with protests and legal battles for him. Has he given up on that? Absolutely. This is a classic example of Xam Rainxy habit-talk fast, show stunt and think later. He's always going a step too far (Road Runner).

9. What does he hope the SRP's role in Cambodian politics will be over the next few years, and what will be the most constructive way to engage the CPP as he moves forward? SRP will keep showing political stunts, invented the stories, hadred to Hun sen and the CPP and particular uses border issue as political game as much as SRP can.

As a politician Mr. Sam Rainsy has the right not answer any question especially when it is stupid question! As far as I am concerned Julia Wallace asked the wrong and irrelevance questions because all these questions did not deal with the Siem and the Youn naked aggression on Cambodian sovereignty and the question did not relate to how the Vietcong slave puppet government that continue to violate Cambodian constitution and laws and refused to honor the Paris Agreement that suppose to protect Cambodian sovereignty!

I think we can all agree that no one is more corrupt and ruthless than Hun Sen! Even hardcore (Blind) Hun Sen and CPP supporters can't deny that truth! Look at the track records of Hun Sen/CPP, every action that they have taken has only serve their own interest and the interest of their Vietcong boss!
With that said, all KHmer who have an ounce of brain cell, should support Mr. Sam Rainsy, who is working for the interest of KHmer people. To those of you who are being critical of his response to Julia Wallace, take the stick out of your ass! You obviously do not understand politics. Answering her out questions would be pointless, serves no purpose on the real matter at hand. These are questions that would only benefit CPP and Hun Sen if it were to be answered!
Mr. Rainsy is such an intellectual man, that he schooled this mediocre reporter, who was asking really low-order thinking questions! He did the right/smart thing and countered back with some high-order thinking that requires readers to be engaged in some cognitive processing that would involve real analysis, evaluation and synthesis!

Answering these groundless, irrelevant questions would be political suicide and the admittance of defeat! These questions were low balling techniques used by this mediocre reporter! Answering it would only serve the propaganda of Hun Sen and CPP! They want the country and the world to think that Mr. Rainsy's political career is over in Cambodia.
Mr. Rainsy is a rational and intellectual man...his thinking skills are above this reporter who barks as she is told, so he outsmarted her with some real questions that are relevant to the issue at hand!

I can't believe some of the comments that I am reading! No wonder our country is in trouble! Some people are just so blind to the truth! Khmer from Sydney is one of the biggest offenders! I'm starting to believe that you are Hun Sen in disguise, because who would really believe all that garbage you are spilling?!
To all the brainless folks who are still supporting Hun Sen and his band of thieves, do you need to be the farmer who's land is being stolen to believe that our land is being given away to the Yuon and Hun Sen and his clans are opening the door for them and jailing everyone who dares to stand in the way of their traitorous acts!
Mr. Sam Rainsy is a Khmer Patriot and hero and he is fighting for all KHmer people. If you can't see that or understand it, then you are unfortunately blind to the truth! No one can help you!
Someone who is obviously living under a rock, stated that "Mr. Rainsy's response to the reporter shows he is a true dictator and he wants control of Cambodia for himself"
Give me a break with your ridiculous reasoning! I wish I could slap some sense into you! Hun Sen is the biggest dictator ruling the country with an Vietcong fist! His band of kleptocracy are the ones controlling the country for their own personal gains!

Mr. Hun still has a chance to run away if he wanted. There is always a possible way. I'm totally disagreed that Hun unable to escape the Youns s claws. With all the money he has got, what do you think?

I agree, Hun Sen can certainly escape from the grasp of Yuon, but I think he loves all the power and all the personal gains from being in power! He is a traitor with no conscience and morality , he only has allegiance to his Yuon master!
He's been the number 1 Tea boy to Yuon since 1979!
